We were staying at this hotel for one night because it was chosen as the place to stay for a wedding we were in.The bride and groom had set up(paid for) a shuttle service that was to take guest to and from the reception. I had called twice prior to staying, once to make the reservation months in advance and a second time to add another persons name to the room for checkin. Both time i asked if I needed to put a card on the room for holding and was told NO. Issue #1- When my significant other checked in the woman (SANDY) was extremely rude saying it was not under his name and that there was no card on the room so she should have given away his reservation.
Issue #2 - After the wedding had ended 10:45pm we attempted to get on the shuttle back to the hotel. Unfortunately it was full and not wanting to squeeze 6 extra people in the van the driver said to us, “I will be back for another pick up”. After 30 mins of waiting the driver had still not returned so we called the hotel. The woman (Amelia) who continued to put us on hold told us that the driver had already done 2 pick ups and had extended the time the contact stated to pick up guests. We told her regardless of the contact the drive said he would be back for us and knowing the Bride & Groom had paid until midnight for the shuttle we were frustrated.
Issue #3 - When we finally arrived back at the hotel by finding our own way back we went to the front desk. Amelia was extremely rude telling me since I did not sign the contract I clearly didn’t know the situation and why the driver didn’t return. We were clearly upset (but not yelling), asking for a refund or a comped room. She continue to deny us and said if we did not leave her lobby she would call the police. Since she claimed she could not help us with a refund we left our names and numbers for the manager to call us on Monday (8/10/2015).
Issue #4, #5 & #6- The Beds were extremely uncomfortable. Terrible mattresses that they tried to make better by putting a $50 mattress topper on them that slipped off. The air conditioner did not work. The pillows were about 2ftx2ft, I’m not sure who uses these small pillows other than children. The room was clean, I'll give it that.
It is now Wednesday 8/12/2015 and we have not heard from the manager. When we called Monday afternoon to speak with him (Mike Patel) we were told that he would not be back in office until Wednesday morning.
Needless to say we will never be returning to this disgrace of a Best Western and corporate will be...
Read moreContext: Only stayed once as of this review. Only stayed one night. I stayed for the Ren Faire in Hollister (20 min drive away).
-Decor: I like the wilderness lodge-type aesthetic. Very relaxing. -Nearby: Black Bear Diner right next door. Very nice. -Layout: Lots of parking, but the lobby and breakfast area are in a separate building from the rooms, which means you have to walk outside in the cold to get to breakfast. I'm not sure why the lobby has to be separate. I also dislike the halls. They're sheltered and look indoors, but the windows don't cover the entire hall, so it's more like a breezeway if that makes sense. Even in late October, it was very cold in the evenings. Unpleasant. -Room: Liked the room a lot. Microwave and fridge was nice. Not common to have either, let alone both, in a hotel room. Roomy and well-lit bathroom. Cozy bed and warm blankets. The AC/Heat worked well and warmed up the room nice and quick. The rooms have balconies, which is very nice. -Breakfast: Probably one of the best BW breakfasts I've had. Omelet station (premade omelets and some toppings to add), Yogurt station (packaged yogurt with a toppings bar), pancake maker, plenty of pastries and bread, juice, coffee, cereal, etc. The potatoes were really good. There was plenty of space to sit. -Pool: I didn't use it, but there were lots of people using it and the jacuzzi at most times, so I'm sure it was fine. It's outdoors, btw. It closes at 10 pm which I think is late. Kids were screaming outside right up until 10 pm on the dot when it closed. I like to sleep when I'm on vacation, and 10 pm just seems late and keeps people (at least one person, me) up. -Staff: I had little interaction, but they were very nice when I saw them.
TL;DR
Cozy room with lots of space and good amenities. Loved breakfast. Layout makes it cold and uncomfortable during cold season anywhere but your room. Love that Black Bear Diner is next door for quick and good meals. Pool closes too late, so it made my stay very noisy late at night. Staff is nice, but can't speak to their attentiveness or helpfulness. Nice aesthetic overall. I'd...
Read moreI couldn't believe the shabbiness of the room. This hotel room was very run-down. It was a time warp back to the olden days, in all ways except for the Keurig coffee machine, which generously had 4 K-cups but only 2 tiny sugars and 2 powdered creamer ONLY. (Four 4 K-cups??) The room was from 1990's, in smell and appearance, had not been thoroughly cleaned since 1990 either. The bed was like an airbed! The shower was that tub your grandma had in the 70's, just not modern, no room for 2 to tango, nowhere to put your soaps etc…I’m 5’2” and 120LB, it’s a very small bathroom. And no fan! It's 5 feet from the bed, so if you had to #2 everyone had to smell it OMG! Stains everywhere, sticky carpet, had to change socks constantly. The TV was NOT cellphone friendly, every other hotel I’ve stayed at, you connect your phone to Netflix and Amazon Prime, etc… but we got stuck listening Beverly Hills Cop 800 times because all the other channels were Spanish only, or had commercials! And the 'heater', OMG the heater! ONLY worked when it wanted and only 'heated' the side of the bed next to it, not the room.I had it to 90 and I was freezing all night. Be real in your advertising pictures, lower your prices AND step up your game Best Western Gilroy. I save money to be able to step out with my honey and it needs to be at or above my standards, not my nightmare. I had no money to get another place so we were stuck there. Your advertising pictures need to be real when advertising! Be real with customers!! Be HONEST about the shabby condition of these places. For $20-$30 more I have paid for nicer rooms, with non-sticky floors, a real bed, a modern heater, bigger bathroom, and a modern TV.
For customers, unless sub-par sticky smelly rooms for the same price as Marriott is ok with you,...
