This was the worst hotel experience I have ever had in my life. Where to start? My wife and I were moving from Wisconsin to Virginia and needed a place to stop about half way that was also pet friendly (we have two dogs and two cats). We were excited when we found this place and made reservations weeks in advance. When we arrived, after over 10 hours on the road, we pulled up the very steep hill to find the parking lot filled entirely by patrons of the loud, obnoxious bar next door. We checked in with an EXTREMELY rude and unfriendly woman named Jamie (I think, it definitely started with a J) and then tried to get ourselves and the animals settled in quickly so we could grab some dinner.
No such luck. Since there was absolutely nowhere out front to park our car and U-Haul, we had to get creative, and noticed there was ample parking in the back of the hotel, which also provided great line-of-sight from our hotel room so we could keep an eye on our U-Haul, which possessed every single belonging we owned. At this point, Jamie was now outside smoking and informed us that they do not accommodate parking for large trucks and that we needed to park the U-Haul over by a dimly lit dumpster, completely out of sight from our hotel room and surrounded by broken down vehicles. Now, to be clear, there were DOZENS of parking spots open in the back and other large trucks and service vehicles taking up multiple spaces. Not only that, but it ultimately seemed that the hotel was more concerned about making sure the bar goers next door had enough parking. Biggest problem, Jamie admitted that their website still showed that they are able to provide parking for larger vehicles and that they just hadn't gotten around to changing it yet. BLAH BLAH BLAH. So, we park the U-Haul in the dark corner and try to get settled. RING RING. It's Jamie calling from the front desk. She forgot to have us complete some paperwork. So we get to walk down again, leave our animals unattended, and sign our names a few more times. Finally, we think. We're done. Let's take the dogs out to use the bathroom and then go get dinner. NOPE! Know why? Because there is not a single blade of grass anywhere in sight at this "pet friendly hotel." Based on the state of the rooms we stayed in, pet friendly to them basically means let your animals relieve themselves on our carpet. We had to walk a hundred yards uphill and on to the property of other nearby hotels just to find some grass. In the end, neither of us got much sleep because we were both so worried our U-Haul was going to be broken into, which is not at all what we were hoping for considering we had another 10+ hour day of driving ahead of us.
The next morning, despite all of the frustrations of the night before, I greeted a member of the cleaning staff in the hall with a good morning. I was met with an unfriendly stare. Then, upon checking out the woman at the desk didn't even bother to ask how our stay was, and instead just took our keycards and said "You're all set." Which is probably for the best, because if she had asked it would've opened up a floodgate of complaints. La Quinta needs to send their staff to some courses on basic manners and customer service, and needs to start prioritizing their customers over the bar patrons, as it is my guess that they're getting some kind of compensation from the bar to let them use their parking lot. We know this for a fact because when we got up in the middle of the night to check on our U-Haul, the front parking lot had cleared out to about 50%, with several spots that we could have parked our vehicles. Ironically, my dad was staying at a La Quinta in another state that same night, and when I told him about this whole mess he took a picture of their parking lot, which had at least 4 U-Hauls and large trucks just in the part of the lot he captured, and stated there were several others.
Seriously. This place sucks. If you have animals and/or are planning a move with a large vehicle in tow, avoid this place...

The woman at the desk was welcoming enough. She made the check in process super quick and easy. This is about where my positive experience ends at this location.
The elevator seems to be from the late '80s or early '90s and I only used it once. It made me feel as though it was going to break down at any moment and or I was going to be stuck in it. It made the loudest squeals and banging noise when it reached the floor. The door closed extremely slowly and at one point stopped moving halfway through the clothes. I'm really not sure how they can get away with having an elevator that is this out of date.
The hallways felt humid and had a musty smell to them. Since these are common areas, I did not think much of it initially. When I got into the room it smelled horribly of cigarettes even though I was told it was a non-smoking room. I went to turn on the air to try and filter some of the smell out and the curtains were completely torn and filthy. The desk next to the window had stains in the chair. Looks like it had never been cleaned. The air conditioner, however, did work and kind of helped the smell.
All of the furniture within the unit was pretty dated and had broken corners, sides and surfaces. The clock was absolutely filthy and looked like it had been dropped. Thankfully the linens seemed to be the only things that were actually cleaned in the room.
The bathroom is where things get bad. There was definitely mold or something in the corners of the tub, meaning it had never been thoroughly cleaned. The fan squealed and seems as though it had never been maintained. Water pressure was okay and the hot water was fine as well. The toilet did not flush very well and multiple times I had to go back and hold the handle for 10 to 15 seconds to get a full flush. Again, thankfully the towels seemed clean.
Being that I did not use the elevator because it was questionable, I started to use the stairs. They were back stairs to the lobby and side stairs to a side door that went outside. The back stairs to the lobby were in a stairwell that smelled extremely moldy/ mildewy and the rug itself almost felt damp under my shoes. This area was disgusting. Besides, stairs to the outside were okay. But just okay.
This is all extremely disappointing as the location of this hotel is great. You're close to the highway and there are plenty of shopping and restaurants just outside. I was just passing through but if I'm ever in the area again I will absolutely not stay here. Wyndham should be ashamed that they've not put any time into updating or renovating...
Read moreLa Quinta CLE review My wife and I checked in for a business trip for 1 week. At check in, we stood in the lobby with a crowd of people for 45 minutes waiting for someone to return to the front desk from “lunch” at 3:00 pm. Taking their lunch conveniently at Check-In time. We get to our room and our keys did not work. In fact, we needed to program our keys daily. Which was incredibly frustrating carrying our things to our room, then back to the lobby, then back to our room constantly. Our room contained dirty towels from the previous occupants and smelled like smoke. The smell of smoke constantly getting stronger and weaker. We weren’t sure if it was coming from management smoking outside our window or from a room adjacent to us. I purchased Clorox bathroom cleaner so that we could kill the active mold and mildew growth before showering. Among the amenities listed at check-in, only half are actually available: no washer dryer, no consoles, no cleaning/disinfecting, no contactless areas or barriers between staff, no restaurant, no lounge/bar, no fitness center, no alarm clock, not a non-smoking facility, and I needed to google the Microwave in order to clear the error code. We paid for a late check out so that we could shower after work and before we travel. The management knocked on our door and woke up my sleeping wife for her to check out (entering our room while she slept). An hour later, the maid comes knocking, making me wonder exactly what the extra fee is for when you pay for late check out since they hound you the entire time. Management blamed my wife for not latching the door lock while she slept, preventing me from entering when I returned. So the fee didn’t prevent a door key from unlocking my door during my time of use. If I could give this hotel Zero...
