I’ve been staying at the Idyllwild Inn since I was a little girl. Back then, I would come with my mom and a friend, or my mom, dad and sister. I can remember delighting in the simple playground - a metal slide, seesaw, volleyball net, horseshoe and wood climbing structure. We would always go catch the movie that was playing at the Rustic Theater and gorge on the candy I excitedly purchased at the Candy Cupboard. I always wanted the pack of chocolate cigarettes, ha ha!||Fast forward 30 years and I recently returned for the first time since becoming a mom. Then, it was a perfect, laidback girls weekend full of wine and other fireside indulgences in our cozy cabin. ||The Idyllwild Inn has always been the perfect mountain getaway no matter the stage of life. This time, we brought our dog. While she enjoyed all the smells and lunging at squirrels, my toddler delighted in the same metal slide, seesaw and wood play structure - virtually unchanged since I was not much older than him.||Also virtually unchanged are the cabins. In a world where everything moves at light speed, what an absolute joy it is to slow down, battle it out in a family game of Chutes & Ladders (checked out from the front desk), and savor the simple sights and sounds of mountain nature, a hot cup of freshly brewed coffee, and local hospitality. The Idyllwild Inn has changed very little because it’s perfect the way it is.||We discovered our best-ever Idyllwild meal on this trip - the most perfect breakfast burritos, breakfast sandwiches and freshly baked donuts from Amelia’s Bakery Cafe, a short walk from our cabin. Read moreLoved it! Nice clean well maintained cabins. Lovely staff. We will definitely be back. Update: we came back for another visit almost 6 months later. It was still quaint and rustic without being dirty. The cabins are clean. We found a dead mouse underneath the kitchen sink but it's a cabin in the woods not the Hilton. No bugs or other creature issues, it's very clean. My major gripes are no paper towels or napkins???! We cook when we're here there is a stove and full kitchen in every cabin. But not providing foil, paper towels or napkins is really frustrating. We went to the grocery store bought lots of food and while cooking bacon and biscuits realized theres no foil or paper towels which is just annoying and for $100.00 a night you'd think they'd be provided. They do provide toilet paper and bath towels, plates, glasses, pots and pans and that's it. My 2nd gripe and tip is make sure you tell them exactly how many people is in your party. We had 2 adults 1 teenager and 1 child so 4 all together. My teenager is as big as my husband and they put us in a very small 1 bedroom cabin with no microwave and a twin bed with a trundle cot under it in the already small livingroom!...my sons feet hung off of the twin. We asked to move to have a more comfortable stay we were charged more money! We asked for a specific cabin originally as no was told it wasn't available...it sat empty the whole time. Not a fan of being charged more money when we told them to begin that we had 4 people in our party and we were put in a 1 bedroom. I love it in idyllwild, the people are nice and the beautiful spirit of the town and majestic scenery can't be beat, and we will be back we may or may not stay here again...but a few small details could make for a more enjoyable comfortable stay. Just remember to bring the basics youll need to cook with like napkins, paper towels and foil because those are...
