I recently had the opportunity to stay at the Bellweather Hotel following its impressive renovation. The transformation from a dilapidated building into a stylish, boutique hotel is nothing short of commendable. The result is an Airbnb-type experience with a charming common area that exudes a quaint yet trendy vibe, with tasteful decorations and comfortable seating. However, our overall experience was marred by a few issues that could have been easily avoided. Despite the chic ambiance, we encountered several bugs in our room during our stay - one in the bed and another on the towels. Although I documented this with photos, I will refrain from posting them so as not to deter potential visitors. Another aspect that could use some improvement is their communication system. After making my payment, I received a confirmation text message with a link with additional info for our stay. Seeing that this was the established method of comm, I was expecting another closer to our visit date with the ID confirmation. However, no such message was received and it wasn't until the day of our stay that I found it as an email confirming our reservation. A simple text or call from the hotel would have been more reassuring and made more sense. Our check-in process also left much to be desired. The access code provided to us initially didn't work, leading to several futile attempts and back-and-forth emailing with hotel staff who insisted it was correct. Eventually, we went to dinner instead of continuing to troubleshoot and they issued us an alternate code which thankfully worked upon our return. Also, if not otherwise known, the street the bellweather is on is quite lively. In conclusion, while the Bellweather Hotel has done an admirable job in renovating its premises and creating an appealing aesthetic, there are still areas where their service falls short - most notably cleanliness and communication. These issues did affect our overall experience but does not negate the potential this boutique hotel has if these concerns are addressed promptly and effectively.

The hotel is located very close to restaurants and shops. Quite a bit of street parking was available further from the hotel. The closet spot we found was about a 2 minute walk to the hotel. The hotel decor was nice. There were crumbs or sand or something on the fitted sheet on the bed, under the flat sheet/comforter. Not sure if that sheet was washed. I've never experienced that at a hotel. There was a weird half panel covering on shower, with a hole in it to reach your hand through to turn the water on/off and adjust the temp. The only other way to turn the shower on/adjust temp is to step into the shower fully. I've attached a picture. The open concept made for a cold shower anytime I was out of the water. The bathroom fan came on by itself after I showered. It would not come on before or during my shower. The mirror was completely fogged up. The mini fridge made a strange knocking noise every so often, waking us up repeatedly throughout the night. We ended up not being able to fall back asleep after being woken up so many times. We checked out of the hotel by 3:30 am.

Wonderful time at The Bellwether. Sarah helped us set up the perfect trip with our large group. We were able to rent out the entire hotel which really helped to make this trip special. Where else can you get 20 people under the same roof, but still allow everyone to have their own personal rooms? Once we were on premise, Melissa was great at responding if we had any questions. The rooms were creatively unique and clean. The common spaces were set up perfectly to mingle and hang out. This great location puts you walking distance to a ton of eating options on "restaurant row". And the supermarket next door comes in handy if you forget your essentials! **This hotel does not have staff on premise. If you are the type of needy person that wants immediate in-person interaction/service this spot is not for you. But if you want the independence of an Airbnb with a trendy boutique hotel vibe, this is the PERFECT spot. Management is only a call away and they can come on site if needed. We will be back to The Bellwether for our next group trip to KY. 👍

  • I’ve double checked all emails & text messages received from the hotel. There are no rules clearly stated in either. It is on the website under FAQ but I didn’t look there before staying - shouldn’t have to be something I do to get rules. As a reminder, this room was bought for us as a gift, but if it was listed somewhere I signed it wasn’t clearly stated. And, your posters are not “large” no one saw any signage posted. If we would have, we would have followed the rules.

I don’t want to argue about your rules, as a mother it makes sense and this is somewhere I’d want to take my daughter if we had a night out with her. What I’m arguing is that your rules are not clearly stated or communicated.

So, I’m disappointed in your alls defensive response. Instead of being defensive in your response to a customer who truly was apologetic, I urge you to take the feedback and improve communication of the rules. I hope you all can take constructive feedback and continue to grow into one of the most loveliest places to stay in Louisville.*

Loved the hotel itself, it was absolutely beautiful. We stayed in the Rosewood Suite and it was perfect for a couple/weekend getaway.

Parking is hard since Bardstown Road is always so busy, especially on the weekends. But we were still able to find close spots.

We are locals and the location is truly perfect! You are in walking distance from so many shops, restaurants and more.

I gave 3 stars for service due to a couple issues. Leading up to our stay, service was impeccable, they were flexible with us in having to change our staycation dates due to our daughter being sick. But, we didn’t receive code information for our changed weekend stay. I had to reach out for that information. They were super responsive and got back to me quickly but I felt like it was one more task I needed to do while preparing everything else to get us out of the house.

My biggest complaint with the service was the rules that we weren’t aware of but felt chastised about once we became aware that we were breaking them. I am someone that does take rules seriously, I would never break them intentionally. Since we had a one night staycation we had our friends back to the lounge area for a cocktail after we finished our birthday dinner. It was 4 couples and we all kept it pretty quiet but were having great conversations. We lost track of time and the next thing we know a manager was standing in the lounge area telling us we were breaking rules that were clearly stated in the lounge. The problem with that was they were NOT clearly stated in the lounge (or anywhere beforehand). It was on a 8x11 sign with lots of other words put in the corner where we didn’t even notice it. Again, it felt like we were chastised and being “yelled”.

Once we returned to our room, I looked at my phone and I had received multiple messages from the staff saying we needed to exit the lounge. There was also a message that read:

“Your reservation is for two guests. The rest of your group needs to vacate the property now. We do not allow visitors or for guests to host gatherings in their rooms. Failure to follow our policies will result in your reservation being cancelled and your eviction from the property.”

This was also another rule that was not expressed to us beforehand. Communication of these rules would have been appreciated beforehand and a better form of communication rather than just text messages would be nice. Not everyone has their phones...

You know you are back in Kentucky when the snacks available for purchase in your hotel room are wine, bourbon and chocolate. |Just looking at the facade you can feel the history of the place. Once a Bell Telephone company switching station (hence the name), then a police station and later home to the Louisville Ballet after long neglect it has arisen once again as an upscale hotel, a mix of modern and historic.|What's good:|Terrific location in Louisville's tree-lined Highlands, easy walking distance to excellent restaurants, bars, shops, etc. For those looking to stretch their walk the hotel is mere blocks from Cherokee Park, one of Frederick Law Olmstead's ode to Nature.|Modern amenities, including premium ground coffee and a press.|Good strength of wifi, and excellent insulation that blocks out exterior noise on busy Bardstown Road.|Smart TV with lots of apps and content options.|Spacious room, though a bit austere in furnishings (see photos).|Needs improvement:|The lack of off-street parking is a deal-breaker for me. Bardstown Road and Rosewood, the street adjacent to the hotel, are jammed with cars even on weeknights. On the Saturday I stayed there was a festival nearby and it was blocks and blocks away to find a parking space. Lucky I wasn't hauling luggage. I can't recommend the hotel to anyone who has to park a car, it's that tough. |There was no closet in my room, and a bar attached to the wall with three hangers is a joke (see photo). Also missing was a stand or way to access luggage.|No local stations on the TV made it a hassle to get local news and weather.|*No staff present made it feel more like an AirBNB than a hotel. In three nights my room was never cleaned and I never saw anyone cleaning rooms. Good luck getting additional linens or any sort of assistance without calling or...
