Birrieria Coalcoman — Restaurant in Gilroy

Started with a michelada and it was exactly what you’d expect, good size brand name Mexican beer with the tajín rim and shrimp garnish. I also got the jamaica later in the meal and it was refreshing and fragrant but not too sweet. The birria itself (sampler platter) was excellent, the broth was rich and spiced well and you got a solid portion of meat. It was definitely on the heavier side but in a good way, like a special treat meal you get yourself after a long week. It was pricy but I think you get what you pay for, I did not notice any area where they were cutting corners and I think they’re doing all the right things.

There’s a lot of seating and it’s a good vibe. Well lit, stylish, and clean interior.

The service was a little slow but our waiter was friendly and knowledgable.

I’ll come more frequently if the other non-birria menu items are good. As for the birria itself, I’d definitely recommend it when wanting...

Birrieria Coalcoman is a fantastic new addition to Gilroy! From the moment I walked in, I loved the welcoming vibe and lively atmosphere. The space feels fresh and updated, while still holding onto the traditional warmth you’d expect from a family-run birria spot.

The food was outstanding, rich flavors, perfectly tender meat, and all the authentic touches that make birria so special. It immediately reminded me of the original restaurant in Castroville that I’ve always loved, but this location adds its own unique, modern twist that makes it stand out.

Service was friendly and attentive, and you can tell they take pride in what they’re serving. It’s rare to find a place that combines both authenticity and a fresh experience, but Birrieria Coalcoman does exactly that.

The Michelada's are a must...

This place is a great addition to Gilroy and quite honestly compliments, if not revives, Gilroy's 'Taco Trail'. I came here initially about two weeks ago, and I had such a great experience that I decided to bring my extended family from out of town over to try it out. One of our family members is a huge Birria fan and he was, as well as the rest of the family, left impressed as they all commented how good their dishes were.

I like to try out restaurants prior to inviting my family over as I want to be sure their experience will be a pleasant one. This one definitely...
