My family booked two rooms at Comfort Suites in Galveston for June 26-29, 2023. We have spent decades traveling around the country, staying in various hotels, and we’ve never experienced the discomfort provided by this hotel. When we first arrived at our room, my room key did not work. Fortunately, my father’s key did work…that day. We received another key from the front desk to replace mine, but it also failed to work. The following day, my father’s key no longer worked. And the third day, my sister’s key no longer worked for the room she and her children shared. I do not believe that the carpeted floor had been vacuumed. If so, it was poorly done. I stepped on crumbs in several places and found an M&M in one area. On top of that, the old carpet was covered in stains. My sister commented on the stained carpet in her room as well, and she found a used bandage in the stack of towels in her bathroom. The TV offered no children’s programming. One of the comforters had a hole about a foot in diameter, where the material had dry-rotted. Another comforter had yellow stains in several places. When we arrived, my sister and I both found numerous dark hairs on the white comforters and sheets. The outlets between the two beds were so loose that they barely held the prongs of the charger I plugged in. Two of the three nights, we had no hot water for showers, in addition to the fact that the water pressure was incredibly weak. Ironically, the pool water was uncomfortably hot. And the hot tub was unbearably hot. I hung two of the bath towels to indicate that I’d use them again, but housekeeping took them, along with all the dirty towels on the floor. That wouldn’t have been an issue, except that they did not replace them. When we returned to our room early afternoon, we had no towels. I called the front desk, and they told me that I could come get some, but they had no bath towels or hand towels, only wash cloths and floor mats. I asked what we were supposed to use to shower, and the lady at the front desk said, “I don’t know. Maybe, check with the housekeeper if there’s one on your floor.” I found a housekeeper on our floor, inquired about fresh towels, and she told me that she also didn’t have any. She asked for my room number and said that she would contact our housekeeper and have them bring towels to our room. Six hours later, we returned to the room again, and we still did not have towels. I went to the front desk, and they gave me three towels, along with two hand towels, and some washcloths. When I got back to my room, I made the mistake of putting one of the towels to my face and breathing deeply. It smelled sour, like someone’s sweat, like it hadn’t been washed. When I took it back to the front desk, the lady took it and failed to offer any kind of apology for my inconvenience, didn’t say “thank you,” or anything at all. Our last morning there, as I stood in my room, dressing, a male housekeeper opened the door without knocking before realizing the room was still occupied. The only comfort you’ll find at this hotel is...
Read moreAfter two requests, points still have not been awarded for this stay. I booked three rooms for this stay 8 months prior to our arrival and two of the rooms were okay, but only one of those rooms received points as well. When we checked in after 4PM on the day of arrival, the room we were given was not prepared, after opening the door, the bed had been stripped with the sheets in the floor, towels were on the floor, trash was tossed in the floor and the trash can was on the floor as if it had been tossed down in the middle of the room. I returned to the front desk to report this and was told there were no other king rooms available. But after mentioning I was a Choice member and made these reservations several months prior, the girl at the front desk (who was inappropriately dressed for front desk in ripped jeans and a t-shirt) called the manager and we were given another room, supposedly a suite(?) and we were told the manger would contact us in the morning, which she never did, and we still have not heard from anyone at this hotel.
As we entered this room, there was a big black beetle, still alive on the floor next to the bed. After dispatching the bug, we started to unpack and found no closet or even a clothes rod to hang clothes on, no drawers to place clothes in and an iron, but no ironing board. There was no luggage rack to place the suitcase on. This room had a hot tub in the room, but in the bathroom, which was very large, there were no towels or any place to put towels except on the hanger on the back of the door, which was not accessible from the tub. The shower curtain was flimsy like tissue paper and the shower head was plastic and had a very straight stream of water, if you tried to change the setting, it was more of a crisscross that shot water out of the tub in every direction. There was no "Do Not Disturb" sign for the room and the on/off button on the TV did not work, but the channel change and volume buttons did work. With all this, at least the bed was comfortable and the towels were nice. Our thoughts were that maybe the room was being updated and really was not ready for anyone to stay there, but this was never confirmed. One of the perks of this hotel was that it offered a small bar, which was not opened any of the time we were there and the only explanation given was that "we are doing something different there". However the bar was in full view and stocked, just missing a bar tender with no sign as to hours, etc. We have stayed at many Choice Hotels over the years and this particular hotel was certainly not one of the best experiences we have had. The location is fine, just off the Seawall, and the breakfast is adequate to start your morning. Since our group was only there two nights, and the other two rooms seemed to be ok (except for the shower curtain and shower heads) we did not let this incident ruin our stay...
Read moreDO NOT PUT YOURSELF THRU THE HELL THE STAFF WILL PUT YOU THRU. When we checked in I was never made aware they pre authorized a $223 charge on my card. So we use cash only, so since I booked on booking I had to use my son's credit card. The total was 1130, I put 1180 on his card. The staff tried charging the full 1130 and my card came back declined. We called the card company to find out about the pre charge. So I told the staff who walked away into an office to talk to the owner who reluctantly told her ho ahead and charge the remaining 907. BUT, they can't run a debit card so I had to get the cash off the card and pay by cash, which ends up adding a 250 security deposit to be returned when you leave. Day 2 the breakfast lady didn't show so big wig put out the very minimum breakfast items and the milk was sour and kept out of fridge. Day 3 I was told a family of 5 can only have 1 roll of tp, my cushion on our couch was fixed with safety pins and when of them stabbed my husband in the butt they laughed and assured him they would not keep our deposit and tried handing back the pinned cushion like we wanted ro get stabbed again. I called corporate and they told them to fix it correctly. Which was a bad move i guess because th staff went above and beyond to ruin our vacation from that point forward. Day 4 they were supposed to clean my room. On way out for Day I went to tell housekeeping I helped with trash and towels and she lmk I wasn't on the list.i went to front counter and assured the lady was wrong they would be cleaning my room. I came back 4 hrs later to a still dirty room. I asked them again and they apologized and got it done, without comforters. So we went down and asked for our comforters and was greeted with if we couldn't come at them politely they'd call the police and have us removed. I told them if that's how they were going to act over me asking the front desk for our blankets after they told us not to be asking the housekeepers for anything that I'd be in my room waiting. We waited for the cops for an hour in the mean time we called tge corporate complaint line and they moved us to the Quality Inn. As we went to leave my husband went to get the security deposit. Big Wig was very upset and in a questioning outburst to her coworker Predator that "they got their deposit?" My husband giggled and also let her know we called her bluff about calling the cops so corporate was relocating us to another hotel so we could enjoy 1 of our 4 night stays in Galveston. As we left Big Wig pulled up behind my car and was writing down my license plateim guessing, when she wouldn't move I put my car in reverse and gunned it and...
