I've stayed at many hotels and Embassy Suites - this is by far the WORST Embassy Suites I've ever stayed at, AND one of the WORST hotel experiences I've had. I don't give too many bad ratings unless it's really warranted, and this is definitely one them. We stayed for 4 nights. 2 of the nights we were locked out of our room. Apparently the electric lock mechanism was not functioning properly and it would not detect the key card. I understand maintanence issues may happen from time to time, but this was ridiculous. We had got back to our room from spending a day at Universal studios, getting back to the hotel around 11pm. Kids and myself were pretty tired, so finding that our key card wasn't working was not cool. Went down to front desk and they sent the security guard up with me to check it out. His master key wouldn't work either. So down we went again to talk to front desk. They then sent us back up to the room again with a "booster" device, thinking the key card reader's batteries were dead. That didn't work either. Down we went again (mind you, I'm on the 8th floor and not close to the elevators, so it's a lot of walking). They then decided to call their on-call maintenance man, who was at home. Instead of putting us in another room, they made us wait in the front lobby on couches and chairs. My kids passed out in various spots where they could get comfortable in the lobby. What a shame to treat hotel guests like this. Maintenance guy finally showed up and had to literally beat on the door card reader mechanism for it to "reset". Then, hilariously, the front desk person and the maintenance guy tried to suggest that it may have been my fault for trying to open the door too soon after I touched the key card to the card reader! Seriously? Lol. I've only stayed in a few hundred hotels, that's the first time I've ever been told that, lol. I replied that I didn't think that was the case because when you touch the key card up to the reader you can hear the lock mechanism activate the tumbler, which I never heard at all. They ended up replacing the battery pack on the card reader after beating on it and prying the door open with a crowbar, lol. I asked them if they were sure this wouldn't happen again (thinking maybe I should ask to switch rooms, which again, they never even offered to do for me), and they said no way. We finally got into our room close to 2am in the morning. The next day we got up really late, obviously, and i went down to speak to the front desk. Alex was the front desk supervisor. He did not seem to concerned with the issue and kind of looked at me with a look like "ok, what else do you want me to do about it?" I explained my frystration very calmly, but frankly, and said what happened last night was not acceptable. He told me he would speak with the hotel general manager and see what they could do. He called me later and said, "Well, we'd like to give you free parking for 2 days." LOL. I said wow, thats it? 40 bucks for waiting to get into our room until 2 in the morning and ruining our day the next day? I ended up accepting and just viewing it as a loss I'd get over. Well, guess what? The very next night, the same thing happen. We spent our day at Universal studios again (not getting there till much later in the day because of the issues the night before), and got back late to the hotel after eating dinner, went up to our room, (tired again) .....key card not working AGAIN. This time I was pretty livid. My family was done too. I marched down to the front desk and told them the same thing was happening AGAIN. Guess what? They told us to hang out in the lobby, again!! So once again my family is laying across couches and chairs trying to sleep while the maintenance people are working on the door. They got it open a little quicker on this night, but at this point it really didn't matter. The way they treated us was horrible and the lack of concern or care to prevent this from happening again was not there. It felt as if we were being treated as second class citizens. I've now run out of...
Read moreSo we’ve been staying at this hotel since 2015, and honestly, I can’t not be a bit biased, but for the most part this how me and MY families experiences have been (our longest has been 2 and half months so trust me on this). So for almost 10 years we’ve absolutely loved this place, we started staying here because it was the closest place to my uncles house, but regardless of that, there is absolutely ever single fancy restaurant, fast food chain, park, basketball courts, clothing store etc. that you can imagine within a MAXIMUM of 30 minutes walking distance from the hotel, so in terms of location, it is perfect, jackpot. In terms of stay, I do have to admit my dad is a diamond member so we did get “benefits,”, however, funny enough, we have stayed in all the types, and the one looking towards the inside of the hotel is obviously the most…soulless, just because, one doesn’t get natural sunlight, however, it was still great, the beds and everything were the same quality as the corner suites, so I have no complaints there. Food, I cannot begin to express how great the chefs are, they load up your omelette and end your craving for a good 5 years, but jokes aside, they can make you anything you want, it’s always consistent, I never once had “anything bad” happen to my food, nor do I have any bad experiences, even during COVID, they tried to do the most that they could and maximized the amount of food that they give to each person, we’’ve never ordered anything for them to bring to our rooms, however, whenever we’ve ate at the “lobby restaurant” it’s been delicious, but since it’s a hotel, the prices are…you know. The gym and pool are both great, there’s even a jacuzzi so you know your expectations are gonna be met; the gym has a water dispenser, it’s always worked perfectly, the equipment works well too, so no complaints there. The happy hours are brilliant, every day (for the most part) there are different foods (the I think pita bread, and green something sauce is delicious), and every single bartender is super nice. If I want to talk about what is “bad,” the only real complaint is the fact that almost none of the housekeepers speak English, and not that it’s terrible, but at the very least one would expect them to be able to communicate very simple ideas without needing to play pantomime, so I wish they were taught very common sentences so it’d be beneficial for themselves (since it’s the “universal language” of the world so knowing it will only help them) and make a better experience for the guests. Most people are patient, and someone like me even knows Spanish, but in the unfortunate event of someone being in a hurry or not being very patient, it’d just be good to know the language. However, as stated, we’ve never had any problems communicating, other staff have also been super kind, especially the woman who’s always there at the breakfast area and writes down the room numbers (she wears glasses), unfortunately I can’t remember her name, and also the chef that’s fairly tall and darker skinned, always asks guests how they’re doing as is super polite. Ultimately, in MY personal opinion this is a great place to stay, both for business and vacation (especially in comparison to the Hilton in the street above), if one is here to visit the country there is all sorts pf tourist attractions around and public transport (is bad in LA in general, but at the very least) is acceptable here. Definitely would recommend.
P.S. fun fact, with this last stay at the hotel, my dad finally became a lifetime diamond...
