This review is mostly specifically about our suite
Outside inn amenities and location: 5/5 (Though there’s no bad location in lanesboro bc it’s so small). Loved the patios and shaded Adirondacks. There’s also a grill and fire pit we didn’t use. Really enjoyed the little touches (pastries, concession, guides, etc).
Value for money: for our experience in our suite, it felt pretty overpriced for our particular suite experience. I could see the other suites possibly being better since the structure was prob different (see below).
Would I recommend (see suite review below): yes and no. The grounds are beautiful and I’d def recommend staying in a diff suite. We enjoyed our stay overall. I would not recommend this suite in its current state because of the dampness smell and humidity. If that’s fixed I would def recommend it to most people but not to light sleepers or families with infants bc of the pipes and light.
Our suite (Chosen Valley): 2.5-3/5
Pros: location. It’s right off the sidewalk but high enough no one can see in. This was super convenient traveling with a baby and just generally for going in and out during the day ease of check-in. We stayed at a similar place in Estes Park, CO in terms of no office and self check-in, and we find it really convenient private patio — lovely. The best part. Loved that it has a table and chairs AND Adirondacks. The evening lighting was pretty too! Kitchenette was convenient and the suite is a nice size Clean bed. Great water pressure. Nice bathroom High ceilings Big windows and bright Pastry tokens/available pastries in commons area Stil pretty quiet even though it’s close to the sidewalk
Cons: I want to preface this by saying we’re not super picky and are quite flexible (see our other reviews!). there are nice high ceilings but there are exposed pipes and when someone flushes (or something), water rushed down it loudly. It woke us up a few times and also woke up our infant daughter, which was rough The room was extremely humid and smelled super damp. Some corners smelled more strongly of dampness/mildew. It needs a dehumidifier badly. The room was clean and nicely organized, but the carpets felt particularly dirty—almost damp. And i know hotel carpets in general are not something you wanna be rolling around in, so I’m saying this with that in mind. I’m not saying the carpets need to be washed between every visit, but it wouldn’t hurt right now. It could also just be the humidity of the room that made them feel that way. The big windows and brightness are a con in addition to a pro because even though there are blinds, above the blinds are more windows that you can’t cover. And the bed is in a separate section but the walls around it don’t hit the ceiling, so it never truly gets dark, esp w street lights. And in the summer it gets dark so late the suite stays really bright for a while. With an infant, this made it particularly hard for her to sleep. We could get her down but it was harder for her to self-soothe back down. But also if you struggle with sleep overall or prefer darkness, I could see this being an issue
So, honestly up to you. Id say go for it—just book a different suite. It was a good stay but we didn’t feel the value matched the experience. Our suite was slightly below expectation—and not because of design. Just some of the fundamental stuff we...
Read moreWe had such a great experience at Root River Inn and Suites! Ryan, the new owner, was so personable and helpful and we felt like he was part of the family by the time we left. He had a great suggestion for dinner and invited us to "open mic" night to watch him sing. The inn is clean and welcoming and very comfortable. The pasties from the local pastry shop were a great touch. We can't wait to go back!
We just returned to root River Inn and Suites for our 3rd time. It is our go to place to stay whenever we are in Lanesboro. Once again, it did not disappoint us. We stayed in a suite which was very convenient to have a place for our friends to gather after biking. It was fun to see all the upgrades in the rooms since we were there last. They really have done a nice job and have continued to put customers first! Having the locked bike room is so nice! Once again Ryan, the owner greeted us and made us feel so welcome. We already have our fall trip planned and will stay at this Inn for sure.
September 2024 Back again for our yearly bike trip. This time we brought some new friends with us to the Inn and they were so impressed! All of the nice touches and beautiful woodworking and furniture courtesy of our host, Allie were so impressive. We loved going to their coffee shop, Paddle On, and once again we enjoyed renting the suites so we could use the upper level deck for our group. Looking out at the beautiful view of the grounds was wonderful. We also appreciated the invitation from our hosts to join them for S’mores. Every time we come we hear about more improvements they have made to the inn to make their guests have the best experience possible! We highly recommend Root River...
Read moreMy husband and I have been coming to Lanesboro for many years and got to be good friends with the previous owners (Jim and Pam) of the Root River Inn (Brewster's Red Hotel), so when I scheduled a girls trip to Lanesboro and was told the new owners would be taking over the day before our arrival and we would be their first guests, I was a little nervous. Well, my nerves were calmed the minute we met Allie and Ryan! They were wonderful hosts during our stay! They have made some wonderful updates to a couple of the rooms and added a few little surprises such as pastries in the morning along with our coffee and an afternoon treat of homemade truffles and iced coffee! Our rooms were very clean with comfortable beds. We enjoyed sitting in the yard in the evenings with a glass of wine and taking in all the wonderful landscaping. It was a very relaxing girls getaway. I highly recommend the Root River Inn! You won't be disappointed!! My husband and I plan to visit again in the fall to do...
