It was a beautiful day in Key Largo on March 28 so we decided to do a boat trip. Parking was easy, short walk to the Princess but I wouldn't recommend trying the walk in a wheelchair nor if you have bad knees or bad back. I am not a doctor but I suffer from pain in both areas and this trip was very rough on me. The stairs to the top deck were awful for me to get up to; same with coming back down the stairs. One of the crew members was very kind to help me down. Other than that, I loved it. I was fortunate to find a seat in the back.
The ride out to the Reef was great! We passed the beautiful waterfront homes with their boats on display, the canals, the Tiki huts, the birds flying over us and finally we reached the Reef. Please bring a hat and sunscreen as it gets very hot out on the ocean! You can get drinks on board. Passengers were doing that and milling about. Note: no one was wearing a mask nor was social distancing observed on the boat. We practiced our own safety rules as much as possible. We did not catch covid.
We did not see any sea life but we saw the limestone reefs. It was so beautiful out there and we would do this trip again. The crew was great! Bringing a hat next time and...
Read moreWe made a reservation for 3 for The Key Largo Princess Glass Bottom Boat for my mother’s 84th birthday, which you board at The Holiday Inn docking area. We informed the reservationist that it was her birthday and she told us to inform Jeff one of the shipmates that it was her birthday, so we did. He Immediately asked if she had a favorite drink, which she did Virgin Pina coladas. In no time at all Jeff returned with a souvenir glass which held her piña colada well you can imagine the look on my mom‘s face of contentment. We then were able to take a picture of Jeff with mom. Jeff also told me that later on he would recognize her birthday and sing it to her with the rest of the people on board. My mom was so happy, from the moment the boat took off, she had a smile. We reached our destination to view the reef and see the many fish. That is when the speaker recognized mom and everyone on board sang to mom. It was a pleasant experience for us all. You see mom has a fear of water and boats, but on this ride which was smooth and started out with joy for her, well it took away her fear. You must try the experience for yourself. Book your ride...
Read more5 stars for the staff & boat. They were very professional & boat was clean & not too crowded. We are landlubbers from the Midwest, so for us the boat ride to the reef and back was a great opportunity to get out on the water.
3 stars for the glass bottom boat experience. I was disappointed by what we could see. The view through the glass is monochrome- a nice green/blue but still everything looks the same. Also, lots of bubbles run along the glass bottom, obscuring the view at times.
Be aware that your experience will change with the weather. And since you really need to book ahead in busy season, you can’t pick the best weather day. We went on a clear but windy day. When we got to the reef, the bottom of the ocean rolled back and forth through the glass as the boat rocked in the waves. I don’t normally get sea sick, but not only did the rolling keep me from seeing details and marine life on the reef, but it had me feeling a tiny bit nauseous, too. I couldn’t look for long. Not the companies fault by any means, but b/c of that I probably wouldn’t choose a glass bottom...
