My husband and I are repeat guests at the Extended Stay America Select Suites-South Akron location over the past 5yrs. We are currently in between homes and moving to Missouri at the end of October 2024. When our previous lease ended a month ago we decided it would be difficult to find a 7 month lease rental and staying in a hotel would be our best option. I researched hotels in the Akron/Canton area and Extended Stay America Select Suites was hands down the best choice for a long-term stay. Booking is easily done by calling location directly or creating a member account online. The rates are reasonable and affordable. In fact, they have the best weekly rates in the Akron/Canton area. I have read multiple reviews over the years and they generally consist of likes or dislikes with the rooms, amenities, and restaurant if available. Therefore, I would like to start my review by acknowledging the best hotel manager I have ever met Christian at the South Akron location. Christian is clearly dedicated to ensuring guest satisfaction. He has always provided us with exceptional customer! He's always incredibly welcoming and attentive. He has the ability to go above and beyond in meeting guest needs, resolving issues, and providing a positive experience. He has promptly addressed the minimal concerns we have had. We really appreciate staff members that go above and beyond to ensure a pleasant stay. I will now give my review of the rest of the hotel and experience. The Extended Stay America Select Suites is a good hotel with economical rates. Check-In was smooth and hassle free, thanks to friendly and efficient staff. First class service was provided from start to finish. I feel like it is worth mentioning that you can not gain access into the hotel from any door without possessing a guest key card except for the front foyer area where check-in is but you still can not gain access to the Suites from this area without key. Management at this location takes guest privacy and safety very serious. Extended Stay America Select Suites is the perfect location! It is conveniently situated near many restaurants, stores, and highway access. Within a 3 mile radius there is many fast food, sports bar, and family oriented restaurants with a variety of different cuisines to choose from. Within a 3 mile radius there is Target, Walmart, Dollar Tree, Staples, Sally Beauty, Rue 21, Kohl's, and several more. The Suites are spacious and equipped with full-size refrigerator, stovetop, microwave, and plenty of kitchen cabinet storage, which makes the suite feel like a true home away from home. The hotel also has an on-site laundry facilities with 5 washers and 6 dryers which makes laundry day a little less stressful. Also, we appreciate that you must use your suite key to gain entrance into the laundry facility as well. This hotel has all the amenities we really needed for a 7 month extended stay. The quality of service and the amenities justified the cost. Actually, it's a great value for price paid exceeeding our expectations. The only complaint I have is the stairwells on both ends of the building have a horrible odor some days. Overall, we've had a great experience, felt welcomed, and would definitely recommend the Extended Stay America Select Suites-South...
Read moreThe stay was interesting. The alarm went off multiple times. The room was decent, but the kitchenette stove that they provide can't be used unless you want to buy their kitchen kit for $30.
The young woman at the front desk was awesome. She displayed amazing customer service skills when the key wasn't working when I arrived a little before midnight. She quickly moved me to a different room, but the key still wouldn't work with the new room. She remained calm and just very kind. She let me into my new room and assured me they would fix it in the morning. Each time I saw her, she was very friendly.
The disappointment came when I asked a man at the front desk about the washer because it didn't work at first. He stated that because the washer was there by a third party, he didn't know why it wasn't working. He didn't try to call anyone and didn't even walk with me to the washer to see if he could figure out what the issue was, so I observed no customer service skills with him. Instead, he told me in a rude tone that he didn't know because it was there by a third party company. I even asked if he could call his supervisor. He told me there was only one person above him and repeated himself about the third party. I then reminded him that even if it was there by a third party, he should know something about them because they're in his hotel and I walked away to go figure it out myself. I finally got it working. All I had to do was slide my card in the opposite direction. He could have helped with that, I would have expressed my appreciation, and it would have been a great interaction, but instead, he chose to be so rude and completely unhelpful.
Last Saturday morning, I had asked the woman at the front desk if there would be a refund if I checked out one day early since I no longer needed it. She assured me that it would be refunded to the card and the manager was just behind her as she told me this. However, the following day, Sunday, one, there was no hot water. I then had to leave before the front desk opened and I called to tell Christian, the manager that I had checked out and left the keys in the room. He said that was fine, but when I double checked and asked to ensure the card was refunded, he told me there was a charge of $43 for the day I didn't stay. That was not okay with me because it was my brother's card and I now owe him that $43! I calmly told him that I had specifically asked the woman at the front desk the day before and she assured me that the card would be refunded for the one day I no longer needed. Christian refused to listen and instead, became angry yelling at me claiming he wasn't going to argue over policy. He then hung up on me.
I have never been treated so rudely by hotel staff and I have stayed in many hotels. I could not believe Christian didn't even apologize for his employee's misinformation. I will not be returning to this hotel and I am cautioning anyone reading this to beware of these two men who are the MANAGERS. They should be demoted and required to receive customer service skills training and Christian needs anger...
Read moreI just wanted to share the experience we had while staying in Akron, Ohio. We were there for work. Starting our stay in November 4, 2024. I have stayed at plenty on Extended Stay hotel over the years due to work travels. I thoroughly enjoy staying here ! Beautifully decorated, clean, friendly staff and all needs are met! I was quite surprised by the price that was offered online! So I booked the room for 1 week (usually 1 week at a time while working). The manager at yhe front desk at that time gave is a weekly rate of $377+ for the week! Our room was definitely subpar. Very bland with very noisy neighbors! Well... we stuck it out for the week and opted to stay another week. $377+ for the week. During our stay we asked the front desk for clean towels and bed clothes but was denied and told that we were responsible for washing our own linen. WOW! Having to leave the state for a family matter, we decided to pay for a 3rd week so we didn't have to pack up our belongings and take with us. On the 3rd time paying for our room, for the week, we were charged an additional $53+ for the same room!?!?! When I confront Chris at the front desk, he proceed to get aggressive and damn near throwing the small computer in my face! Shouting that "he doesn't control the rates and we could have a refund and vacate the property! I turned to leave and accept the extra charge ( for all of the services that we never received) while mumbling to myself "this place can kiss my a$$, I call corporate! ". I guess Chris heard me mumble something and proceed to come across the desk as if he was coming after me! I quickly turned back to him as he proceed to shout and argue with me. He is now threatening to call the sheriff and have me removed from the property because he didn't like my attitude! Well.. the sheriff never showed and he closed the office early. We left for the week for our family matter. Upon returning, we went to talk to the manager regarding the additional charge. Christian, the manager) was flirting with the guest in front of us making us wait even longer for our conversation. We he eventually found the time to talk with us, his attitude changed and told us that he would not be extending our stay due to the confrontation that "I had with his employee"! I tried to explain to him that it was his employee that confronted me in anger! I even asked him to review the video to confirm my version of the story . He declined! So instead of reprimanding his employee he decided to disrespect the paying customer and kicked us out! Watch out for this place and the employees here. I will be contacting corporate about this matter. STAY CLEAR...
