Iām not a fussy shopper or indeed one to kick up a fuss or complain but today and specifically whoever was closing the store on Tuesdays needs reevaluating his position at the store.
I have limited time off as I work nights in Chicago and I travel up to Evanston for a bit of peace. One of my major destinations is or shall I now say was Comix Revolution.
There is this very lovely and charismatic, caring and ridiculously helpful and professional young chap who works on Wednesdayās. Black hair and glasses and plays these bizarre āmashupsā of songs that make me roll my eyes simply because I am old. This young man has been such a lovely help for me and even looked into some obscure EC Comics for me. Whomever he is or what his name is heās a charmer.
Whoever the miserable oaf that was behind the counter tonight, sighing and banging stuff around the store was truly an utter misery to be in the presence of. We all have bad days but come on now. I only asked a question about TMNTās original collected stories. Was that really worth a one word reply and a condescend huff and grumble as I worked my way around the store looking for new things to read?
Yes, I purchased a Hellboy omnibus to complete my collection but looking back I really shouldnāt have. I was tempted to walk back and ask for a refund based solely upon his appalling interaction with me when I was checking out at the register. One word grunts, fantastic glaring at me when I counted cash for my purchase, the passive aggressive recounting and flipping of the notes. Maybe I shouldnāt have asked him about Eastmanās original TMNT and glad I didnāt ask him anything else.
Iāll probably go back but probably not. It was such a nice little store but that hefferlump grumbling and groaning and glaring at me means Iāll skip and go to Graham Cracker or Chicago Comics instead.
Iām sure this will all fall upon deaf ears and he will be further entrenched in his false sense of victimization when Iāll simply spend my money elsewhere based purely upon him being a true misery to be in the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOne of my favorite comix shops anywhere. The staff has always been friendly, the store is stocked with so many great things from your Marvel/DC to indie, alternative, and local offerings. They also stock a nice collection of non-fiction that ranges from humor to political. Kids comics section has always been great and has gotten better the more kids graphic novels have come out.
It's obvious that the staff and owner are very knowledgable and know how to curate a store. The toys and posters are great (and just enough) and the manga room in the back is awesome. Overall, a well maintained, well-stocked store that looks and feels fun to one in with no pretension to speak of (which can be a problem in comix shops!). I'm happy this Evanston staple is still...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI wanted to rewrite my review again because of my recent visits here. Iāve been coming here more again and all the employees have become a lot friendlier! No issues browsing around the shop and I havenāt felt like I canāt peruse through some of the comics and manga before my purchase. The employees have even helped order a few comics for me that they didnāt have in stock.
Iām glad this comic book store has changed for the better since I live to close. Iāll continue popping in from time to time to pickup new comics and manga that Iām interested in and I think itās worth another shot to come back if youāve had poor experiences in the past with...
