My fiancé and I stayed at the Inn on the Sound for three magical days and nights in July 2012. Recommended by a friend of ours, it did not disappoint. First of all, the location is magnificent, situated right on the sound directly across from the beach. While I did not have an ocean-view room, many of the rooms appeared to have views directly onto the ocean - nothing is more relaxing or peaceful. Also, a little bonus, when you're looking towards the water, you see Martha's Vineyard in the distance.
Upon arrival, we were treated with the highest level of hospitality, kindness and generosity. Howard greeted us and gave us a brief tour of the Inn and showed us to our rooms. He was available during the length of our trip and helpful with recommendations for where to eat, what to do, and just to have a friendly chat. His wife, Jan, was just as wonderful - always a smile with which to greet you.
Our room, the Sippewisset, had a queen-sized bed, a beautiful armoire, a private bathroom (with an amazing tiled shower and wonderful BeeKind amenities), and charming, high-quality New England decor. I felt like I was in a photograph from an interior design magazine. Though we didn't have an ocean view, we had windows which allowed for plenty of sunlight, and if we wanted to see the ocean, we just went downstairs and sat on the amazing front terrace or went across the street to the beach.
The morning breakfast was unbelievable. My fiancé and I are both gluten-intolerant, something I mentioned in my reservation notes when I was booking the room a while back. This is something that in many places would be overlooked or misunderstood. The first morning we were at the Inn, however, as soon as Howard and Jan saw us come down the stairs and into the dining area, they mentioned they had seen our notes and stocked up on gluten-free items for us. In fact, they tailored the entire Inn's breakfast for us - we were treated to gluten-free french toast, and the next morning, a wonderful egg dish. I have never felt so welcome and cared for while on vacation. And a bonus - your bed gets made while you're at breakfast! Another note about the dining area - there is a small kitchen for guests which has a refrigerator stocked to the brim with bottles of water and various sodas / drinks. You can also put your personal items in there if you need something kept cold. Hot coffee and gourmet teas are always available, and there is always something to snack on (banana bread, homemade biscotti, fruit...).
During the days, we either went to the beach (there are beach chairs and umbrellas for guests to use, and a beach bag with towels waiting for your in your room), explored Main Street, or simply relaxed in our room / in the Inn / on the deck, reading from the vast array of magazine and newspapers Howard and Jan keep in stock (by the way, an assortment of the morning's newspapers is available near the dining area - a great way to relax and stay in touch with the world over a delicious breakfast!).
I noticed that throughout the day, our room would magically be cleaned, touched up, our towels continuously refreshed, our items organized. It was like a magical group of mice was keeping everything just right, just so.
If you're looking for a wonderfully relaxing, peaceful, astonishingly beautiful (and welcoming, hospitable, romantic...the list of positive adjectives goes on...) experience in Cape Cod, you must stay here. Even the ending was wonderful - as we were leaving, Jan offered us some snacks and drinks for the road.
Oh, and a bonus for me - I got engaged during my stay! The ambiance makes magic...
Read moreMy husband and I just stayed at the Inn On The Sound for the week for our babymoon and anniversary. We have been to several inns and this one BY FAR was the best. Jon, the owner, was quick to answer all questions on email before we arrived. Even during all of this Covid19 mess, we were reassured and felt very comfortable coming to the inn. Debbie, the innkeeper, was fantastic. Not only was she one of the sweetest people to talk to, she makes the most delicious food and always made us feel welcome and comfortable. She was always available to answer questions and we were so shocked to be surprised with chocolate covered strawberries outside of our door on the day we were leaving as well as a beautiful gift for our baby on the way. It was so unexpected and thoughtful and brought me to tears! This place really goes out of the way to make their guests feel welcome. The highlight of our trip was the beautiful, elaborate, and delicious breakfast every morning. The choices were incredible and it was such a treat to get to take our tray of breakfast up to our room to enjoy. I know this might not continue as an option and was only available due to the corona virus but it was a really special experience. The rooms are absolutely beautifully decorated and so serene. We didn't have a water view room, but even having one of the smaller rooms, we were absolutely thrilled. They did not miss a thing. From beach chairs to take to the beach each day, to special baked goods each afternoon, and soda and coffee always available, our needs were always met. The location is superb right on the water. The view is phenomenal. We can't say enough about the Inn On The Sound. It obviously is well managed, beautifully maintained, and they know just how to make each guest feel special. We will be recommending the inn to others and we definitely will be coming back one day after the craziness of the baby years once we welcome our second little one in a few months. Thank you to everyone who made our trip so memorable and complete. It meant the...
Read moreWhat a wonderful stay at the Inn on the Sound! We were looking for a calm, relaxing beach getaway. The location is perfect - right across from the private beach, and within 5-15 minutes of everything we did (fishing, other beaches, restaurants). The Inn itself is beautifully decorated, quiet, and had just about everything you could need. Beach chairs, towels, beach bag, umbrellas, hot cocoa, coffee, microwave, fridge, etc.
Breakfast each morning was fantastic, with tons of options to chose from: French toast, a wonderful vegetable/cheese quiche, Belgian waffles, with fresh fruit, bacon or sausage, and a tasty muffin/treat to go with. To top it off, you could eat your breakfast on the deck overlooking the water! Each afternoon, there were fresh treats available (cupcake, cookies). We were truly blown away with the quality of the food.Additionally, Debbie gave us a list of recommended restaurants for takeout and outdoor dining - this alleviated a lot of stress for us as we are not indoor dining yet. Everywhere we picked from the list was delicious.
As an ICU nurse, I was hesitant to travel during COVID. I was beyond impressed with the Inn's ample amounts of hand sanitizer, extra masks, and signage starting that masks must be worn inside at all times - we both felt very safe staying here during this time. We are SO thankful for our time at the Inn on the Sound, and look forward to going back...
