We were married at the Louisville Bourbon Inn at the end of October 2024 and the whole experience was nothing short of magical. You can feel 100% confident trusting the team at the Louisville Bourbon Inn with your wedding. They will absolutely spoil you and every one of your guests and give you an utterly unforgettable event that your family and friends will rave about for weeks after!!
The mansion is the epitome of stately Old Louisville on the outside, yet warm and welcoming inside…seamlessly merging a high-end vibe with absolute comfort. That spiral staircase in the foyer was practically made for a bride to descend. The high ceilings, glorious windows, and gleaming woodwork on the first floor were the perfect backdrop for an intimate “I do.”
Of course, we had out of town guests sharing the weekend with us as well. The guest suites at the Inn are nothing short of incredible. The beds are amazingly comfortable, somehow firm and soft in perfect balance. The team has also sourced the absolute softest, most luxurious sheets you’ll ever sleep on. The suites have 1880’s old world charm, but with all the little modern conveniences that take a stay over the top: fantastic showers/water pressure, outlets in all the right places, a steamer in each room, a noise machine to provide a calming sleep soundtrack, and fans to move the air conditioning around on a warm day.
The mansion is beautiful, but it was the team that made our wedding special. From the moment we first walked in the door, Allen’s warmth and graciousness sold us. Allen has a passion for his work that infuses his cocktails and his food. His signature Old Fashioned is crave-worthy. For our wedding dinner, he (literally) spent four days preparing steaks that cut through like butter. He cheerfully accommodated our guests’ dietary needs, crafting an impressive cauliflower steak for the vegetarian and a gorgeous sea bass for the no-red-meat guest.
Of course, the pivotal person for an engaged couple is the wedding planner. This is the person who will make or break the whole experience – and Michael excelled beyond all expectations! We didn’t have a lot of specific requests, so we gave him general guidelines – some inspiration photos, discussions about vibes, some background on us as a couple – and let him run with it. He was great about communication, patiently answering all our many (many!) questions and adjusting during the process to make sure everything would be perfect.
In addition, Michael sourced our cake from a phenomenal bakery in the area and brought samples for us to try (which is part of the fun!). Additionally, he found a fantastic photographer (shout out to Josh!) who captured the best in all of us against the gorgeous fall backdrop of Central Park across the street. Michael also recommended an officiant for us – and his suggestion was absolutely perfect! Sally put together an extraordinarily thoughtful, personal ceremony for us that brought us and our guests to tears.
The results were magical. Michael created a photo backdrop zone for guests to pause and take a picture when they arrived. He transformed the living room into a simple, elegant ceremony space featuring a large circle behind the podium echoing the symbolism of the wedding rings. The dining room was breathtaking – with floating candles on the walls suspended by invisible threads, intricate place settings, and a sparkling sweetheart table for the two of us to share a few quiet “wow we just got married!” moments over dinner.
(And a giant shout out to Jeff, who worked a bit more in the background but played a huge part in the success. He graciously assisted with making my aging parents comfortable, kept all the billing on track, and charmed our guests during the event and over breakfast the next morning.)
This experience was everything we hoped it would be and then some! We felt like we gained an extended family through this experience, and we can’t wait to go back and visit with them on our anniversary next year and every...
Read moreMy husband and I were married at the Louisville Bourbon Inn earlier this year, and I truly don’t have enough words to express how perfect, magical, and unforgettable the entire experience was. From the stunning property to the exceptional staff, every single detail exceeded our expectations.
The inn itself is absolutely gorgeous—an impeccably maintained Victorian mansion full of charm, character, and elegance. The interiors are beautifully preserved with original details that make you feel like you've stepped back in time, but with all the modern comforts, offering the perfect backdrop for both quiet mornings and, in our case, an incredibly picturesque wedding ceremony. Simply stunning,
Each morning we were treated to gourmet breakfasts prepared by Allen, and they were nothing short of extraordinary. His shrimp and grits were divine, the award-winning biscuits and gravy were unforgettable, and the bourbon bananas foster French toast? To die for. He’s earned numerous culinary awards, and for good reason. Every bite reflected passion and talent.
