My family and I left Coastal SC due to Hurricane Irma. As you can imagine hotels everywhere booked quickly, especially pet friendly ones (My cat made the trip with us). My dad booked 2 rooms at this Quality Inn in Duncan, SC so we would have a place to go. Note: my husband was required to stay behind to assist with the storm, so my parents had 1 room and my brother and I had another.
We arrived 9/10 and checked in. The room assigned to me reeked of cigarette smoke. This is unacceptable as 1. The hotel should be smoke free 2. I'm 7.5 months pregnant. But the front desk staff was kind enough to immediately change my room. Problem is that the room we were reassigned to was significantly smaller but of course not any less expensive. It didn't seem as clean as the other room, but knowing they were sold out there was no other room to be moved to I didn't protest as we were lucky to have a room safely away from the storm.
As we settle in, we notice the outlets are very scarce and had to choose between plugging in the lamp or phone that was in the room or charging our cell phones. That's when we notice that nothing was even plugged in to begin with!
There is also a room adjoining ours, so I had to move the desk in front of it to prevent the people in the room next door from coming in either accidentally or otherwise. HUGE safety concern, but I was exhausted after a day of travel and prayed for the best. But my resting didn't last long. At 2am, we hear people barreling up and down the stairs and yelling about who knows what. Surely it was loud enough for management to hear but no one ever came to tell them to quiet down. By the time I plugged the room telephone in (remember, scarce outlets) to call the front desk, the running and yelling had stopped.
But moving on. The shower and sink had very low water pressure, but as this is a much older building I wasn't surprised. The tiny shower curtain liner didn't keep water in the tub at all. The bathroom floor was soaked when I got out. I used all the towels available to soak up the huge slippery mess.
We tried the continental breakfast, but the selection was very limited. There wasn't even milk for cereal.
My family and I explored Greenville on Sunday and when we eventually made it back to the hotel in the evening, the room smelled of cigarette smoke and we heard a very loud dog barking and cage rattling in the room I'm assuming is behind ours as the sound/smell was coming from the vent in the bathroom. Yet another safety concern. My cat is terrified and hiding under the covers for the rest of the night (the incessant barking never stopped).
I was feeling quite ill by Monday so I decide to stay in the room while my parents and brother explore the nearby towns. The barking continues. The room periodically smells like smoke. At this point I was able to confirm it was coming from the vent in the bathroom. I guess no one bothers to enforce the no smoking rule.
Tuesday morning we are able to head home now that the storm has passed. I bring up my concerns to the front desk and was told that there would have been nothing they could have done as all rooms were booked the duration of my stay. I was so exasperated by this point that I just paid and left. We stopped at a restaurant up the street and I look at my receipt. I was charged 4x the quoted amount for the pet fee! I call the front desk and the clerk who answered told me she didn't know how to adjust the charge and I would have to wait for a manager to fix it and she'd email me right away. Hours pass and no email. My dad receives a call telling him they'll adjust it and email him. Fine, but why not call me, the person whose card was charged? I'll be continuing to monitor my account to make sure it is in fact credited.
Bottom line, stay far away from this hotel. There were nothing but issues for 3 days.
*The response from the owner is pathetic. None of that "information" was relayed at check in. Did you not think that was important to let the customer know about the shady billing practices. And the...
Read moreThis is not directed at all towards the manager/owner since he was the only positive aspect of my overnight stay. Blood splatter on the toilet, walls, mirror and floor. As a previous healthcare professional for years, I know what dried bodily fluids are. Roaches in the tub and around the bathroom floor. I could not even use the toilet because it was constantly running all night. Lights were flickering all night as well. I wanted one on due to the bugs in the bathroom and the floor by the door. When I went to go into the lobby in the AM, an employee was on the phone loudly explaining how someone overdosed on pills and didn’t even look at me and my cane fumbling to get in. Then when I went to give her my key at the front desk, I didn’t even get eye contact. Too busy on her phone. While I did get a thank you I could tell she could have cared less. When I called corporate to get a refund and refused a credit, they said call the manager at the hotel. I was looking forward to that since he was so nice yet was told he wasn’t available. After explaining my situation again, the employee stated she’s the only one there. Not an I’m sorry, not a time when someone would be back. I did not expect a red carpet or room service but this was ridiculous. The lack of professionalism is what drew me to make this review. I see responses from the front desk staff on here on previous reviews and hope yall continue to follow the manager/owners character since he was the only one that assisted me with my bags as I am partially handicapped. He made sure I got into my room safely. He was amazing. I arrived very late due to an all day delay at the airport and was unable to get my ride across state...
Read moreThere were multiple things! We were told last night all that was left was one Queen size bed, room… ok we’ll take it! We drove over an hour from Asheville, where we were helping out my daughter who had been in the hurricane Helene… it was around 11:00pm when we checked. As soon as we opened the door to the room, the smell of mildew/must hit us right in the face. There was no type of air or fan on, it was such a bad stench. We turned on the air and the smell got worse. We tried the heat and it was even worse with a smell of gas, or something, so we had to keep our door open for a couple of hours while we tried to go to sleep. Then the bathroom was not very clean, and there dirty patches of some sort on the tub floor that was disgusting. The light switch in the bathroom was filthy. The mattress and pillows were so bad and lumpy. When I went down to the office this morning to complain about the room I was told well we can’t give you your money back because you stayed the whole night in that room. I said because we were told that was the last room that was available and the daytime manager proceeded to say well we always keep one room available just in case of emergency emergencies so how am I supposed to know this? I was given a discount but not enough to make me happy. I have multiple photos to share. I have been a Choice privilege member for several years now and this is the second hotel in a row through choice hotels that was unsatisfactory. This one was the worst yet, it’s making me Leary to choose choice hotels when...
