My husband and I stayed here for two days on Veteran's Day weekend. The owner is an ex-military wife, and all the customers that weekend were vets. We stayed in the Brook Bridge room and would gladly do so again.
The room is gorgeous and spacious, with an entryway with a desk and a door to the garden area, followed by the bedroom and bath. The bed was a king size and the mattress very comfortable. The bath had plenty of hot water. Though we brought our own toiletries, they had the usual things in the room (shampoo, conditioner, soap, cotton puffs, Q-tips), plus bath salt. There is a Keurig coffee maker in the room with supplies for coffee. If you want something special, bring some K-cups along.
The owner is congenial and makes you feel right at home…a real hostess. There are cookies and soda in the registration area, plus a microwave, a shared (among all the guests) mini fridge, and an electric kettle and teas. I brought some packets of hot chocolate and made it there in the morning.
The breakfast is excellent. Remember, it's a bed and breakfast, so the owner is making the same breakfast for everyone, save food-isms. We had a breakfast sandwich the first morning (poached eggs, cheese (Gouda, I believe, but I could be wrong), spinach leaves, tomato, roasted English muffins...served with fresh fruit and grilled pineapple. The fresh fruit was originally supposed to include something I was allergic to, so the owner left out that ingredient for everyone to avoid cross-contamination. The second morning was French toast with poached pears and fresh blueberries. She doesn't put milk out, since most people don't drink it for breakfast these days, but ask if you want it. She'll pour you a glass!
The first night we were there, my husband ordered up a couple of surprises: flowers in the room (they were lovely!) and a meat and cheese plate that was wonderful. There were three types of cheese, one meat, a hot pepper jelly, two types of crackers, and fresh seedless grapes. The jelly was so good, I asked for the name so I could buy some more for my husband. I also purchased a cookbook there, and it has some great recipes in it.
The only negative I had about the place was that the site said there was a DVD player in the rooms, so I brought along some movies to watch with my husband in the evening. It turns out there was no DVD player, but they do have extensive cable, so we still had something to watch when we wanted to relax...
Read moreWe drove in on a stormy evening and were awestruck by the beauty of the Inn even on a dreary day. Throughout our drive Kathy, the owner, already did a fantastic job of keeping us updated by text and even checked in to see if we were ok because of the sudden rain. We were greeted to a cozy interior and a really fast/easy check in process after a very long drive from Boston by the fantastic Kathy. She lead us up to our room "The Gorham" and I was shocked to see how big it was. It had all the quaint charms of Maine packed into a room without feeling dated; you could also tell that she takes meticulous care of the property as everything seemed well kept and extremely clean. There was enough space for a king size bed, a huge TV, a sitting area, an extra bed, and more. The bed itself was super comfortable with some of the softest sheets, fleece blanket on top, and nice pillows.
The next morning she had a delicious breakfast ready for us in a dining area that looked so perfect/cute it looked like it was taken straight out of a Disney movie. There's always tea/sodas available at the front and one night we even came back to chocolate chip peanut butter cookies. I am not an earlier riser by any means but I made sure to wake up to sample whatever she was cooking.
Finally the best part of the whole thing is the owner herself; she's the sweetest most accommodating person. An example was I couldn't get my wi-fi to connect on my phone and kind of fixated on that for the first few hours after checking in. Kathy saw that it was something important to me and she stayed up trouble shooting until it was fixed. I'm coming back next time we visit Maine because we got all of the above for a fantastic price. It had all the uniqueness that a chain hotel can't provide, amazing customer service, great food, and... it was actually one of the cheaper options when I was booking. I'm almost reluctant to write this review as it's going to make this hidden gem no longer hidden, but Kathy is an awesome host and others should get to experience PineCrest...
Read moreMy wife and I discovered the PineCrest Inn pretty much by accident. Our initial intent was to just spend five days in Jackson NH, enjoying the White Mountain view and changing fall leaves. But since we needed to fly in/out of Portland Maine, we decided to tack-on another five days in Maine. So the search for a B&B near Portland began.
Reviews of the PineCrest Inn painted a picture of a B&B in a small town with a lot of warmth and charm, so we booked a stay in the "Gorham" suite. Boy are we glad we did!
Coming from a more urban location (Annapolis), we were pleasantly surprised at the small-town, cozy atmosphere that Gorham offered. The hospitality and attention to detail of the owner (Kathy) made this the PERFECT stay! From the mouth-watering breakfasts to the warm, inviting nature of the inn, it was a pleasure coming home to roost after a day of sightseeing around Maine! The daily nightime baked goodies and beverages in the kitchenette were a great way to end each day.
Though finding this place was s bit of serendipity for us, we would recommend PineCrest Inn to anyone looking for a short two-day stay, as well as a longer one. Five...
