My experience was quite different than your average stay. We are in between moving from Las Vegas to Ohio and chose this property to stay at until we go back to Ohio. I will keep it as brief as I can. Me and my family were staying at this property. It is me, my wife, and I have 2 children, 12 and 14. On Wednesday May 21st at 3:05 AM my wife left the hotel. She did not take her phone. After an hour of looking for her I contacted Law enforcement to help me find her. At 9AM someone found her in a park miles away from the Hotel. She had taken an entire bottle of pills and was unresponsive. She fought for her life for 2 days. Thank God she came out of it and has made a full recovery. The day my wife was coming out of the hospital the Hotel Manager Lena called me into her office. I thought she was going to offer support and concern. I was wrong. She proceeded to tell me she didn't want my wife at her hotel. Lena told me my wife is a mess. She also told me my wife has been here before and that she sees my wife around the front desk. Lena told me she would let us stay the weekend and talk to us on Tuesday. Let me add that we have never been to this hotel in our lives before this stay. Once Tuesday came she called our room and asked us to come talk to her. This is what she said. My wife was a threat to her guests We were an insurance liability The owner forbid her to extend us further and to remove us from the property We need to find some place cheaper The State was going to take our kids These are just some of things she said. Lena is the General Manager at this hotel and lives there herself. The few weeks we stayed there we never caused one problem. We paid our bill and minded our business. The staff was fantastic. Hudson, Mona and Rihanna (Not sure I'm spelling her name right) are wonderful. I actually consider them friends. Lena treated us as if we were garbage. We don't drink or use drugs. We are a good family. My wife suffered a break down. I've been with her 20 years. She is a great human being. Lena is an awful soul. The Hawthorne Suites should be ashamed of themselves. Why would you throw a family out of a hotel because one of occupants tried to take their life miles away from the hotel. Thank you Lena and the owner for putting us on the street at the worst time...
Read moreWhen we arrived, the young lady working the front desk was very pleasant and processed our check-in very quickly. We asked about the pool (which is supposed to be open 24h/day) and she advised us that it "needed to be fixed." When we asked about a repair ETA she said "I'm not sure, maybe by the weekend?" (We arrived on a Tuesday...) She recommended checking in with the desk every so often for any updates. When we asked a couple of days later, the young guy behind the counter said that it was the heater that was broken, but we were free to use the pool if we wanted to. Better than nothing, but not by much.
The lobby area and hallways look dated and are in serious need of a refresh. I noticed an out of order notice on one of the vending machines by the front desk when we checked in. Interestingly, it seemed to be repaired the following day. I guess Las Vegas has a lot more vending machine repair companies than pool repair companies...
The rooms themselves are plain with plain older model furniture that is somewhat oddly laid out. Friends travelling with us had a sofa in their room, but it was along the same wall as the TV. And since it was a tube TV in a gigantic cabinet, it wasn't exactly easy to move it for a better view. Our room had a flat screen TV and the selection of channels was decent.
As for the bathroom, the bathtub made a creaking noise whenever you stepped on or in it that was so loud, I thought it was going to crack underneath me at any point...
The beds were kind of lumpy, but fine overall. The pillows, however, were AWFUL. They were thin and light, it kind of felt like I was sleeping on a giant tea bag... Despite having two pillows together and folded over, I still woke up with a neck ache in the morning.
To give credit where it's due, the breakfast options were decent, the wi-fi was fast and reliable and the AC was efficient without being really noisy. The staff were always friendly and pleasant. And the location, although off the beaten path, was pretty conveniently located to the freeway, shopping, fast food, etc.
We got a great rate for this hotel, especially considering that we were there for Memorial Day weekend, but in future, we'll probably...
Read moreIt feels bad to be writing a negative review. I always try to look for the positives. That said we would not stay in this hotel again. The entrance was not automatic which made it very hard to get our luggage in. The carpets were stained and dirty in the main areas. In general everything appeared very run down inside the hotel. Our room smelled although our traveling companions' room next door did not. The rooms themselves were not clean and things were outdated. The hot and cold water in the shower was reversed from what it actually was in both rooms and the bathrooms were dirty too. The hallway smelled like pot. The cleaning staff had the hallway blocked off on both sides when we were checking out. They were standing there, in the way, talking among themselves. We had to ask them to move to get our suitcases by and even then they barely moved. I had to lift my suitcase over one of their bins to get down the hall. The equipment in the workout room did not work. The front desk staff was inconsistent. The woman who checked us out was great. The other two people we dealt with didn't seem to necessarily know what they were doing. Check in was extremely slow and we had to reiterate the type of room we reserved becasue they were not going to give us that type of room. Because our stay here on the way to our destination was so substandard we cancelled our reservation for the way back. But, somehow we still received a confirmation that we were staying there. We had to call the hotel again before it was actually cancelled. Perhaps the most troubling part was the neighborhood. We felt very unsafe. There were homeless and drunk people walking (or laying) around. In fact, when we were bringing our luggage to our car after we checked out, a police officer was on the front sidewalk trying to rouse a homeless person who was either asleep or passed out. Overall our stay here was not...