But what truly sets the Louisville Bourbon Inn apart is the people. The staff went above and beyond to make our wedding not just beautiful, but deeply personal and meaningful. My husband and I share Scottish heritage and planned to incorporate a traditional handfasting ceremony. Although unfamiliar with the custom, Michael (our wedding coordinator) and Sally (our officiant) didn’t hesitate for a moment—they researched, asked questions, and fully embraced our vision. Michael even watched YouTube videos to learn how to properly tie the handfasting knot and built a breathtaking floral backdrop for our ceremony.
He also orchestrated one of the most special surprises of the day by playing a custom-recorded violin version of "our song" for my walk down the aisle (or rather, my walk down the breathtakingly beautiful spiral staircase). It brought tears to everyone’s eyes and made our ceremony feel like a fairy tale.
Sally took the time to get to know us beforehand and crafted a ceremony that so perfectly reflected our love story—it was heartfelt, joyful, and truly us. After the ceremony and photos in the nearby park, we returned to the inn to find that Allen had prepared mini old-fashioned cocktails (our favorite) for us and our guests. It was thoughtful touches like these that made the day feel so personal, so full of love, and so unforgettable.
Our wedding day at the Louisville Bourbon Inn wasn’t just beautiful—it was deeply special. It was joyful, seamless, and full of heart. I will forever be grateful to Allen, Michael, Sally, and the entire team for their kindness, creativity, and care. If you are looking for a wedding venue, a romantic getaway, or simply the best B&B experience in Louisville, look no further. This place is truly...
Read moreWhere to begin…. First of all, we learned of the Louisville Bourbon Inn by Angelique from the Old Louisville Ghost Tour in October of 2023 (in which we highly recommend). She did an excellent job at peaking our curiosity about the Old Louisville area (and its ghosts). So we knew we wanted to come back and stay at one of the bed and breakfasts mentioned. Why did we chose this one? Because of its high ratings and the award winning breakfast as advertised on the website. So we came for my birthday. We had the best experience! Allen is such a kind, gracious host. He really does make you feel like family upon arrival. The mansion itself is breathtaking. We stayed in the Old Fashioned Suite because we were intrigued by the story of the ghost of Annie Whipple. It was a beautiful room… you can look at pics and see for yourself. And yes, we got “Whippled” while there. In the middle of the night, I awoke to the sound of the shower running. My husband got up to turn it off (afraid it would wake up other guests) and when he reached the bathroom door, the water stopped. We never felt threatened or afraid whatsoever. We both dozed right back to sleep. I promise this was NOT a dream because the first thing I did when I woke up was check the shower floor, and sure enough, it was still wet! I couldn’t wait to tell Allen about it at breakfast (I’ll get to that). I asked if he believed me and he said- “I absolutely believe you because that exact same thing happened in the same room last year to someone else!!” Well see there… I’m not the first to get Whippled!! How fun is that?!?
Let’s go back to the breakfast- first of all, we were in excellent company (we met new friends who we absolutely adore) at a beautiful dining room table. Allen prepared both the award winning biscuits and gravy for my husband and the bananas foster French toast for the rest of us. Let me just say, if there’s a French toast competition- Allen will win that also!! He’s absolutely amazing!! If you stay there, you will see why the Louisville Bourbon Inn AND Allen are top notch and award winning!! Please see it for yourself, AFTER you go on the ghost tour so you will appreciate the rich, ghostly history. There’s also a YouTube video made by HauntTV featuring Angelique where you can learn more info about the ghost (the owners have changed since the video).
Note about pic: right before we went to bed, I took a picture of the complimentary Louisville limestone filtered water (you can learn about that also from Allen and food tour companies) because I thought it was neat. I didn’t look at the pic until the next day at breakfast. Zoom in on the bathroom doorknob and you will see a blue/green “orb” coming from the keyhole. Had I looked at the picture after taking it, I might have been more prepared for...
