NEVER have I stayed in a place that the owner/manager has absolute disregard for their guests comfort and SAFETY as I have at McQuirks. As a hotelier myself, I don't write this kind of review lightly. I am a seasoned traveler who's stayed in everything from host family houses, hostels to 5 star hotels. This is not a hotel, it's more like two bars with some rooms above it. Every other hotel I looked at in Hampton Beach was a dump and this one kinda seemed like it was clean and updated. When I booked the room, I noticed the website was lacking some useful information like cancelation policy and security, so I called them. They didn't answer at first, left a message, didn't get a call back. I called again and someone picked up. I asked two simple questions: what's your cancelation policy and what hours does your front desk operate? I didn't expect him to say it was but he quickly answered, it's 24 hours. Ok, great, that's good for me. My husband and I drove from New York city with an 18 month old so it basically took all day. We arrived at 8pm and parked behind the building. The bar was lively and there was loud music on. We were confused on where to enter and got a little lost. There's no signage for the entrance/front desk. We asked some people and finally found the right door. We walked up to a little desk, it was empty and not well lit. Again, no signage. Is this the front desk? No one's here. There should be a sign of some sort stating to call the main line. There should be a phone so one could call the main line.BUT there was NOTHING. I went to the restaurant and a server was gracious enough to call the owner/manager. We waited for at least 15 minutes when he showed up. He was quite content to tell us that he was partying next door. He must have thought we were a no show and he was going to get some free money. Being in the business, 8pm is not late enough to assume no one's showing. A guest should call if they think they won't be there in time for the midnight turn over. That's when you are a no show. If he wanted to party, he should have called us, would have been a nice touch to check on your last guest. This is what I would have done as a hotelier but clearly he is not one himself. Instead he stressed out a family who had been traveling all day. We checked in and he gave me a parking pass, we were room 204. I told him I parked in the back and he said, "No, you can't park there, it's for the restaurant" The hotel lot is all the way at the end of the street. (see pictures) Another of many instances where the profits of the bar top even basic accommodations for hotel guests. Why not make your bar guests walk and sober up before they get to their car? No help was offered with our bags despite having an 18 month old with us and being very pregnant. Also worth noting is that the sign for the parking lot insanely has a sign leading cars the wrong way down a one way street (see picture).||||When we were finally in our room, we found that despite the fact that we'd booked an ocean view room, our room faced the two very loud bars also owned by the hotel (see pictures). The sound insulation on the room was very much inadequate and so we got to listen to not one but two awful cover bands until midnight. For the Friday and Saturday we were there we tolerated it, however on Sunday when the music was playing until after 11 we discovered that it was at a volume much in excess of local regulations and we called the manager to ask him to get them to turn it down to legal limits and in response they flat out refused. When we said we'd be forced to call the local precinct because they were in violation of local laws he invited us to go ahead and do that. I've never seen a hotel have such a blatant disregard for the law, their community or their guests' health, as my 18 month old and pregnant me were kept up because they couldn't be bothered to obey local laws or properly soundproof their hotel (see videos and pictures)||Not only could we not sleep because of the noise, the bed was unbearably uncomfortable, lopsided, squeaky and lumpy. It gave both me and my husband back pains, we don't have back issues normally.||||When we were ready to leave this hell hole, once again no one was at the desk, but someone finally saw us and took the time to come out and say (Imagine a tall, middle aged white guy talking to a 7 month pregnant "ethnic looking" woman carrying a small child.) HE said " You know what, don't come back here." I laughed in his face and replied, " How so?" He responded "You are so needy, in fact don't even come back to Hampton Beach, it's not your place, you're not welcome here" No one should speak to another human being like that, let alone a hotelier speaking to their guest. (P.S. our room wasn't cleaned the entire time we were there). I've never really seen a hotel manager so actively hateful towards guests.||If you value your health and safety you'll avoid this dump like the plague; a garbage hotel run by...

Read moreFirst off let me say the place has an amazing views of the ocean as well as all that Hampton Beach has to offer. Check in was very easy, but the guy at the desk, heard he was the owner, was kind of stiff in the neck. Not a very outgoing or friendly man, but hey, some people are shy so who am I to judge. Parking is down the street on the corner of J St and Ashworth Ave. You are given a placard with your room number and an assigned parking spot with that room number also. You can unload your car at the appropriate parking spot before parking your car. Entering the room was cheerful and a beautiful view. Room is small but not bad for two people. Strange thing was, we had what seemed to be a wine cooler for our refrigerator, there is no microwave or coffee pot, which is very strange to me. I'm guessing they don't want you to cook or have coffee so you can order from their restaurant. ||||The room itself was very clean but the doors, OMG! the doors were hard as hell to open and close because of swelling from hot humid air outside to cold A/C air inside. Our rooms bathroom door would not close, so if your staying with a friend and not a spouse or gf/bf, tell them to wait outside while you shower or take a bathroom break. The door leading out to the deck, you had to pull hard to open and push hard to close. The deck is a shared community wrap around deck, which we did not mind at al. We had it to ourselves most of the time. And when we didn't, we met some nice old couple and another very nice man. The walls are very thin so you can hear lots of banging and footsteps from the upper suite and everyone that frequents the halls. ||||One of our biggest issues beside no microwave, was the bed itself. The mattress they use is a memory foam mattress that was so worn out I had to literally sleep side by side with my wife like it was a twin bed to keep from falling off of it. They definitely need new mattresses. Another big issue for us was no privacy at all. The blinds they use are see through and they have no curtains for privacy. I have never seen a motel or hotel that did not provide privacy for it's guest. That to me is very strange. Anyone on the outside deck can see through the blinds into your room at night. So think twice before walking around nude or having sex, unless you like watchers. ||||If you like to sleep in pure darkness this place is not for you. The room is lit up like a Christmas tree at night, all night. Also, if you go to bed early and don't like noise, stay far away from here....lol. You will here cars, horns, people and live music up until 1am. If you're thinking of having dinner I would definitely try elsewhere and not their restaurant. I got sick off their breakfast and did not go back after that.||||So here's the pros and cons so you can decide if you would like to rent here.||||Pros: Beautiful Views, Center of everything, clean, nice TV, free WiFi, Nice deck, excellent place to people watch, live music in the late afternoon and evening (some might like that, as we did), easy check in, just a few feet from the beach, walking distance to everything Hampton has to offer, fear rental price, excellent A/C for hot humid days, TV has lots of channels, free parking.||||Cons: VERY! bad mattress, sticking doors, no privacy at all, very noisy with thin walls, shared deck (some of you might not like that), no microwave, no coffee pot, restaurant is not trust worthy and dirty, very loud (again some might not like that), very bright at night and hard for sleeping, parking is down the street and not visible from the hotel. ||||All in all my wife and I would stay at McGuirks if they updated the mattress and fix the privacy issues, and maybe add a microwave at least.||||I hope this review will help you decide on where you want to stay at...
