My wife and I have been staying at B and Bs for over thirty years, and always appreciated the unique characteristics each offered. However, with that being said, our stay at the DuPont Mansion was unlike anything we had ever experienced in any of our many sojourns.||The expectations based on the description from their website, as well as, related social media reviews and the reality we experienced during our stay left a lot to be desired.||For starters, our confirmation email said we would receive additional arrival information the day of our check in. Although we received the confirmation email six additional times, we never received the promised communication regarding checking in. And, only after calling once parked out front did we receive the required entrance code. Definitely not the most positive “first impression” after a long day behind the wheel.||Well, so much for first impressions, just logged it to a system failure or perhaps “a one off” poor communication issue. Then, at approximately 3:30 am, the fire alarm went off in our room. Not the soft friendly reminder to change the batteries but a constant repeating loud high pitch beep designed to get your attention. Initially, I checked our floor then downstairs even looking outside for where’s the fire. Nothing to be found, when back to the room figuring that it must be above us.||As I approached our room, the lady staying in the next room was out in the hallway asking questions that I had spent the past twenty minutes or so trying to find the answers to. Also, by then, I had called the number listed in the room directory as “ in case of emergency” and left the pertinent message per their instructions. Around 5 am, with the alarm still going off, and having not received a callback, I dialed the emergency number again; this time connecting to a human voice that was glad I called again, had seen the call but not the message and wished I had called sooner.|At approximately 5:30 or so, the emergency contact had arrived! And, shortly thereafter the alarm was put out of service. Also, at that time, was assigned another room but up on the third floor, which upon arrival with bags in hand found the room had not been made up or cleaned from previous guest. Another phone call and another room assignment. So much for getting a restful sleep or much at all!||Also, during all of this, we discovered that the innkeeper was sleeping directly above the room with the alarm going off. And, to everyone’s amazement, swears she never heard it going off. Communications, now, has become more than a “one off” with the overnight hassle having a negative impact on our plans for the coming day.||The first 12 hours had been nothing short of a nightmare with my wife asking me, as daylight arrived, if we’re going to checkout and go somewhere else. My reply, “no, it can not get any worse”. And, for the most part, it didn’t. ||Although, our plans, including a “must see”, for the day got totally screwed up due to the impact of the lack of sleep, breakfast was an enjoyable experience which lived up to what we had been expecting from the reviews and became the highlight of our stay at the inn. However, with the exception of the daily breakfast, the inn was not up to the standards we have grown accustomed to experiencing over the years at B and Bs.||Although I have waited for more than 30 days to write this review in order to provide an objective assessment, there are certain aspects can not be overlooked:||1) Grounds were unkept, piles of leaves on the front steps and walkway; broken front gate; the backyard was overgrown and the courtyard area sitting area looked as it had not been cleaned in months, definitely unfit for enjoying sitting outdoors.||2) Basic housekeeping standards were missing; dingy looking towels and washcloths, a good bleaching would work wonders; missing items in the rooms i.e. a light weight blanket, a rod in the wardrobe to hang up items (missing in all three rooms we were assigned to during our first night).||3) Failure to deliver on advertised amenities for the second floor guest kitchen; there was not any complimentary fresh baked pastries during our stay, the selection of coffees and teas was limited to decaf or regular blend, water was in carafes sitting in the fridge instead of individual bottles with glasses in each guest room.||4) TOTALLY lack of any communications with the owners. To quote a well known line from the movie “Cool Hand Luke”, what we have here is a failure to communicate. The owners never reach out (although was onsite every morning during our stay and was told he was aware of the events of the first night) or follow up communications from the resident staff regarding compensation for the events of our first night. Then,|after waiting 24 hours plus to see how they would respond, we had to take the initiative to state our case for compensation for the first night’s stay. And, again, we had to pressed the issue the morning we were checking out before finally being told we would receive a credit for the first night.||Summarizing, would I recommend DuPont Mansion, definitely not! If I was grading our stay it would be an overall D+ or a C-. As stated before, the breakfast each day was the saving grace for a passing grade and if their location is included then perhaps a low C depending on a guest agendas. ||Perhaps, in time, the new owners can learn from feedback like this to improve the|experience of their guests stays. One can only hope that the case, as they say ….. location, location, location was the reason for choosing the Dupont Mansion but the experience is the reason we will...
Read moreIf you are on the fence about staying at the Dupont Mansion...do not hesitate anymore. Book it! We liked it so much that we have now been 3 times in a 6-month period. If you want a place to relax and unwind and be pampered, then you have found the right place. There are so many neat things to see and do in Louisville but we never wanted to leave the Mansion to go see these things. We actually loved this place so much we got married here. The breakfasts are delicious and well thought out. The decorations at Christmas were very festive. If it is nice outside, make sure you go back on the deck and read a book by the weeping willow tree. It is so peaceful back there. The wedding elopement package was perfect for us. I can't tell you how much detail they went to make our day special for us in such a short amount of time. The price is worth what they do for you. Everything was more than we ever dreamed of. The best part of the entire place is the Inn keeper, Chris. He goes above and beyond to make your stay nice. He communicated with me very promptly on all the details and did exactly what I wanted. They all made our day very unique and special and tailor-made for us. I will forever be grateful. I could could go on and on. I feel so blessed. We will keep going back. Hopefully every year for our...
Read moreI have been very fortunate to find this gem getaway while searching for a hotel to stay at on a business trip 2 years ago. This has now been my 4th time staying at The Dupont Mansion ( Also the Inn at the Park which they also own across the street which is equally as good). I travel a lot and there is no better place than this. Herb and Gayle Warren are the perfect Owners and Inn Keepers. I've gotten to know Herb over the years. He really understands how to make a guest feel right at home. The Dupont Mansion is in the historical district just a mile south of downtown Louisville and 10 minutes from the airport. The home is majestic and beautifully maintained and many of the rooms are quite large- some with huge bathtubs and very comfortable beds. I enjoy the large parlor, the beautiful back patio with white whicker and the gourmet breakfast which you can choose to eat at your convenience. You can enjoy a walk through this historical district and see largest neighborhood of renovated mansions anywhere in the country! There's a nice Italian restaurant around the corner and another I've enjoyed with a piano bar. Please come visit the Dupont Mansion or the Inn at the Park and get an experience of...
