Winking Lizard Independence — Restaurant in Independence

If I could give zero stars I would. This place is absolutely terrible. I went out tonight with my brothers, celebrating one belated birthday. From the moment we walked in the Managment was plain ignorant. They immediately singled us out and ID’d us at the door but the person before did not get ID’d. I am 25 years old and pregnant so I didn’t have my ID on me. My brothers who are younger (22 and 21) had their ID on them and had no problem showing it. The one older manager tried to embarrass my one brother saying “Well glad we checked Happy bday you just turned 21” when actually it was for my 22 year old brother. If she would’ve taken the time to see that 2024 - 2002 = 22 years old she wouldn’t have had to been so ignorant. She proceeded to say how we weren’t gonna have alcohol at our table which we didn’t plan on doing anyways, just eating. It seemed as if she was trying to make an example of us because we are young. We are then sat at around 8:30 p.m. and our waitress was nice to start off with. I noticed a lot of the servers there had nasty attitudes to them so I was glad to have what I thought was a nice one. We got our order in at about 9 p.m. then she got a huge party at 9:20 after we got our order in which I understand as a server is hard. This party sat directly in front of us. The food didn’t come out til 9:40 p.m., and was freezing cold. I proceeded to become impatient around 9:50 p.m. as she didn’t bring out our food or check on us not once while attending to the party in front of us the entire time. I finally asked another server to get our bill which took another 10 mins while having my card up in their possession. Our original server walked back over with my card and then asked us if we wanted boxes and said she had a family emergency even though she had just been in front of us asking the party table if they needed more drinks less than five mins prior to that. I don’t doubt she had a emergency maybe, but you could’ve stopped at our table after handing out drinks to check on us which you didn’t for almost an hour. Overall experience was the most mediocre place I’ve ever been to and the most underwhelming ignorant staff I’ve ever experienced in my life. I’ve been serving for 7 years and if I had treated people the way my brothers and I were treated tonight I would’ve been fired on the spot....

Went here with a group of 8 the other night (11/25/22). I called ahead since I knew we were a larger group just to make sure everything was okay as we didn’t want to disrupt anything. The woman on the phone said we would be fine to come in but they didn’t take call aheads. Totally fine, so we decided to head in.

The same woman who I spoke to on the phone was up at the hostess stand when we got there. Instead of being greeted, we were told to get our IDs out as nobody under 21 could be there after 5pm (there were also signs everywhere staying this). Totally fine, except someone in our group of 30 year olds had forgotten their wallet at home. They offered to just not drink as they’re clearly old enough to be there but this woman basically told us we needed to drive another half hour back home and to the restaurant if we wanted to be seated. He was nice enough about it since he didn’t have his ID and ended up going back home to grab it. The rest of our group sat up front waiting for our table and no joke, not a single person who walked in to be seated after us was even asked for their ID. In fact, several very young children were seated. We saw even more children already seated in the restaurant after we got our table.

The people who ran back to grab their ID got back a few minutes after we were seated and it took the waitress a while to get back to us. We were super understanding as it was dinner time and we were a large group. We put in orders for appetizers and food which all came out together maybe 45 minutes later. We were still super understanding since our waitress was nice, but that older woman at the front was incredibly rude about the IDs. I would have been more understanding had I not watched her sit everyone else, INCLUDING children while we waited for the person to drive all the way home and back just to be sat at a table with a clear view of all the other clearly underaged kids and babies who somehow got a pass to be there. Never any parking ever. 2 hosts are super rude always 30 min wait no big deal as we love the food and our son loves claw machines so we waited. When we were called to a table our host spirited to a table didn't ask if we wanted a kids menu for our child (2 year old) did not offer a booster seat or highchair so I went looking for one of those. I found one and brought it to the table and got my baby all set up ready to order. We then wait forever for our terrible waiter to come over to get drink orders since we waited so long to get our drinks in, we told him we were ready to order he told us to wait and he would be right back TWENTY-FIVE MINUTES later he came back to put our food in mind you he wasn't filling our drinks either and had a terrible attitude the whole time. Then, after we put our food in another half hour goes by and I catch him and ask about our food just because it's hard to keep a 2 year old sitting this long. He goes into the kitchen 5 min later, brings out my wifes and sons food, and tells me mine isn't done. 5 more minutes go by, and a lady comes out of the kitchen to tell me that the waiter put my order in wrong and they are going to put my wings in now. I told them not to as I would not have time to eat them because, again, I had to get the kid home. They seemed shocked that I didn't want to wait even longer. The older bearded waiter never came back to the table to apologize or say anything but was laughing it up with the table next to us. I had to literally flag him down for the check.
