This place does not look very clean and it was cold inside and steamy with a greasy smell from cooking. Bathrooms are filthy, and the place appears dingy and seems they rarely ever clean the floors or windows, China House is in overall disrepair. If Hawley had a department of health I think this place would be closed for cleaning. In the corner by the front window I found what looked like mouse droppings The owners attempt to punish those who wrote bad checks by displaying them on the wall. They only accept cash most likely to avoid paying taxes by who am I to judge.
They have old dirty soda cans on display so you can see what flavors they offer. If you just want tea they make a face at you. All they really care about want is collecting your money. I would bet money that they eith gamle it away hide it in their shrine to Budda.
The woman who takes the orders and loves to take your money does not seem very happy, she barely looks at you when you walk in. She will even charge you extra if you want noodles for dipping, (these were traditionally free in the past), maybe the 65 cents they charge for noodles will help them pay for their childrens college. The food is just average for chinese food, quickly thrown together and can be a lot better, the employees clearly do not care and the best thing for this place would be for it to change ownership.
The China house is quite expensive for a take out restaurant and with all the cash money they make I would really hope to see much better. Sorry China House I hope you can turn your business around before it is too late. Maybe this review will help you to get your act together. Down Town Hawley is such a small place wouldn't it be a beautiful place if everyone gave it their best effort.
If will try again in a few months. If things are better I will certainly report it. Thank you...
Read moreWe’ve been going to the China House in Hawley, Pennsylvania for years, and it’s hands down one of our favorite spots for dinner. Whether we’re dining in or bringing it home, the food is always fresh, flavorful, and satisfying.
I personally can’t get enough of their shrimp and broccoli—perfectly cooked shrimp with tender-crisp broccoli in a delicious sauce. Their cashew chicken is another one of my go-to dishes—rich, savory, and packed with flavor. Every dish we’ve tried has been consistently excellent.
The prices are very reasonable, the portions are generous, and the people are incredibly kind and welcoming. It’s a joy to support a local business that takes pride in what they do and treats their customers like family.
We truly love going there and often look forward to bringing home a great meal to enjoy in the comfort of our own kitchen....
Read moreThe China house has been a staple in most households in Hawley for as long as I can remember. The food has always been excellent. Although lately with the new owners, I have found some of the foods to be a little different. The General Tso's chicken has been so hot(spicy) that we have been unable to eat it. Some of the other dishes have been a little different as well. Kind if disappointing. I can't seem to put my finger on the other differences but they are noticeable. Not in a good way. Maybe we were just spoiled by the previous owners. We'll keep trying , because it's close and maybe they are in their breaking in period. The steamed dumplings are still wonderful! Love them! Check it out see...
