West Marine — Local services in Falmouth

Grew up as a kid loving west marine and marveling at the clever gadgets and supplies for my dad who kept a boat afloat. He was excited to come with me so I could fix a few odds and ends on My new(used) boat. I approached the staff with my repair needs who advised me to walk 10 feet to aisle 3. Aisle 3. Plumbing and Electrical. No 5A, 10A, 15A breakers. Only five marine rocket switches at $35/each. Very few hose-clamps (no simple worm-gear, only heavy duty and and even then- few sizes to choose from). Empty bins of through-hull fittings. Lanyards but no standard or Suzuki kill switches. The staff came over and asked if I had found what I needed… I simply waved my hand in front of the empty displays and he nodded slowly and said, “I know, not much there… it’s been a problem. We do get a delivery on Monday and it may have some of what you need.” Quietly we both listened to the dripping of Air conditioning condenser water slamming into buckets and trays behind me… hand-held garmins not powered. Do not order from West Marine over the internet let alone for store delivery. I ordered expensive matching dock lines 2 months ago, they are different lengths. One part of the order came in and the other still shows "In Transit to store." I'm not going to the store half an hour away to pick up half the order and I don't want one set of lines without the other matching ones. Any other store would say I'm sorry half of it didn't come in and automatically refund your money. Like Best Buy if you don't pick up in a few days they automatically put it on the shelf and refund your money. I have had to chat with West Marine HQ twice since they won't answer the phone, and they still have held my money and not...

I am a loyal west marine customer for over 40 years (E & B marine originally). Cassandra from the Falmouth store is admirably the best employee I have ever had the pleasure to do business with. I recently purchased a hypalon dinghy that Cassandra ordered for me in a minty box which other stores did not have in stock. Sounds crazy, but I always try to make all my purchases in Falmouth because it's such a pleasurable, hassle free, experience when dealing with Cassandra. I live in Duxbury.
