Waffle House — Restaurant in Houston

I was in Texas in early April for a vacation and one of my bucket list food places was to finally visit a Waffle House. I have heard about them for so long, I knew I had to go and try it out. In fact, it was the first place I went after I landed in Houston and picked up my rental car.

This location was easy to get to and there was a lot of parking (where I am from parking is a big deal). The restaurant was quite busy when I was there for a late, Saturday breakfast, and was smaller than I had been expecting. I liked how the kitchen area was right out in the open. They had a lot of staff on hand and everyone I talked to was friendly. The service was fast and the food came out quickly.

I had the All Star Special breakfast platter. I found out later from a Waffle House expert friend, I should have ordered a special gravy-covered side dish but the grits I had were nice. The two eggs were cooked perfectly and were just how I ordered. The sausages were salty and tasty.

The real star of the breakfast was the waffle. It was the size of a dinner plate and was extra tasty when combined with their whipped butter and syrup. It was a golden brown, crispy waffle with a soft, chewy center.

The coffee was nice and strong. I was even offered a refill in a to-go cup without asking if that was possible. I had already had my fill but loved that they asked.

Overall, my first (and currently only) visit to a Waffle House was just what I had hoped for. A great plate of breakfast food, great service and a friendly, fun diner. I would go to another one if the opportunity came up.

Wow.... what a complete train wreck of an establishment.

No one washed their hands once after grabbing dirty dishes, sneezing or coughing into their hands and wiping it on their pants, touching our menus, money and then going and grabbing our plates and cups and silverware. All handling was unsanitary, they were holding our cups by the rim that we touch our mouths with and silverware by where we eat with... this wasnt just one of them... ALL OF THEM.

After we were sat, two other tables who were sat after us got their drinks AND food before we even got our order taken. The waitress took our drink order and hung out flirting, play fighting and giggling with the cooks instead of getting our beverages. Eventually we got our meals, literally one item at a time. Three plates of bacon came out and placed individually, two waffles placed down 5 minutes later and so on... except NONE of my food came out until everyone else was almost done.... Needless to say, she got my food order wrong. And there was black stuff in my apple juice as well as green stuff that looked like mold in my eggs.

I was with family and didnt want to make a big stink, but I hope to God i dont get sick tonight.

Horrible work ethic, ZERO management and if the health inspector came through there, they would be shut down immediately.

The woman said she was going to wait and take my children's order once I figured out what I was eating after I told her that I wasn't sure what I wanted and that she would be back. I told her the kids were hungry and to take their order now. She had an attitude after I told her this. Then the children order and my daughter orders the Tbone meal which comes with salad my daughter told her she didn't want the salad or toast in which she told her she had to take it. Told her she was not going to eat it the lady says well it comes with it and brings it anyway. This was our first time here. Never been to a Waffle House and first time in Texas. Then she brings the food in about 10 minutes go by and she still has not brought the waffle I had to call her over to ask her about it and then she says yeah waffle comes with it but it's not ready yet. The waitress Maria(white)Woman was a terrible host and did not make us feel welcomed at all. I will NEVER support this business. I I'm not sure if this is how they get down at every location but she has definitely ruined our experience. Plus the children did not care for the food.
