We booked the Hampton Inn in Freeport, IL on our way to visit our in-laws because in the past we loved our Hilton experiences and I collect HiltonHonors Points. I was disappointed when I drove for 2 hours and I arrived to find the lobby was not air conditioned (it was during a major heat wave). Secondly, as soon as my family and I arrived to our room, the smell of cigarette smoke was extremely overwhelming (as a former smoker, the smell really turned me off). The air conditioning unit was set by a digital thermostat to 70 degrees upon entering. During the overnight hours, it had not "kicked in" at all. When we woke up in the morning, everyone was sweating and hot. We had to physically turn the thermostat down to 60 degrees to get it to "kick in". By then, we had all had a miserable nights sleep. The mattresses are not a very good quality (we had a 2 queen bed room) and the bedding reeked of nicotine. I turned the television off around midnight and had to immediately turn it back on to drown out the noise of traffic (we were on the 7th floor). Cars were revving their engines and peeling away at the stoplights. Not very sound proof windows. The final disappointment was the air conditioning unit’s filter was extremely filthy. I believe that contributed to the smell of the room. In the morning when my family and I went down for the breakfast, the lobby/dining area was extremely warm (temperatures outside were near 80 degrees at 8:30 am). The scrambled eggs tasted like they were made from powdered eggs. The scrambled eggs had ham and cheese mixed in but it only made them taste worse. All of the juices they offered tasted watered down. Other than the "make it yourself waffles", extremely thick oatmeal and the strange scrambled egg concoction, there were no other hot dishes offered. I should also mention that by 8:30 a.m. the food had already been extremely picked over. The pool only goes to 3 foot 5 inches deep MAXIMUM and there is no hot tub/whirlpool available at this location. After staying in several of the Hilton hotels and Hilton Garden Inns, this Hampton Inn location rated more like a "recently built Super 8". It did not have a "Hilton" feel to it at all.
Do not take the suite on the second floor (Room 201) on a weekend if you intend to get a good nights sleep and ESPECIALLY if you have small children. There is a nightclub directly below which you will music until the wee hours of the morning as if they are playing in the room right...
Read moreThey were very helpful for us while visiting our home town due to my father-in-laws passing away. There was little to no rooms available in town at all for the week we traveled to Freeport, IL from Florida. This was due to multiple events going on in the surrounding areas..such as Monroe Cheese Days, an Air Show, Car Show, the Pec Thing in Pecatonica, and other smaller events. The staff at the Hampton worked to accommodate us as best they could since we were grieving and travelling by car with our wheelchair bound sister and our toddler-aged nephew in tow. They were only able to provide a room for the 1st 3 days of our weeklong stay in Freeport, but they were great to us while we were there. And they tried very hard to get us into another room if a cancellation were to pop up before our final day with them. I wish I knew the blonde woman who helped us when we arrived. We got there in the middle of the night and she knew we would be late. She was very kind and understanding and helpful and she was the attendant front desk in the middle of the night for each night of our stay there and was always always kind and friendly and helpful. We have no complaints about our stay at the Hampton in Freeport other than the fact that our room was a double queen handicap accessible room with roll in shower and all the pictures we saw when reserving showed a microwave and our room didnt have one, which did turn out to be a bummer because we were trying to save money by not eating out for every single meal of our trip. But she did let us know that there was one downstairs that we could use any time we would like and also explained that if the hotel wasnt booked to complete capacity and we weren't the last to arrive for check-in she may have been able to find us one to use. And we were understanding of all of that because all hotels in town were completely booked with NO available rooms open at all! Our stay at the Hampton was hassle free and pretty smooth. Also, there was 2 parking lots and both had handicap accessible parking for us to...
Read moreThe rooms are clean and the employees were nice, and that is the ONLY reason for three stars. The breakfast was prompt (they even let us in 5 minutes early, seriously amazing employees here) It is INCREDIBLY loud from street traffic as well as other rude guests. There is no control over the fan in the air conditioner, it would have been nice to have the fan on to drown out the noise, we may have actually gotten sleep. As I write this, I have three hours before my alarm goes off and I am still awake due to the noise.
The shower head was disgusting and clogged so it sprayed in all sorts of weird directions, basically everywhere but where you need it. The towels are a bit skimpy.
The TV doesn't actually play channels, just the Hampton by Hilton channel. 🤣🤣
The beds were actually very comfortable, had it not sounded like a frat party in the middle of a war zone I would have had some amazing sleep.
Overall this was NOT what I expect from a Hampton Inn. I was very disappointed and would NOT recommend staying here.
There are park at your own risk signs at the lot entrances, so we did not feel confident in the safety of the lot.
The elevators are sketch. They have signs saying "watch your step." They should say, "have a nice trip, see...
