We had made our reservation a couple of weeks in advance online and had prepaid for our handicapped accessible room. I had called the evening before our visit to ask if we could have an early check-in and was told that notes would be left on our reservation, but was asked to please call back in the morning and confirm. The morning of our trip (yesterday), I again called the hotel about the early check-in, approximately 1:00-1:30 and was placed on hold so they could consult with the housekeeping staff. I was told that this would not be a problem, but could I call back again later. Unfortunately, in Nebraska, the phone service was next to nothing and I couldn't make an additional phone call until we were about to the hotel...so we just went ahead and went there. There were two people ahead of us in line who asked if it was too early to check in, obviously not having asked for an early check-in. They both were checked in with no problems.
Our turn, after a 20 minute wait due to the two customers ahead of us...the desk clerk remembered our phone conversation from earlier that day; and I explained that we weren't able to make a call until we were about 10-15 minutes away, so we just came. She took all of our information/credit card for incidentals and went to check to verify that our room was ready. It was NOT ready and we were unable to check in. We had our granddaughter's birthday party to attend at 2:00, which is why we requested the early check-in... to get refreshed briefly before heading to the dreaded Chuck E. Cheese. We weren't sure how long we'd be gone, because we wanted to spend time with our daughter and granddaughter and planned on dinner after the party and park.
We returned to the hotel at 10:00 PM (remember, check-in is at 3:00). A new desk clerk was at the counter and checked us in and showed us where our room was on the map at the counter. We got our bags, we headed to our room, opened the door (which was not closed all the way), and the room was STILL not cleaned nor the bed/bath linens changed. We returned to the front desk and were "upgraded" to a king room on the 2nd floor (again, remember we had requested the accessible room which is located on the first floor). There is NO ELEVATOR. The desk clerks were both very nice and apologetic, and the night clerk offered to help with our bags. The issue is being able to climb the stairs, which is challenging for me. He offered to get someone in to clean the 1st floor room immediately, but it was already 10:20 and we had driven five hours and had a long, exhausting day with family and just wanted to go to bed.
The room we had on the 2nd floor was very clean, the pillows and the comforter were all very nice and cozy, and there were ample choices of coffee and tea for the coffee maker; however the bed was quite firm. When we went to get ice, the ice maker on the 2nd floor was non-functioning, so he had to go downstairs and get ice from the 1st floor machine. When he had passed our original room, there was someone in the room attending to the housekeeping that hadn't been done earlier; so they DID respond immediately when we brought it to their attention.
Breakfast: The hot part of the breakfast is waffles, instant oatmeal and biscuits & gravy. They have a variety of fruit, muffins, cereals and such. Juice offerings were apple and orange. We had a brunch already planned, so I just grabbed some dry cereal to snack on as we got ready to go and packing our things. The area is really good, with as busy as the weekend was, they had tables available for people (while I was there) and it was an enjoyable environment.
Check-out was just a matter of turning the key cards in to the front desk (which I wouldn't have known if I didn't read the guest binder in the room). As I said before, the staff were all friendly; however, the execution of our visit was just a complete disaster. We won't be returning to this particular hotel again. This is the first time in 20 years that we didn't leave a tip for housekeeping...and it really bothers me.
There is a state prison across the street, but that didn't concern us at all. Any time we passed it, we saw that the towers were sufficiently manned. I understand that the BBQ/Steakhouse that is an outparcel in the parking lot is quite good. We had other dinner plans. If you get the chance and aren't shy about driving, The Porter Smokehouse and the Rodizio Grill are quite worth looking into.
There are 2nd floor rooms that have porches overlooking the pool (located on the 2nd floor). If you stay here, I'd ask for...

The internet was not working during my entire stay, the toilet seat was broken (missing the nut) and was never even looked at and the cable would freeze periodically (No storms). THE ONLY SAVING GRACE ABOVE MY STAY WAS THE BED!
Upon my arrival (Wednesday (08/07/24) I discovered the internet was not working. I do almost all my work over the internet, it's one of the main reasons I choose Choice Hotels the other being the beds are AWESOME. I called the front desk to inform them. I was told the internet was working in the business (room). It was not. I asked they could restart/reboot the router. They told me the problem was my laptop. I used my Android phone to try to access the internet. It didn't work. I the used my mother's Apple phone. It didn't work. The front desk person said he'd send the evening clerk to my room when he arrived to see if he could help. Nobody ever showed up. That evening I sat down on the toilet only have the thing slide under me. I looked at it and discover the left side nut that holds the seat in place was missing. Easy enough fix I thought but, being so late in the evening I'd wait until morning.
Thursday morning, I mentioned to the cleaning people about the toilet seat, they said thank you, Thursday morning I had an appointment. Thursday evening I came back and discovered the internet was still down and the toilet seat was not fixed. I left for Starbucks.
Friday morning and evening the same thing, no internet and broken toilet seat. Off to Starbucks.
Saturday morning and evening the same thing, no internet and broken toilet seat. Off to Starbucks.
I stayed an extra day (Sunday) and discovered that nothing changed.
If it weren't for the fact that I've had excellent stays at other locations I would NEVER use Choice again. My disappointment over this stay is staggering.
I am truly hoping that this experience was a one off. I feel pretty certain it is, HOWEVER, this needs to be remedied.
Currently gravely disappointed,...
Read moreIf you’re in the market for a hotel with clean rooms, working appliances, and a generally pleasant experience… well, keep looking. This isn’t it.
I picked this hotel because my spouse was life-flighted to Bryan West, and since the ICU doesn’t allow overnight stays, I needed something close and affordable. Turns out, you really do get what you pay for.
At first glance, the lobby and exterior look decent—almost inviting. But don’t be fooled. That’s just a clever illusion masking what’s lurking behind the walls.
Checking in late Tuesday, I was immediately greeted by a smell that could only be described as an assault on the senses. It lingers in the air, seeps into your clothes, and makes you question all your life choices. I thought maybe it would be better inside my room. Nope. The scent is baked into the carpet like a bad decision.
Speaking of the carpet, it looks clean, but trust me, don’t let your skin touch it. Socks? Ruined. Bare feet? Don’t even think about it. Just keep your shoes on and pretend it’s lava.
Then there’s the fire alarm—wrapped in plastic. A bold design choice, likely courtesy of the last guest who either smoked or burned incense in a desperate attempt to battle the existing stench. I had to spray my own cologne just to fall asleep.
Wednesday night, I came back to find my TV remote missing. Not misplaced—just non-existent. At that point, I took it as a sign. Instead of fighting the smell, the sticky carpet, and the missing amenities for another night, I made the easiest decision of my stay: I left early without even checking out.
Final verdict? Stay away. Unless, of course, you enjoy marinating in mystery odors and questionable hygiene standards. In that case, this might be the...
