We stayed at the Settlers Inn for my fiances birthday. We decided to get away from the hustle and bustle of NJ traffic and crowds and stay somewhere a little more quiet and quaint. We got EXACTLY what we were looking for in quiet and quaint. Such a cute Inn.
The only disappointment was the room I wanted to reserve on the 1st floor was being renovated, so they had to give us a different room on the 2nd floor. As a smoker with back issues and no elevators, the 2nd floor was a wee bit problematic, especially when taking the luggage, but, the service, the feel of the Inn, the cute feel of the town of Hawley, and the food in the Settlers restaurant made the backache way more tolerable LOL. We were even greeted with a nice birthday card for my fiance, which we have received before when we stayed at high end hotels in bigger cities, but never in a small Inn such as this one. Nice touch!
We were greeted by Kevin, a super nice guy working the front desk. Kevin had texted me prior to our stay to ask if we would like anything added to the room, or if we needed dinner reservations. We arrived late the first night (around 830), so Kevin was able to suggest two other restaurants that could accommodate us at that time. His personal favorite was on the mark. Raven and Robin was delicious and they were able to seat us even though we arrived at 930pm.
We had dinner at the Inn the second night. Every morsal of food was amazing. We had the last reservation and asked to take our dessert to go and they presented it on a cute tray for us to take with us. Everything from the architecture to the ambiance makes you feel cozy and comfy with a hint of class. Everything in Hawley takes you back to a different time period, which is really refreshing. We asked for breakfast to be brought to our room the final day to finish up packing, and it was brought up as ordered with everything needed to accompany our breakfast. I have had bad experiences with room service and they were on the mark!
They have another property a wee bit aways down the road. It is next to the silk mill (if you go to the silk mill, you have to go to the art gallery and speak to the curator, who is rich with history if the area and with art. He took us on a tour of the building and everyone there knows him. He was worth the trip there alone). We plan to stay at their other property the next time we visit. It looks amazing as well.
The only issue I had with the room was it would have been great to have a small fridge and microwave. We had to throw away leftovers from dinner because there was nowhere to store them. We brought a cooler, but being on the 2nd floor, it was way too heavy to carry up the stairs, so I had to keep going to the car to grab our beverages as there was nowhere to keep them cold. That was the only downside to the stay, and it certainly wouldn't keep us from staying in the future. I would plan according and take a smaller cooler to transfer drinks (I also have a fridge that holds up to 6 water bottles/or cans I would bring as well).
I would definitely recommend the Settlers Inn if you plan to stay in Hawley. The service and ambiance is worth a few extra bucks for the rooms (verses some of the cheaper accommodations in the area). Thank you all for making his birthday weekend a great one. We look forward to...
Read moreMy wife and I needed a getaway to unwind and we decided to stay at the Settler's Inn and go hiking in the Pocono's. The Inn is beautiful and the staff are great. We stayed in a standard King room and it was a decent size. Included in the room is a Keurig if you drink coffee. If you drink tea, there was a small room on the second floor that had a electric kettle and some tea bags (also had another Keurig, some different pods for it and some cookies). We ate breakfast at the Inn one mornings and it was quite good. The free breakfast is a normal sit down meal that you order from the menu. Tip can be charged to your room. The Inn offers wifi that was quite good. I was able to stream TV shows without any buffering issues. Bathroom is a little small and there is no counter space. Caused some problem of where to put our toiletries. Other rooms may be different. Hot water was plentiful, but you may need to wait a while to get it. I took a shower early in the morning and had to let the water run for several minutes before it was hot. Not unexpected, just want others to be aware. The inn does have some activities included in your stay that we did not take advantage of (wine tasting, tours, etc). So it all sounds great, so why only three stars? First, a complaint about the entire hotel industry. Stop hiding your full rate behind added fees such as cleaning fees and resort fees. If everyone has to pay these for every night then they should just be included in the room rate. The only purpose of listing them as fees is to make your room rates look lower than they are. And others should note that any discount you receive only applies to the base room rate, not the fees. When we stayed, the resort fee was $30 a night. That pays for a lot of wifi... Hopefully the government reins in these fees the same way they did with the airlines. Because as of now, it borders on deceptive advertising. And yes, I know that everyone else in the industry does this but my mom also always told me that just because everyone else does something doesn't mean I have to. But this alone would not have earned them only 3 stars. So what was the issue? What is the one thing everyone wants from a hotel? While things like a nice location, great staff, a good breakfast, etc are all great to have, basically everyone is primarily looking for a place to sleep. And this is where the problem was. As soon as we walked in the room, we could see that the mattress was lumpy even with all the covers on it. My wife has joint problems and was not able to get a decent night's sleep on this bed during our stay. She actually developed significant back pain from sleeping on it. For the amount charged for the rooms, they should be able to replace the mattresses on a regular basis. As each room is unique, maybe others had newer mattresses and we got a bad one. But, at the end of the day we came here to get rest and we left less rested than we arrived. It is a shame because it is a beautiful facility and a great staff. NOTE: Their site does mention the lack of elevator, but want to make sure others are aware of this. You may consider packing in multiple smaller bags vs one larger one to make it easier to get...
Read moreWe booked two nights at the Settler’s Inn for a friend’s wedding that was held on site. We booked well in advance but had some issues with the physical room we would be checking into as we needed a tub for our toddler, but were accidentally placed in a room with a walk-in shower. I caught this issue a few days prior while confirming with Terri, a desk agent, that was able to move things around and find us a room that would accommodate our family comfortably, and it did. Thank you again, Terri!|Check in with Ashley was great, she was super helpful getting last minute items for our room and kindly helped me carry some of our luggage to our second floor room. |Breakfast was included which was fantastic, really nice tasty menu in the hotel restaurant - and the included meal is off the menu, not just a buffet. Very nice touch. Kind staff carried our many plates and sides up both days, which we appreciated very much.|Kevin at the desk was kind and extremely quick to complete our requests, and certainly stood out to us during our stay as a fantastic member of the team.|The room rate was sky high as it was going into a holiday weekend, about $500 for Friday night before the fourth which is almost highway robbery - the room itself was extremely dated and had a good deal of water damage on the wall and ceiling, and was very dusty. With a toddler, we found all the areas housekeeping doesn’t regularly keep up with (bottom shelf of the end tables, desk, and under the bed was filthy.) It was a little gross, but I come prepared, and I took care of the dust without intervention from the staff. |Some rooms I saw online are beautiful and have really nice renovations, try to get those. 206 was conveniently located for us, but nothing to write home about. It was a place to sleep and bathe, and the air was cold (which was very key). |The price was extremely high for what the town had to offer externally - not much from what I could tell, a dollar general and a few gas stations… but a nice looking lake up the road. But within itself - the inn is a pleasant oasis from the surrounding area. |I would not have taken the time to review the room as it was deeply underwhelming, but the staff made the stay really pleasant and I wanted to thank those that took the time out to really assist us. ||OH! And Serena and Krysta in banquets were super nice to my toddler and helped us out with little requests throughout our night… mom’s always notice the people who give their kids looks, and then those who take the extra time to try to help a mother out - so bless...
