Central park! I use to live across from it for 21 years. It was so nice! The peaceful park, the trees , police station in it, the playground for the kids, and plenty of walking area for your dog/s. The benches all around, the squirrels running everywhere, and the birds, too. I'm a nature freak and love a lot of that! " Saint James Art Fair", rolls around, first weekend in October, and "Shakespeare in the Park", usually runs, from June through August. I like people watching as well. Great apartments and homes all around. Wow a lot of them are so amazing. Love all the architecture design's, some of them have. Stainglass windows and a lot to see around there. You can even ride your bike around in it , pull a wagon , skateboard, and your bound to see a lot. Tennis court, if you got the energy and action that it takes. I just love it. Great walks! Kentucky folks are more friendlier than most states you 'll ever visit. And God bless Andy Beshear for doing all that he does and for trying to keep us safe during this pandemic, Covid 19. Whether or not a lot of others didn't appreciate that. If he didn't do his job , they would complain about that too. Sorry I got carried away, literally, from good ole Central Park!!! Enjoy life!! Some people are basically scared to mention the word "Downtown". God says not to fear anything, so it's your choice. A few years back, yeah the area and alot of places weren't doing that good. But again, thanks to the police department, they cleaned it up and still doing a good job. They have too! It's their job to protect us. But it's a quiet place, the Theater is about to take off, and I watch as the park fills up with every one that wants enjoyment and excitement. They work hard to please people. Do you know how guarded you actually are there? Plus the police there? Right in the park!! I added all these pictures so you can enjoy if you just stay home. I had taken pictures around the park that has to do with the Old Buildings, Churches, and St. James Court. St James Art fair states the first weekend in October and that's a thrill to see as well. I'm glad I took the time to enjoy life and seen a lot of Louisville. There's been many changes for the better. I've been there day and night walking around .God watches my every move so I'll always enjoy everything!!! Sorry for those who don't trust...
Read moreI love this park, I remember my mother pushing a stroller with my younger brother Ron. I would have been age two or three. What I remember most was the long, white columned walkway. Later as a pre-teen was some of the summer programs that were offered. There was once a baseball diamond where friends and new found ones, would gather for a weekend baseball game. Just a block or so down Sixth Stree, was the Cabbage Patch Settlement. Wonderful people and programs for youth. But, Central Park is a place I return to when I am back in Louisville. During the summer breaks Central Park became Camalot, Iwo Jima, or anyother place our minds would take us. Every summer morning I would go to the, or park office building and help the Park Custodian, I would walk with him on his daily rounds, using the trash pick up stick he made for me. It became a daily chore to help him, and for helping he paid me 50 cents, enough for me to buy a 12 ounce soft drink and candy bar. That was the first job I had. I left Louisville in 1965 when I enlisted into the U. S. Marine Corps and frim then on it became a once everyother year or so I would visit family and friends, and Central Park was always on my agenda, I would walk along the columned path. Over the years my four children have at times visited Central Park where I once played, I hope they remember this wonderful...
Read moreCentral Park seems to have went downhill over the years in it's upkeep and maintenance of it. The park has just only really been known for the Shakespeare in the Park Festival. I have always wanted to go the festival but I hadn't been able to go to any of them. This visit to Central Park was my first time seeing the Shakespeare Festival and I was excited to be there, excited because I knew one of the performers personally. My youngest son, Alex was one of the performers in the Shakespeare play that was going to be put on. The play was Richard the III and this play was done by the kids that had attended the Shakespeare's day camp and Alex was one of the students at the day camp. The performance was the finale of the day camp and even though it wasn't the whole play, that would've been about 3 hours long, it was still an exciting and important part of mine and Alex's experience in our lives. This will be added to his acting portfolio for his future acting and/or singing career. More than likely both, no bias to it my son is a very multi talented teenager. The park and it's festival has been floundering for a long time.... Hopefully it'll be restored to its former glorious...
