I have been traveling around the world for 25 years, but I have never experienced such brutal and rude treatment from hotel staff as in the case of the Royal Palace Westwood Hotel. At 8 a.m., my wife, children, and I were torn from our sleep by loud and persistent banging on the door (yes, banging on the door like the police do in the movies when they knock on the doors of criminals). When I opened the door a crack, I saw an aggressive stranger who went berserk and loudly shouted across the entire hotel corridor trying to tell me (I didn't even have time to open my mouth) that I had parked my car incorrectly in the evening and that I had to move it within one minute. In addition, I should expect to be charged $200 for incorrect parking. For a moment, I wondered who had let this stranger into the hotel and given them the address of my room. I immediately got dressed and ran to the reception to sort out the matter with the hotel staff. Imagine my surprise when it turned out that the receptionist was the same man who had just been banging on my door in a frenzy! Yes, he was an employee of this hotel.
The hotel has very tight parking spaces (a topic that has been discussed many times in reviews). The previous evening, after several unsuccessful attempts to fit into such a space, the employees of the neighboring restaurant took pity on me, approached me and offered help, suggesting that I park next to their building. Unfortunately, as it turned out later, this space was reserved for a local doctor. The next day, the fateful day, when I was moving my car after a row caused by a hotel employee, I spoke to the doctor and she said that nothing serious had happened and that she had managed to park in a different space without any problems.
The question arises, why did the hotel staff behave so shamefully? I will add that I did not hear the word āsorryā from the employees. Finally, I would like to point out that in the evenings, right next to the hotel, there are many homeless people and other people behaving strangely, which significantly reduces the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe stayed for only one night on December 8 for an appointment at UCLA the following morning. This hotel was very clean, reasonably priced compared to other more luxurious hotels in the area, I immediately felt safe upon entering because the front desk is right there when you walk in and thereās always someone at the front desk. The bathroom was very clean , A very good showerhead that was placed high up for even the tallest people ample room in the shower toilet trees that were placed there with a sign that said if you need more please let the front desk know . The small refrigerator and the microwave was very clean the beds were comfortable there was a sufficient amount of pillows, there was nothing shabby or distasteful about the room or the hotel. It was a nice sized TV I wanna say maybe it was a 48 inch? There was also a table with four chairs where we could sit and eat our store-bought meals. Parking is free which was a huge plus nobody offers free parking any more , we got there early enough that we were able to get a parking spot . There are seating area directly in front of the hotel if you want to sit outside and for smokers you may step outside and there is a designated smoking area . To our pleasure there was also a sliding glass door with a patio that felt very private and chairs outside . We walked to UCLA which in retrospect we would probably take Lyft or Uber as it was a little bit too much for the person I was walking with. If youāre pretty hearty and donāt get winded easily I would recommend walking itās a lovely walk. There is a Ralphās store and a Target and a Trader Joeās very close by I went in all three in there lovely stores very clean very well stocked. We will have other appointments at UCLA and we very much intend on staying at this particular hotel it was safe clean warm and welcoming, it suited our...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHotels, more than any other service, really depend on the price. Royal Palace Westwood is a small quiet Hotel that was really worth the price given the expensive Westwood location.
We were there for early morning medical appointments at UCLA. Upon check in, they started impressing us with their policies and service. They clearly want to make folks feel good about RP and feel comfortable in returning when future medical visits are required. Yes, there is a shuttle to UCLA; the phone number to request a shuttle is posted by the front door. Yes, we can leave our car parked there after checkout so long as we leave our key if we're blocking somebody else. They recommend we leave our luggage inside instead of in the car; it's a good neighborhood but better safe than sorry. The free breakfast was continental, but better than most continental breakfasts with fresh fruit, waffles (or pancakes? I was rushed and skipped them), yogurt, orange juice, plus all the usual stuff.. The beds were comfortable. The rooms were clean. My wife is allergic to all kinds of cleaning supplies, but was not bothered in the least. We were mildly concerned about older reports of mold because I'm highly allergic. I had fewer problems with allergies there than at home, so I consider the reports to have been corrected.
Royal Palace isn't a resort style hotel. Those hotels can run $500 a night or more in West LA. If you want to visit Los Angeles for the many things visitors like, Westwood, UCLA, shopping, beaches, etc. Royal Palace is a clean affordable home base that doesn't try to keep you on site but does try to...
