The hotel was nice. The room itself was mostly nice. There was not much space to lay out your bags though. There was no refrigerator for personal use. There was a refrigerator filled with items to purchase. The room was not quiet. We were put on the first floor even though we requested a high floor and are platinum elite members. In advance we used one of our upgrade certificates but were denied availability before checkin via email without any explanation. In fact, we knew there were upgrades available at the hotel although we were not offered one when we checked in. Now the bad, this was perhaps the noisiest room I have ever stayed in. When people walked across the floor in the room above us it sounded like a herd of elephants. Also there was mostly constant and an extreme amount of noise in the hallway outside our room. There was some sort of disturbing altercation in the hallway outside our room from about 1 AM until after 2:30 AM. The other thing you should know about downtown Grand Forks is that we didn't feel safe there. Actually, across the river in East Grand Forks things seemed a lot better. The staff were mostly dismissive when we shared...
Read moreThe Olive Ann is a wonderful place to stay. The rooms are nice, very clean, and quite special. It offers complimentary in-garage valet parking, or you can park yourself in the nearby garage for no charge--an over-street walkway takes you to the hotel. The only hiccup is that the garage lacks "accessible" parking on Level 2, where the over-steet walkway is located, but this is an easy fix--perhaps the hotel will address this minor fault. The hotel has an aviation theme owing to being named after a founder of Beechcraft Airplanes. It has a breakfast area for morning, which is quite nice, but you do order at the counter. Skies, one GFK's special restaurants is on property, Harry's steakhouse is a block away, and the Toasted Frog, Rhombus Pizza, and Ely's Ivy are two blocks away. Staying at the Olive Ann to take full advantage of all these excellent restaurants is a great...
Read moreWhat a wonderful addition to downtown Grand Forks! From the moment we stepped in to the fresh, modern lobby, we felt well cared for. The valet parking meant that we stayed out of the North Dakota winter weather. Our suite was spacious, and when we noticed that the tv's weren't working, 2 friendly maintenance people were there promptly to sort out the issue (and give us lots of Marriott points for our inconvenience!). So many charming touches! From the story of Olive Ann, founder and CEO of Beechcraft airplanes, came lots of air-themed art work and decor. The wallpaper in the bathroom was the most clever and fun I've ever seen (see photo)! The huge windows brought in the beautiful sunset and then the lights of downtown. The location was perfect, with the best restaurants in town and some cute shops just a short walk from the doors. This will be our go-to GF hotel...
