Joy Sushi of West Vail off the frontage road was the shame of all sushi restaurants and or eatery. I decided to go Asian and suggested to my fiance' we should try Joy Sushi for two reasons. One, we've never been and two, it was close to our home (within walking distance). I consider myself to be quite of a foodie and having visited this 13th day of June, Sunday 2021, we headed off to dinner. I understand that during these times of covid that restaurants have made modifications to either their menu or modifications to how they operate, but Joy Sushi went overboard and totally changed how food was introduced altogether... First impression, no air conditioning and no fans, just doors propped open. We proceeded to take our seats and at first glance in the menu, everything was over priced! In comparison to other sushi restaurants in the area, Joy Sushi topped the charts on price points, too much for nothing. We started out with miso soup, traditionally offered as an appetizer and this is how things progressed. Before I elaborate on all things Joy Sushi, this is what was ordered, a sashimi platter (12 pieces of chef's choice $52), a sushi platter (12 pieces of chef's choice $52), miso soup ($8) and teriyaki chicken with rice (25), total bill $145... What a disgrace! Everything came out in plastic this plastic that, couldn't believe for the money being spent, disposable tupperware was used... 12 ounce warm bottled water came out as our beverage, no glass of any kind or ice was offered, miso soup was luke-warm, the varieties of meats chosen from the chef's menu came out room temperature, nothing was chilled. The presentation was so bad, it made McDonalds value meals the go to when looking for elegant and fine dining. What a joke! I had to ask for ice on a plate just to chill the meats before I could continue trying to enjoy something so disappointing. You know the Chinese and Japanese have always prided themselves on how well they mastered their craft and how they often boasted of this any chance they got, well, that was not of reflection of anything other than a group of people wanted to do the least amount and gain the most from it while their customers walked away with the biggest regret. Do not ever visit this establishment, do not get sick, tell your friends and family that these group of people are out to take advantage of you and take your money without remorse or thought. I'm ashamed to be mistaken for an Asian man if these people are representing me in the culinary world because I love to cook, I look forward and enjoy the experience of cultured foods and this by far takes the cake for embarrassment, shame and lack of everything that resembles discipline and obedience to mastering their craft in serving...
Read moreNot a great experience. We eat here often; we get 1-2 date nights a month and we chose Joy for this month, and it was a huge mistake. I order the same roll every time I eat here. This time they brough out a completely different roll and argued with me about it. I even had pictures of our dinner last time and time before with the correct roll. The waitress was very rude about it.
As we are eating, I hear the table beside us, same thing. They always order the same thing and were brought something different.
Sounds like the restaurant chef was not making the correct items or the waitress messed it up. Either way it was a waste of our December date night and a huge disappointment.
On top of that my husband wasn’t even done with his late bite and they were in such a hurry to take our plates, it was very rude. It was not even 6pm so it’s not like they were about to close. We are locals and unfortunately will not be going back in to eat. We will find another sushi place around Vail.
Never argue with a customer, especially one who has receipts naming the roll and photos of the roll from every order she has placed. They also nickel and dime for any extras like sauce and crunch on the rolls. I would rather pay more and be treated with respect. I know what I ordered and so did the table beside us. Word of mouth spreads quickly in a small town and I will not be recommended this...
Read morePositive: Bright and airy restaurant setting and the fish was fresh.
Negative: I have to give 1 star for overall experience due to the service.
We arrived at 7pm on a Monday, didn't get acknowledged until someone showed up after us 10 minutes later and someone asked them "how many" and we had to interrupt to say we were here 10 minutes ago waiting for a table. They said that they thought we were picking up food.
We placed our order at 7:20pm. It was 8pm when I had to vocally grab someone to check in our food. We finally got our first dish (4 nigiris) after that. And had to wait 15 more minutes for our 3 other rolls that we ordered.
All I heard around us were customers complaining: Their order wasn't correct, they didn't get part of their order, people coming in to pick up their orders that were supposed to be ready an HOUR ago, people coming BACK after a pick up saying they didn't get part of their order. I felt bad for them during our whole dinner.
Overall: The owners seem really greedy and want to reduce their labor expenses. I feel bad for the ONE table worker, and TWO sushi chefs responsible for the massive number of orders (at any one time, there were at least 6+ receipts sitting out on the table as their backlog of orders).
They need to hire more staff to support this place's popularity. For $10 for 2 nigiris (pricey for a mid level sushi place), they...
