We have stayed in a large number of B&B's over the years and the Scandinavian is right at the top of our list. Peter and Vicki are extremely gracious hosts and the house is beautiful and well-kept. The breakfasts are large and of amazing quality. In most cities, you would easily pay $20 each just for the breakfasts that are included with your lodging. In fact, we ended up not eating lunches any of the 4 days we were in Lanesboro because the breakfasts were so filling. Vicki thoughtfully provided a small paper box for leftovers that we used for the extra muffins or gingerbread or scones that we did not eat at breakfast - great for an afternoon snack to tide us over until dinner. So, really a money and time saver!
All of this would be true anytime at the Scandinavian. During Covid, they shine even more. They are following similar protocols as others with disinfecting everything thoroughly and having a 1 day gap between guests for any given room. One very innovative thing they did was to take the 5 guest rooms they usually have (along with their common rooms) and turn all of that into just 3 guest rooms, each with a couple of adjacent rooms that are private to a single guest room. Essentially, each guest room becomes a 3-room suite: a bedroom, a sitting room, and a dining area. The breakfasts are served to you privately in your dining space: they brought the food up and set it all up on the table and then let you know it is ready, so no extra contact. Also, they always wore masks and required their guests to wear masks as well while using the common entrance and stairs of the house. In your suite, you don't need the masks, of course.
This was the first time we had traveled since Covid started and we were a little apprehensive, but the thoughtful and careful approach Peter and Vicki took really put us at ease. If you are looking for a great place to stay, even during Covid - this is it. A...
Read moreMy husband and I, along with 3 other couples traveled to this area to bicycle the Root River Trail. We like to stay at bed and breakfast inns when we travel. The Scandinavian Inn did not disappoint! The owner and his wife were very friendly and accommodating. They had space for our bicycles in their garage. Peter cooked the most delicious breakfasts! There were always something from his garden. His wife Vickie, who still works, made the breads and muffins fresh every morning before she left for work. He always sent us out the door with the leftover breads and muffins! Great mid ride snack! Peter brought coffee up each morning before breakfast, leaving it in a common area outside our rooms. He also left a paper listing that day's hourly weather and any closures on the Root River Trail for that day. That way, we could pick an alternate route to bike if necessary. He was helpful with recommendations for restaurants and the local theater, The Commonweel, where we saw a local community play. The only slight negative we experienced were the towels. While Peter and Vickie are very conscious of the environment, and that is a good thing, the bath linens were often dried outside on the clothesline. This made for some very rough towels. I highly recommend the Scandinavian Inn. You will not be...
Read moreThis trip was one of the best trips I have been on in a while! Was such a break from my usual stressful week. There was beautiful and tasteful homemade breakfasts (pictures availible) as well as access to our own outdoor seating.
It was nice to have a eating area with a fridge and cold water. The bathroom connected to our room was well sized and didnt feel cramped like a usual hotel room. staying at this bed and breakfast felt like a real home and I would recommend it to anyone staying in lanesboro. Since lanesboro is very biking focused, it is super helpful that they have bike storage available so you dont have to worry about keeping them on your car.
A lot of the reviews I have seen here are by parents or older couples. My boyfriend and I are college students and it was more amazing than I could have expected. This bed and breakfast would be wonderful for any type of person, even to go by yourself. I hope if you choose to stay here you have a wonderful time.
ps: the pictures of the rooms on their website are exactly what you are getting for the...
