We recently stayed at the Birch building at Marriott StreamSide and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. To start, there was no stroller access at Douglas or along the path to the main building. For families with young kids, this was a major inconvenience. The building itself was also uncomfortably warm, as there is no air conditioning, which made summer nights especially difficult. Transportation was another big issue. Although a shuttle service is provided, if you're staying at Birch, there's a good chance you wonât even get a seat. The bus fills up at the main building (first stop). On top of that, several drivers were unprofessionalâopenly calling other drivers âstupidâ and refusing to turn on the air conditioning in the middle of summer. Housekeeping was nearly nonexistent. No regular room cleaning was provided, and when we requested fresh towels, we were told to wash them ourselves. We were eventually granted one cleaning during our longer stay, but even then, they did not change the sheets despite our request. Shockingly, about a week after checkout, we were hit with an unexpected $85 âcleaning feeââ we were told our longer stay included a free scheduled cleaning at check in (It was reimbursed after a phone call). The building itself had a strong, unpleasant chemical smell every time we walked in, which was off-putting. As for amenities, they were underwhelming at best. The kidsâ activity center only offered painting once a week and even if staff were just sitting around (literally 4 of them in the room chatting), they wouldnât let the kids participate outside that time. We also played bingo, but there were no prizesânot even a small token like a piece of candy! Overall, the experience felt more like staying at an outdated timeshare than a Marriott resort. Between the lack of basic services, poor staff attitude, and surprise fees, we would not recommend staying here. I gave two stars for the location. Do...
Read moreA mixed experience. We were there for ten days of skiing. Room overall was nice and roomy. We had our kids along and the two queens in the second bedroom were good. Service was a bit spotty. For instance we scheduled a cleaning as we were there for longer than ten days and they didnât show. After calling them they came the next day which was fine but less convenient as we had planned to be away when they cleaned. We also had microwave problems where it kicked the breaker. Maintenance came and reset the breaker and tested it for ten seconds. Soon after he left we tried it for longer and it popped it again. Called for maintenance to come back and no body showed up. The worst part was the bus service to the slopes. The drivers were good but they simply dont run enough buses or big enough buses often enough. When they came to pick up at the slopes at the end of the day you would see a rush of people to the bus. I had several times when I had to stand up for the ride back which is no fun in a swaying bus after a day of skiing. Vail is wonderful but I doubt we will...
Read moreFireplace was broken during entire stay. Multiple maintenance personnel tried to fix. When turning on for first time, entire room filled with smoke which later was identified as burned plastic from a faulty installation. The smell didnât go away for 2 days. Terrible draft through fireplace that made it difficult to keep room warm, so we hung towels across the opening. Terrible location, have to drive everywhere. No restaurant in hotel, closest restaurant is across the freeway not within walking distance. All of amenities like pool, spa, bbq, etc. are at the registration building which is a 10 minute walk uphill and up several flights of stairs making it impractical. Ceiling and walls are paper thin. You can hear every footstep above you and every conversation from the unit next to you. Also, do not send packages to hotel like I did. Unless you want to have an argument about whether the package was actually delivered or who lost it. Will never stay...
