Follow-Up Review for Hyatt House Whippany/Parsippany
Hyatt shows no accountability for the unsanitary and unacceptable conditions at this hotel. Even after we provided detailed proof with photos, management faced no consequences, and Hyatt Corporation ignored it.
They claim to care about guests, but their lack of oversight proves otherwise. We will never stay at another Hyatt, and I strongly warn against the Hyatt House in Whippany/Parsippany—or any Hyatt property in NJ.
My family and I have been staying at several Hyatt House locations in New Jersey (Morristown, Branchburg, and most recently Parsippany/Whippany) during our relocation from Michigan. Unfortunately, our experiences have been increasingly disappointing and concerning, culminating in a serious health issue during our most recent stay.
At Morristown, we discovered mold and water damage in the bathroom ceiling that made me ill. At Branchburg, we were forced to leave abruptly because we could not extend our stay due to overbooking.
At Parsippany/Whippany, where we stayed for 30 days, the situation became unsafe. My health declined drastically—severe sneezing, coughing, wheezing, and asthma symptoms—so much so that my husband nearly took me to the ER.Then I developed a rash. I am certain that I have mold toxicity. All of my symptoms were gone after we left the hotel.
The room had visibly dirty carpets, water damage, poor ventilation, and clear evidence of mold, including inside the shower drain. Despite my efforts to thoroughly clean the room myself, my symptoms persisted. Staff later shampooed the carpet after continued complaining and changed the air filter, but there was no significant improvement.
The carpets are so soiled that our socks turned black from simply walking on them, and we were told that deep cleaning is only done quarterly with no option for urgent service. Meanwhile, the H Bar has been closed throughout our entire stay—we were told food had been ordered two weeks prior, but nothing has been stocked.
The property itself is in visible disrepair: the building is dilapidated, the parking lot was seal coated instead of properly resurfaced, and for five straight days contractors were jackhammering concrete near the pool—creating hours of noise and disruption every day.
To make matters worse, this property charges for parking and still harasses guests even after vehicles are properly registered on the app. They also charge $6.00 to do a single load of laundry in filthy, poorly maintained washers and dryers that break down as you are doing a load of laundry.
To be clear, the staff and housekeeping teams have been friendly and pleasant, but they are clearly limited by policies and by a lack of upkeep and support from management (the GM was seldom present during our stay).
We have been loyal Hyatt guests for decades, but these properties are no longer being maintained to safe, sanitary, or consistent standards. Long-stay guests like us are being put at serious risk. This hotel has no functioning amenities, yet charges an “amenity fee” on top of parking and laundry charges.
We ultimately checked out and left our rooms in cleaner condition than we received them, and we took photos to document the conditions. Hyatt needs to urgently address the mold, cleanliness, ventilation, and food service issues at these locations to protect future guests. We stayed in rooms...

Read moreThis stay started off poorly. I arrived at 2 PM and was hoping our room might be available as I needed to change into a dress for a wedding shower, but was told it would cost $20 for early check in to check in then. The front desk woman knew why I wanted to check in early. I ended up changing in the public bathroom off the lobby. Then my husband informs me that parking is an extra charge one pays at the parking space using an app and this place is not in a city but with nothing walking distance to do really, so parking should be included. I am sure if we requested a late check out time, we would have been charged there, too.
We were assigned room 169. I am a light sleeper and asked if a top floor room was available. I was told, “Not at the price you paid.” It wasn’t that they already had the top floor (which isn’t that high here…no more than five floors I am pretty sure, and with no city or water view or such) sold out. I suspect rooms sat empty on the top floor the one night we were there. They simply like charging people wherever they can. Customer service here is lacking. I felt like we got a room ending in 69 for a reason.
The breakfast room was noisy and packed like we have rarely seen a hotel breakfast room (and we travel a fair amount), and food was not being well stocked. In the first minutes we were there, they were out of fruit other than bananas (apple basket empty and fruit bowl empty), out of donut holes, and out of other stuff. The line to get a coffee was long and blocking the exit to the outdoor seating (where we went as weather was surprisingly nice given weather this summer, and we had a wonderful chat with people sitting at two of the tables near us, who have stayed here longer and noted that the food is often out).
The suites are spacious and there is a kitchen with a tall refrigerator, microwave, two burner stove, and dishwasher. Saw lots of housekeeping staff at 10 AM on Sunday, but we were only there for one night, so I can’t say how they do, but at least they had a lot of Our hotel in WV the weekend prior had zero housekeeping unless it was requested.
The bed seemed small for a queen, but I slept just fine (in part likely due to getting home at around 1 AM and having f had a long day on the road before the wedding shower).
Also know there is a very similar looking Hyatt House only a few miles from here. Our GPS took us to that one when we headed back to the room at around 1 AM and I am glad we weren’t staying there as there was a wedding after party right around the corner from suites and the sign said it was going until 2 AM and they were loud. I doubt people near that bar space...
