The food here is phenomenal and the service was top knotch during our first visit. The atmosphere is pleasant as well. Servers are friendly and it seems like everything you would want at a restaurant.
However, when you're from out of town and go there based off of a locals recommendation you may not always know the restaurants "requirements". Let's be honest, not everybody is going to go to a restaurants website and dig through all the different areas. They just want to know the hours and the food you have.
We started with a table of three and more people unexpectedly showed up. It's understandable that it will take a bit longer to get seated with a change like that. What isn't understandable is when the staff starts talking poorly about potential customers when they think you're out of earshot. Another member of our surprise group was still inside and heard the negative comments. It was very unprofessional to do so especially when you're in a customer heavy area. I get it, it's frustrating. If you really must vent, do it somewhere that customers can't hear you.
Will I go back there again if I'm ever in Grand Forks? It's debatable, but I'm leaning towards yes. The food was just that good, but if I pass through Fargo first I'll stop at that location before I consider the Grand Forks...
Read moreWanted to try this place because it smelled so good walking past it. Overall, an edible but not stellar experience. The calamari appetizer was very good. It featured calamari strips rather than the traditional rings. It was after that the things went downhill. I had fish tacos. They would have been good except that the fish was blackened to death and was dried jerky. My wife had walleye which had more breading than fish. She did have some green beans she said were excellent. My son had a sandwich that was an open faced fire roasted chicken thing and he said it was very good. His girlfriend on the other hand ask for Aid portobello mushroom open-faced sandwich without the aioli sauce. Unfortunately it came smothered with some kind of white mayonnaise on the bread which made it a soggy mess. She didn't say anything about it until it was too late to send it back and just suffered through it. It came with sweet potato fries which were good. The service was adequate but somewhat slow. In summary, I wont be going back next time I visit this area but will go a few blocks down the street to a place where we had a perfect dining experience...
Read moreI decided to try The Toasted Frog for the first time, and I'm honestly mad it took me so long to go! I had the scallops with garlic mashed potatoes with the soup of the day for an appetizer and the crème brûlée for dessert. The food was amazing, the use of flavor was phenomenal, and honestly, this was the best meal I've had since moving to Grand Forks. The only thing I didn't care for was the snap peas that were the veggie of the day, but honestly, that was more of a personal preference for my taste. The chef is not stingy at all with the garlic with the potatoes, and it was refreshing to have a garlic forward dish at a restaurant for once. The soup was exceptionally delicious with its texture and bakance of sweet and savory, like a warm hug in a bowl! My waitress Dahlia gave friendly and professional service and made sure i was taken care of. I will be making this restaurant part of my regular rotation, and I expect greatness from them again in the future! Thank you, Toasted Frog, for an incredible dining experience on my birthday. I am looking forward to...
