I was skeptical of Morgan's Mattresses when I saw their ad's on Craigslist. I figured they couldn't be that much more competitive to a major nationwide store. I also remembered hearing on "Adam Ruins Everything" about how mattress stores will compensate people for positive reviews, while compensating influencers for the leads generated from their reviews. How can Morgan's Mattresses truly compete against the mattress giants? I ended up going to Mattress Firm after researching their website.
When I arrived at Mattress Firm, a sales rep greeted me with an iPad and began asking sales questions about my sleep that were meant to sound helpful. (I used to do sales) I didn't want a pushy sales person that knew my consumer pain points, so I told the Mattress Firm rep that I was shopping for a guest room, and that I had a $500 budget. I told them the mattress would be used once or twice a month by visitors. They walked me to the back of the store and showed me the worst bouncy coiled mattresses you could think of, standing against a wall, while asking between $500-$800. The most acceptable nightmare of a mattress wasn't in stock at that store, so I would have to drive from Tanasbourne to Cascade Station near the Portland airport. They tried really hard to get me to pay before leaving, even though I said I needed a second opinion from my spouse. I ended up leaving, and skipping the nearby Bedmart.
I went to Morgan's Mattresses expecting similarq pushy sales tactics. I figured if they sucked, I could leave and buy a good used mattress off Craigslist. The owner, Morgan, is who greeted me at the door. I told him I wasn't familiar with mattresses, and was I looking for something more firm, queen sized, and around $500. The store is very small, with different manufacturer mattresses stacked on top of each other. He told me the posted prices included a box spring. He showed me the mattresses that were in my price range, and described the differences between each. I ended up trying a few mattresses, and chose the Stearns & Foster Oakridge. He charged me $499, which included a box spring. (The mattress alone is nearly $1800) I asked why he charges so cheap. He buys mattresses that have minor cosmetic defects, makes repairs, and resells. He has excess inventory stored in three semi truck trailers, and some storage units. My mattress had a few small tears from the manufacturer, which was patched by the store. While not pretty, it's not noticeable once you put on the bedsheets and blankets.
Morgan asked if I needed delivery. I said I was interested. He asked if I lived in Gresham, which I replied, "No, downtown Portland". He said he could do it for $50. I told him that the delivery price was great, but I needed it same day. He scheduled it for 6 hours out, with delivery taking place around 6pm. I paid him via Cash app, as traditional credit card processing charges him roughly a 4% fee.
Around 5:40pm, he called to inform me that the delivery team was enroute, but stuck in traffic. He said they should arrive around 6:15pm. At 6:20pm, I got a call from the delivery team, letting me know they arrived. It was hot out, and I knew my mattress was very heavy. I also have very steep stairs they would have to wrestle the mattress up. I gave both people $20 each as a tip, and apologized they would be going up the stairs. They got both the mattress and box spring up within 5 minutes, and placed them where I wanted them. They offered to remove the delivered mattress and box spring from the plastic wrap, but I declined the offer.
I will go to Morgan's Mattress for all my future bedding needs. He wasn't pushy, I felt I was in control of the process. I also noticed he sells mattress protectors near the front door. He never asked if I wanted to purchase one. No upsells. Well, I do need a mattress protector, so I'll go back in a few weeks when I get...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I bought a mattress from this company and supposedly there was cut for a discount and they sewed on some strips to make the mattress at a discounted price. Well needless to say less than a month later, we’re going out to buy a mattress in a box because this mattress that we paid $400 for is nothing but garbage buyer, beware would not waste your money, especially if you’re on a fixed income. We also were going to do the payment option but thankfully my boyfriend was able to pay the bed off within three days. Had we known that the bed was going to be nothing but garbage we would’ve taken the bed back, but we thought that this was a trustworthy company we could not have been so wrong so again I would not waste your money I would rather have bought a $200 bed in a box from Walmart. We would’ve gotten a lot better quality product do you not waste your money with these people it’s not worth it. and most importantly, the frame that they sold us yeah it’s not even the frame that goes together. It’s garbage the whole bed and frame is nothing but garbage so the best advice I can give you is just do not waste your money with this company it’s totally not worth it. And again they said that they seeded the strips back on and as you can see in the photos all it is is fabric tape so again not worth the $400 that they charged us for this my five-year-old granddaughter could’ve done a better job. This was totally not worth the money. This company should be ashamed of themselves. Update after less than 20 minutes of making this review, I would like to give them five star because they totally came out while we’re having an ice storm weather and shoveled our driveway brought us a much better bed and totally apologize for the inconvenience. They totally went above and beyond and accommodated us and made it right thank you guys for doing an...
Read moreAbove and beyond service! More businesses and people need to be like Morgan and his staff!! Mattresses are great price and great quality :)
A gem mattress store tucked away!
I’m someone who will be str8 up too. If a place doesn’t deserve a good review, I have no issue saying it. Im a single dad to a 16months old daughter, I needed a new mattress badly lol. Not to mentioned I care for my older autistic brother and my elderly mom. The weight on my shoulders is hurting my back lol, but Morgan’s team helped with that! Not pushing me on the sale but helping me decide with what I Want and Needed!! And, my mom, who’s suffers from mobility issues and spinal cord surgery’s recently needed a new mattress too! And it haaaad to be just right. And mattress shopping is stressful enough lol. Morgan’s team cares about their customers. The height wasn’t right on her new one and they went above and beyond to make sure my mom was happy with her bed. And she is :D We are! Very happy! I sleep sooo nicely now. And so is my mom.
If i recommend any mattress store… ITS THIS ONE! Don’t bother going anywhere else because they got good priced stuff, willing to help discount with you because they aren’t pushing like other stores, good quality mattresses, listen to their customers and has mattress knowledge!
I need more mattresses in the guest rooms soon, I know where I’ll be going :D
Also: don’t get mad at them for the Oregon state mattress fee. That extra money helps keep 120,000+ mattress out of our landfills yearly. We have needed to recycle mattress for MANY DECADES because our landfills our FILLED with them from generations (takes up to 100yrs for a mattress to decompose). This Oregon fee is used for recycling facilities to now recycle mattresses. It’s not Morgan’s fault lol. Just pay the fee to help recycle our...
