HAS COCKROACHES!!! OWNER KNOWS!!! SEE PICTURES AND VIDEOS!!!
Definitely my worst experience with a hotel ever! I was in Houston and got in town a day earlier than expected. I decided to book something just for one night to sleep then go to a Hilton that I booked for the remainder of my trip. I decided to book a Comfort Inn since the public perception is that they are a good budget hotel chain with a minimum standard of excellence that has to be adhered to. Boy was I wrong.
It started at check in. This location allowed me to check in 2.5 hrs early. During the check-in the clerk struggled to get it done smoothly like most hotels. Things like reservation info, room assignments, photo coping my ID, deposit, etc. Process took about 15 minutes.
Once I got my room (Room 103), the door was propped open like it had just been cleaned. I go inside and it was a handicap accessible room which was not something I booked. The bed sheets were made but the pillows and decorative blanket was stacked on the tv stand. The room carpet and chairs had stains. Since all I wanted was a clean bed to sleep in for the night and a serviceable shower, I was willing overlook all of these red flags.
I left to go downtown and brought dinner back that evening to eat in the room before going to bed. As I was eating on the desk, I noticed an insect close to my food. Thinking it was an ant, I just killed it and thought nothing of it. Then within minutes, another much larger insect fell onto my bare leg since I was wearing shorts. This is were I know we had a problem. I immediately started looking for more and found them. I killed one large one with a room pamphlet. I trapped another larger on with a plastic cup. Then more tiny ones were crawling around the wall, desk, ice bucket, and lamp. Upon closer inspection, they were cockroaches, large and small. I grabbed all my stuff and got the hell out of that room.
I went to the front desk and a different younger lady was there. I told her about a large cockroach problem in room 103. She did not display much worry or sense of urgency. She did ask me if I had a video of the cockroaches? I did and I also showed her the room with the ones I killed or trapped. She said that all the other rooms were booked for the night. I asked if there was another partner hotel they can put me in. She said that this hotel was privately owned and they didn’t work with anyone else. She said she would have to call the manager. 10 minutes goes by and no response. She then said that I could use another room and she would cancel that person’s reservation. It sucked for that person but maybe they may have dodged a bullet.
She assigned me another room (204). It took 3 different tries of programming the key card for it to let me in. I walked up and down carrying all my stuff because I didn’t want to leave my valuables just sitting in the hallway. The elevator looked, sounded, and operated like it had seen better days. Decided to use the stairs afterwards instead. Inside, the room was the same as the other in terms of stains. This new one had failing or failed light bulbs that were never changed. The bedroom has such dim partially failing bulbs that I ended up switch some that worked better from the other fixtures. After my last room experience, I wanted to inspect the bed for bed bugs. I found none, but decided to sleep with all my closes on and on top of the sheets none the less.
I don’t ever write reviews but this experience was warranted. You can say “you get what you paid for” and I generally abide by that. I decided to book this room because it was cheap
Read moreI am going to be transparent about this hotel. I have read reviews stating that hotel team members have been very rude to customers. I have not experienced that in the least bit. I have had great experience with interacting with the team thus far. Now, I will address the hotel in this next section.
I have stayed at this hotel since the end of February, and I will continue to do so until the summer until my family's home gets rebuilt. I have stayed in several different rooms so I will try my best to describe the pros and cons of this location.
The cons:
1.When cleaners are here, they do a good job of getting rid of the scent but that is until they leave. There are many customers who smoke both cigarettes and weed and you can get such a strong scent of it once you leave your room. The hallways and stairs have that lingering smoke smell. Some days the hallways do not smell bad but that is very seldom.
The internet service cuts out a lot and is not reliable.
3.Tv's in the room only have a few channels that you can view if you have those older lg TVs in your room. If you have the newer Roku tv, the channels you see are only as good as the internet connection is at the time which when I was in one of those rooms, you could rarely watch tv because of how unreliable the Wi-Fi is.
The rooms do have stains on some of their curtains, furniture, and/or towels.
Some of the rooms you could tell had electrical issues. In two of the rooms I stayed in, the lights either would flicker a lot or constantly turned off and on by themselves. One of the lamps even had a light bulb that exploded while I was watching tv in the living room and I had to disconnect the lamp because it started smoking.
I noticed in two of the rooms I stayed in, the floors felt a bit caved in and flimsy on some sections which brought up concerns of the structural integrity. One of the bathrooms you could constantly feel the floor tile click or shift as if they were not installed properly.
Some rooms did not have microwaves.
8.Some rooms do have damaged card scanners, and the elevator buttons are constantly broken by customers. Sometimes the elevator can stop working. I had that happen once.
Sometimes your card can stop working and you have to constantly go back to the front desk to have it rescanned.
Two rooms did have these little, small black bugs flying around and I encountered maybe 2 cockroaches in my month and a half stay.
Now the pros:
The area tends to be quiet most of the time.
The rooms are a bit older looking but they are super spacious.
Furniture is comfortable.
Showers get really warm water.
Close to the mall, stores, and the main highway.
Overall, this hotel has so much potential to be better than what it is. There definitely needs to be more work done to some of the rooms. Renovations should be made to the rooms. There should be a way to battle the horrible smoker smells that can sometimes seep into the rooms, the Wi-Fi reliability issues, more channels for the tv etc. I think this hotel will become better if the money is put into it. I wrote this message so those who look at this hotel really understand what they are getting into. You may get a good room just as you may equally get a bad room. I hope this transparency helps and also understand that you will be required to give a $100 dollar deposit. It is better to give it cash because they will write a receipt that will help you get the money back...
Read moreYou are going to want to stay away from this hotel. I had requested a top floor which they initially were very nice in providing. However, when I walked into the room there was a vacuum cleaner in the middle of the room. I disregarded it and went on with unpacking since I was staying two nights. Once I settled and went to turn on the light in the bedroom I realized the lamp shade and the light bulb were missing. Additionally, the TV would not connect to the internet and the bathroom had a huge hole in the wall under the sink that critters could enter and exit. I called and spoke to the front desk to make them aware of the issues and the front desk lady stated she would make a note of it for me. I explained I didn't want to move since I had unpacked and it was late that the bed was fine. The next morning I spoke to another front desk lady that stated she would see what she could do for a small credit that she was already aware that there was a missing lamp and light bulb taken from a previous tenant. I decided not to stay a second night and checked out. This was on a Monday and today, Thursday I called because the adjustment for the two night stay $119.xx had not been adjusted, nor did the incidental fee of $75 not fallen off. Additionally, there was a NEW charge of $59.xx which was offset by a credit of $59.xx. I decided to call and spoke to the same representative I spoke to when I checked out. She told me right away I would not get credit for the first night since I had requested a top floor room. She also mentioned I could have packed up all of my things and move to another room. All this time she had cut me off in mid sentence as I was not so concerned with a small credit against $51 bucks, but that my bank was showing multiple charges. You see, representatives are very nice until you call them out on blatant unprofessionalism. She also stated in so many words that I was wrong and that they had not charged me a second time even though my bank account showed an additional charge. Overall, I should have known you get what you pay for. A $51 dollar room is just that, a $51 dollar room where "Special" requests from the patron are seen as going out of their way and then held against you if the room has issues. "Well you requested that room sir".... No, I didn't request a room with a vacuum cleaner, hold in the wall, trim missing around baseboards, stain on carpet, seat cushion missing, lamp shade and bulb missing and a tv that didn't work. Just a trashy, unkept hotel with a bit of an attitude behind the desk and multiple charges that you are held against your account that "Should fall off in about 7-10 days". Well I will wait to see if the adjustment of the $119 will correct to the one night stay of $59. I am not...
