Is this a 5 star resort? No. I have been to many 5 star resorts so my standards are high. Putting this at 5 stars is a stretch based on facilities, however, considering where the location and facilities fall short the staff picks up the slack. I have stayed at this location on and off over a 3 month period, for business. I am very impressed with the staff! They take a generous 3 star location and make it an easy 4 star stay. I was most impressed with a gentleman name Gary, wish I got his last name but it begins with an M and he works evenings...picture will be attached to this review. I stayed about 3 nights and was relocated, when I returned a few days later not only did Gary recognize me he also remembered my first and last name as well as the room I had occupied. His service did not end there. Gary is a model of what I expect from 5 star resort staff, if he is not managment, he absolutely should be! The rest of the staff can learn from his actions. Let me be clear, he did not give me anything special or free, he simply presents himself as a 5 star representative of the hotel.
During my stays I had the chance to try many of the menu options at the restaurant and found I was pleased with almost all of them. While not traditional, I highly reccomend the Sheppard's Pie.
The bar service was great. Of special mention is Lenzie, hope I got her name correct, she went over and above to bring the top 5 star service of the front desk to the lounge.
The morning buffet is ok, however if not included in your room its pricey at $16. From what I understand the menu has been unchanged for many years and is limited.
They charge $12 a day to park unless included in your room rate. It appears you can negotiate free parking or free breakfast. I suggest they include both since not everyone will partake in breakfast but it's a great added value.
The main pool and jacuzzis were nice and not over crowded. The jacuzzis by the tower building were cold and seemed out of service, maybe just a fluke. Good exercise rooms.
Lots of great meeting rooms with lots of daily activity.
One morning they were filming an episode of 911 on site. Cool to see.
My 4th floor window opened to a bay window, with even the screens sliding open. I left me windows open 24/7 to enjoy the coastal breeze, however, being right on the Van Nuys airport runway the jets get loud..the windows have excellent insulation properties and when closed it blocks the noise very good.
This is probably the longest most thorough review I have or will ever do. The reason for being so thorough is to explain clearly that you will be getting 5 star service at 3 star prices...overall a very good experiance and I will return in the future.
Edit: recommendation for management. Outlets are minimal and it is now normal for guest to need to charge electronics. Please consider installing a charging/power hub in each room. The cost is minimal and the guest expect this to be provided. Not providing is failing the modern guest which not only includes milinials, it also includes your target market of aircraft pilots/enthusiasts and the middle...
Read moreLots of CONS before the PROS. |First, I really was excited for this hotel, it looked amazing in pics and sounded great and fun for myself, my 4 yr old and my mom. It was not… |The gist- The shower pressure is awful!, literally couldn’t get the shampoo out of my hair. And the toilets flush sooo loud. |There’s no fridge or microwave. the breakfast is frozen pastries and sometimes there’s coffee. The cafe is not open. The elevator on one side is broken, so you have to walk to the other side of the hotel bc there’s no staircase, it’s closed. The hallways and some of the rooms smell like weed, or skunk or musty. The rooms are not clean, hairs all over our first room. ||At first, the checkin was fine and then they inform you that it’s 12$ a day for parking, why? There’s no gate, no guard, no security cameras, doesn’t make sense. But ok. Then, when you park in the back, there’s no security at the doors to the hotel, so anyone can literally go in whenever they want, the doors are not locked ever and there’s almost 100 rooms on each floor. Then you go in your room and the door looks like it was pried open with a crow bar, it has the push mark on the door and the frame from a bar, and the chain lock bar was super loose. We got to the hotel at 930 pm and I went to take a shower and there were black long hairs in the shower on the wall, on the curtain inside and out and on the floor. There was even a hair on the table and the folded hanging bath towel. It was gross. I have blonde hair, my daughter has light curly brown and my mom has white hair. The front desk said they’d move us in the morning. So we moved to the second floor. This room seemed better the first night in the room. The second night, which was the third, I was taking my makeup off in the bathroom mirror with a wipe, and the 6 foot light fixture fell on my head. I did not touch the light, it’s way high up and on the wall above the mirror. I didn’t shake the mirror or wall, my daughter was standing right behind me. I luckily caught it on my back. I called the front desk, the manager called back and said we could move rooms. I’m like, for a third time and at 930pm with my daughter who’s ready for bed? No! The next day, I went to the front desk in the am where the manager didn’t even say I’m Sorry, she just said I can change rooms, or she said I had to call Expedia to get anything maybe. After Expedia called them, the hotel said I could move rooms or they’d refund my money for the next 2 nights but I’d have to checkout in the next hour. How does that make sense, they have an issue and their resolution is to kick out the guest? Wow! Also the hand towel holder fell off when my daughter was drying her hands, and the ironing board had a 2 foot metal rod just fall off and not hold up the board. It was broken. These rooms need a ton of work. ||Pros- the beds are comfy, but they are fulls, small beds and not down pillows like they say. The tv is...
Read moreI stayed at Airtel Plaza Hotel for 4 days over the weekend in October for a wedding. Here are a few facts to consider. My flight from Seattle to LAX took 2 hrs 20 min. My uber ride from LAX to Airtel (23.64 mile) at 3:30 pm took 1:52 hours! Keep that in mind. Also to consider, the hotel is right next to the busiest GA airport in the US. There is a private plane taking off every few minutes throughout the day. The noise didn't bother me much, but if you're sensitive to the noise, it might be an issue for you.
At check-in the staff was very friendly and professional, I was checked in in a few minutes. The rooms are large with lots of space, however with very basic amenities, I found my room "well-worn" and dated. Although not offensive, the room had that typical "hotel room" odor. You can actualy open the windows here and get some fresh air, which helped a lot. My room had a king bed and I found it to be relatively comfortable, however the sheets felt well-used and on their last leg (kind of pillie and thin.) There were only 2 bath towels in my room, so if you are more than 1 person, you might want to call and ask for more towels.
The complementary breakfast in the a.m. was good and did the trick. I did not use the bar or room service so can't comment on the quality of food or service there.
So in short, the rooms are ok but very basic at the Airtel and offer nothing special other than a place to sleep. However, the service from the staff was very good. When I asked about transportation to LAX, the gentleman behind the desk suggested I take the direct bus service from a nearby depot which goes directly all the terminals at LAX for all of $9.75. The hotel shuttle will drop you off at the depot and the bus runs every 15 min - simply the best deal in town. My bus ride at 5 am took 30 minutes to get to LAX.
Hope you find this...
