Just checked out this morning after 7 nights here. We stayed in a 1 bedroom condo, my daughter, her husband, me, and my 5 year old grandson. We had plenty of room and the condo had everything you need. The staff is so friendly and you you get a cooler, beach toys, chairs, umbrella FREE! You can also rent snorkel gear abd the office has lots of games and movies you can borrow. We stayed in unit 709 and the view of the mountains and all the vegetation was spectacular. We loved all the birds that visited our balcony every morning and the little cats on the property are adorable. We would highly reccommend this vacation rental, close to stores and restaraunts.

I had one of the cottages here for three nights and it was huge. there were just two of us but the cottage could have accommodated 4 - given that there are two separate bedrooms with adjoining (not shared) bathrooms and dressing areas. The kitchen was very well equipped and the dining area and living area were enormous. There is also a very spacious balcony with patio furniture where you can chill while looking at the golf course. The hotel front desk also lends out a wide range of beach gear like mats, chairs, umbrellas, coolers etc. Pretty competitive pricing considering how expensive accommodation can be on this island.

Loved staying here, rooms were very clean and access to everything was very convenient (especially to the Foodland, which we frequented a lot). The view was amazing, loved sitting out on the balcony every morning and looking at the mountains before starting our day. Yes, the chickens are loud and will probably wake you but that’s just the nature of staying in Kauai in general. The pool and hot tub were great, especially after a long day of hiking. Also, having a washer and dryer were great, allowed us to pack less for the trip knowing we had that option. Definitely recommend!

(After my review the Resort left me a message bellow, I callled and the guy had no clue why I called, they didnt want to resolve anything.) I HATE to leave negative reviews... especially when I read negative reviews and the problems I read were bugs, no ac and chckens... it's Kauai, I expect all of those things. First let me start by saying the cottages were amazing. They were very clean and came with everything you could possibly need and not bring. You have an entire stocked kitchen, minus food, but there's a Foodland right around the corner. Plenty of towels and pillows, everything you need. The pool isn't big and there is only one hot tub, but that's not why I came. First, I love being woken up at first light by the chickens and nature. It helps reset your clock and get your days back in order. Second, bugs live in nature, there's no ac, doors open, they come in. So, none of those complaints are valid to me. So 8 out of my 10 days I spent there I would rate a 5 star. However, we had a late flight out (9:45pm) so from day one, I was asking about a late check-out. I was told it shouldn't be a problem drom day one, "just make sure you remind me and come to the office to confirm the day before" is what the desk nanager said. So 2 days before check-out, I speak with the manager, she tells me it's all good and I can check out late, at 6pm. She said just come by in the morning to pay. So the next morning I came down at 9am, they open at 8:30. I spoke with the woman behind the counter, and she said there was a note in their system to set me up with late check out. She told me it was $100, I was a little shocked at the price, but we needed a place to come back to after our day so we could shower and relax before the flight. So I paid, and they reprogrammed our key cards. About 3 hours later I got a call from the manager of the front desk telling me that I couldn't check out late, she didn't approve it and I needed to be out by 10 the next day. My wife tried to handle the call but couldn't get a word in edge wise. She kept trying to explain the situation until she was in tears. which is kinda funny because I was the one at the Dr having a wound cleaned. So I had to ask the Dr to stop in the middle of what he was doing to talk to this manager and explain that we already paid, had a receipt, the money had been taken out of our accounts and our keys had been reprogrammed. She still insisted we could not stay late, that's when the Dr who had over heard the entire call said, "just ask for her name and the number to owner" I repeated what he said. She stopped and got quiet and asked if we only needed the room for showers before the flight. I told her no, we would need access to it until we left for the airport around 5:30. Right after I said that she said "make sure you are out of the room by 5:30 so we can get it cleaned. Then she's said good bye, didn't wait for a responce and hung up. So overall I would say most people myself included would love the cottages if you're looking for something like home with a kitchen in the more upscale area of Kauai. Be aware of bugs, and sounds, and chickens, bring a sound machine. But don't count on them to honor anything that you didn't book before you got there. It really ruined my opinion of where we stayed, by day 5 I had already written a glowing review with photos ready to post. After the traumatizing experience my wife went through I think we will be looking for a different place to stay next year. On a side note, the rest of the staff was great and the people were Great, and our room...

I booked this stay through airbnb. Although our host Desi was wonderful, I do not recommend staying at the Makai Resort. The morning of our check-in I requested to see if my family could check in a littler earlier than 4pm just to drop off items from our overstuffed rental car. I gave the receptionist at the resort my name and information only to discover that the resort did not even have our reservation! The receptionist seemed baffled and sure that there was no one under my name checking in. I insisted that I had a reservation and gave her my confirmation code. The woman told me that it was not possible I had a room there because they did not even have anyone checking for a 2 bedroom condo that I had booked. Of course my heart dropped and I spent most the morning of our vacation emailing the resort information and waiting for them to figure out our reservation. It was stressful and the staff at Makai were not accommodating or sympathetic to our situation. Eventually the manager named Jake called to inform me that they could "accommodate" my reservation today but that I could not check in early, in fact they did not even know WHEN I could check in that day at all! No time estimate, no sorry this is happening, just that the room would be ready past 4pm. This whole situation made it difficult to enjoy the first day of our vacation because our groceries were melting in the car and we had no where to drop anything off until 7pm that night when they finally had the room ready. The manager even went as far to say the situation was my fault for not calling Club Wyndham to follow up on our reservation. This place was extremely expensive and to not even have our room ready for the first full day was very frustrating. The condo was nice and clean but they have hundreds of roosters rooming around the villas that start crowing at 4 am until dawn. Hot tub is small and always taken, didn't get to enjoy any of the amenities. Take your...

Fabulous customer service!!! Priscilla is a 5 Star Super Star Customer Service Agent!!! Priscilla managed my accommodations with extreme efficiency, easy-peasy for me…and super friendly…and she is super groovy and the best smile ever!!! I am physically disabled and I have difficulty walking and limitations, but both Priscilla and Jackie were so extremely friendly, helpful and had such genuine concern for my comfort, accessibility and safest walking routes, that I literally felt as if I had 2 Angels looking out for me at all times. The gentleman who works the NightShift was also extremely helpful, and kind, that he even came out to my car, so I didn’t have to walk into the office. They entire staff is extremely professional, while also showing what true Aloha Spirit really is! My condo was sparkling clean, and was so meticulously cared for and was displayed like a showroom! I’m not usually impressed by the way a condo is staged for a guests arrival, but it’s the little things that were so impressive…the role of paper towels had the first sheet made into an origami fish! The bedding had a towel folded into a large flower and draped across the foot of the bed. The view was spectacular…but I have to admit I told my friends more about that perfect origami fish and the towel flower than I did the view of the gorgeous mountains…and they were just as impressed as I was. It’s the little special touches, smiles and friendliness of the entire staff that made my stay Super 5 Star Rating…the view is the view…but the personable and friendly staff really are what made my stay the best...
