If you're even thinking about staying here...do it! Bourbon Barrel Inn is not just a place to rest your head; it’s an experience. You need at least three nights to savor it all.
We stayed in The Saratoga Suite, which felt more like a thoughtfully designed guest apartment than a room. A super comfy king bed (with two pillow types!), a private sitting room with fridge and drink station, blackout blinds, a smart fan system, and a massive spa-like bathroom with a rainfall-height shower (I’m 6'4" and still had clearance!)... every detail felt curated for comfort. Water pressure? Fantastic. Decor? Stylish and creative, with bourbon barrel touches that make it uniquely Kentucky.
The innkeepers have absolutely nailed the art of hospitality. Warm, helpful, and intuitive, they strike the perfect balance of being available when needed, but never hovering. Breakfast each morning was exceptional... plentiful, delicious, and tailored to your timing and dietary preferences. We even got a to-go meal on our departure morning.
The B&B is perfectly located. Walkable to great food and nestled among historic Victorian homes. It's also just 7 minutes to Churchill Downs, which made it an ideal Derby weekend choice. But even if you're not visiting for the races, this is the kind of place you want to build into your Louisville trip - not just for sleep, but to stay and savor.
While the property isn’t designed for children- a slight downside for us as parents- it’s also part of what makes the experience so special for us adults. The peaceful setting allowed for quiet mornings, meaningful conversation, and true relaxation.
We genuinely loved our stay, and while the owners went above and beyond in a few personalized ways, what stood out most was the intentional design and care put into the whole guest experience. This is a special place, and I’m honored to leave their very first review. Can’t wait to...
Read moreOur first impression of the Bourbon Barrel Inn was "wow what a quaint stunning building." Location was just perfect. Close to downtown and other major landmarks. With open arms and welcoming smiles Brian and Rich made quite a good first impression. I knew instantly we were in excellent hands. They showed us to our room and helped us with our luggage. Offered snacks because us travelers get hungry. Lets talk about the room. Jaw dropping. The decor and aesthetics was very calming yet masculine. With the right about of home feeling touch. Brian and Rich kept all the original flooring and doors with a major upgrade of huge walk in shower, couple sized bathtub for two. I forgot some toiletries and they already had them in the room. Literally anything you can think of. Even a nail file. Who thinks of that? Plush white towels to warm you after a shower. I can on... Lets talk about the bed. OMG so comfortable. No expense was lost on the sheets. The mattress was so comfy. It was hard for us to leave such a comfortable room. And boy can they cook! Breakfast was amazing. Eggs Benedict, potatoes in a tiny skillet with fresh fruit. Then in the evening we got to go down to the mixer/happy hour with Brian and Rich and other travelers. They couldn't have been more easy to talk to, laugh with and I found myself yearning to learn so much more about the both of them. In fact we had dinner plans and cancelled because we were having such a great evening with them. We took a tour of the perfectly landscaped backyard perfect for the evening cocktail. We travel a lot and this was my favorite place to come and visit. We will be back. Brian and Rich couldn't have done anything else better. We left wanting to stay longer, for all the mentions above as well as more hugs. These guys know what they are doing. You can tell hospitality is not their job, its what they love to do. And it shows. See you...
