Read moreAll things considered; this was a very underwhelming experience. Do not let the name "Resort" fool you. This is an ordinary hotel, with a pool, a nice location by the marina, but with no special features at all. The worst thing was the price paid - $350 a night for the experiences listed below is WAY TOO MUCH! It would be worth $150 in my view.
The room is small. Very small. Two small (queen?) beds, that is it. It is also old, with outdated windows, tub, shower, broken blinds, everything. It needs a remodel, pronto. The blinds are cheap Home Depot things, and the room gets really bright really early so you can't really sleep in at all if you want to.
The WiFi did not work at all in our 3 nights there. When I called the first time, they said it was the AT&T outage that day. The next time I called, the lady told me that their infrastructure (routers, modems) is too old and that it doesn't work well EVER, and they are supposedly replacing it... I would be able to do no work at all, if I didn't have my T-Mobile hotspot. If you don't have a hot spot, or if you bring your cell phone from other countries, and can't use a ton of data, you are screwed.
The breakfast is a little better than at a Hampton Inn or La Quinta - meaning, not great at all... The same yogurt/pre-packaged sandwiches/cereal combination, but without the hot DIY pancakes, or fresh fruit. NOT AT ALL a "resort" breakfast.
The second night, my mattress collapsed and had to be replaced - which they did, quickly.
Parking - you do not have a reserved spot. You park wherever you can find a spot, and compete with people parking for the restaurant next door. If there is no space available near your room, you go park at the "sister property" which is a Holiday Inn next door, and walk back with whatever you are carrying.
You can use the facilities at said "sister property" which include a better pool and jacuzzi, better gym, and a poolside bar. The catch - every time you want to get in the pool, you have to stop by the front desk at the Holiday Inn and ask for a card, which you then have to return to the front desk IN PERSON to the attendant - no drop off box, nothing. It made me feel like I was sneaking in, not that I was welcome. Why couldn't they make your Marina Del Mar keychain work in the Holiday Inn locks, if they are sister properties???
Did I say I paid THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS A NIGHT for...
First off I planned a cpl day trip for my twin girls who's birthday was the next day. It was supposed to be special, but turned into a total circus! After driving 6 hrs from central Florida, I call when I was about an hr away and asked if I could do early check in at 3 instead of 4. The lady said she didn't have any rooms yet, but probably would by 3. When you pull in there is NO WHERE to park and I mean no where, every space is taken but, since there are very few spaces for how big this place is, they make you park down the road in a restaurant parking lot! I went into lobby where I was not greeted by Angie at all because she was too busy on her phone showing pictures to her co workers and they had to tell her someone was at the front desk. Angie then checked me in, but told me no rooms were ready still and she'd call by 330 to let me know. No phone call from Angie, so after see several people check in, at 4 I walked back to lobby. Angie then said she still didn't have a room for me, I then told her she needed to find one quickly because it's now check in time! After proceeding to room 110, the first thing I noticed was how run down this hotel has become, including a window with no lock. No screens, so anyone is welcome to jump through your window. Well, that was the last straw, I went back to the lobby to Angie telling me she's the only one there and she has no manager to contact. I then said I do not want the room and I'm going to find clean, friendly accommodations. Angie was then able to miraculously contact a manager. To whom it concern, Angie is a BIG reason why I gave a 1 star. There's nothing more disturbing than spending HUNDREDS of dollars to have a pleasant stay but staff makes it the exact opposite. Also with young children it is NOT SAFE to have to walk from down the road with no sidewalk at night at that just to park. The rooms are not updated at all. So much is covered up with paint and screwing windows shut that don't have locks, HUGE safety concern as well! I was blessed to get BEAUTIFUL accommodations...
