This property is well hidden behind ornate wooden doors - you'd miss it if you didn't know where to look. We loved staying in the Green Cottage - the cottages are adorable and provide way more space than a hotel room. We enjoyed having the living room as well as the kitchen (two burners, microwave and toaster oven plus full-size refrigerator - not a "full" kitchen in the American style but plenty adequate for simple meals and adequately stocked with dishes, pots/pans and utensils). The Green cottage has an especially big and very private patio, including gas grill. Great shower, hot water, and water pressure. We found the cottage to be very clean and comfortable in every way - including heat, (a.c. available, not that we needed it in April), ceiling fans, fans, extra heater, gas fireplace, plenty of blankets and towels, etc. Convenient location: we walked to and around town. A couple things to be aware of: the property could present issues for people with mobility impairments. Behind the wooden doors you immediately go down a set of wide stone steps. it was a little disconcerting at first, and I shimmied over to hold on to the handrails. There's a back entrance you can use (but you can't park there) if you want to avoid the long stone steps. I totally got used to the steps, but keep in mind you have to be able to cart your suitcase up and down them unless you use the back entrance. Parking is a little tight and on a bit of a steep incline, so you have to get used to that. The cottages are old (from the 20's or 30's?) and they are unbelievably charming and a part of Laguna Beach history. This is a big part of their appeal. But if what you want are totally modern accommodations and you'd be put off by a couple damaged kitchen floor tiles or "shabby chic" style, for example, you'd be better off at a modern hotel. That being said, I can't overstate the charm and comfort of the cottage. In addition, we loved the grounds (there's also seating in a central and rear courtyard area, including a large table and chairs), the privacy and the quiet. It truly felt like an enchanted hidden oasis. Note: the proprietors are not overly communicative - you'll be given a code the day before and left to yourself, which was...
Read moreWonderful place to stay! Sean was so helpful and easy to work with. We stayed in the green cottage for 3 nights to celebrate our anniversary. We can’t wait to stay here again and try another cottage.
The minute we stepped foot through the top gate, we were embraced by gardens and the cottages captivating architecture, transporting us straight into a historic village of Europe.
The cottage a separate living room, dining area, kitchen, master bedroom and full bath. The king size bed was comfortable and the closet offered ample storage space so we could keep everything neat and tidy. The water pressure was amazing, it became hot almost immediately and made you feel like you were at home.
One evening, we decided to fire up the grill and it worked perfectly. As for the gas fireplace, it added a touch of old-world charm to our romantic evenings. Also, the cottages have lights on the outside, which light up the pathways just enough.
Location was lovely, tucked into a nice neighborhood, just far enough away from the hustle of the main beach and downtown area, but close enough to get there with an easy walk. The gated entrance at the top where we parked our car and the secure gate down the back that led us into town were both locked with a code. Knowing we were well-protected gave us peace of mind during our entire stay.
They also provided beach chairs and umbrella! We couldn't resist lounging by the mesmerizing waves, basking in the sun, and simply enjoying the serene beach life. It truly completed our Laguna Beach experience!
Thank you, Manzanita Cottage, for creating the perfect backdrop for our anniversary celebration. We'll forever cherish the memories made in this oasis of tranquility. Can't wait for our next adventure back to...
Read moreNot happy with the fact that no where on the site does it say it has stairs to get into the property 😞 Have issues with my knees and they kind of gave out on me the week before. Plus they have a 30 day prior to arrival cancellation policy. So there was no way we're going to lose all of our money.
Disappointed that the property wasn't even well lit for guests especially new guests such as myself, to be able to see where to step. I almost tripped and fell. The lights around the well we're not on. Had to text "Neil" telling him it's dark almost tripped. He didn't apologize but said no one's complained about that. I told him we are new and it's time change it gets dark earlier. Duh! Very unfortunate. 2 days later twinkly lights were put up. Neighbors that were there were loud with their music after hours, didn't follow the rules.😶
Plus there is a ghost there. Every night we heard something being dropped in our living room, then one night I felt "something" crawling over the covers by my feet. I jumped and screamed, nothing there. Then another night my husband pulled covers over him and "something" pulled the covers off of him.
Putting those unfortunate things aside this place can be relaxing. Very doubtful about...
