i totally understand the ‘you get what you pay for’ concept but when you’re paying $100+ a night, i would expect a better facility than what we were staying in. now where do i begin...
we stayed in this hotel during my brother’s college orientation. bringing our two small dogs along, we didn’t have much options for where we could stay. we were put into the pet friendly rooms right next to the office which was one of the main problems. the room was pretty clean at first glance but the more we paid attention, the more we could see it’s flaws. the carpet is old and discolored, looks like it’s been a while since it was last washed especially since walking barefoot blackened my feet and the wallpaper was pulling away from the walls. we were told to walk our dogs over to the other side of the hotel to a small patch of grass in front of other room’s windows right next to the busy highway with no fencing to keep the dogs safe from the speeding cars. we couldn’t have our dogs go on the side that our room is on because that’s where the owner’s dogs get let out at. the two tiny windows on the back wall both look out to the owner’s backyard so there’s very little privacy, you can hear them calling for their dogs when they take them out. the one curtain provided for one window wasn’t even long enough to cover the entire window which was very uncomfortable.
the rooms didn’t have microwaves, there’s one microwave in the lobby which closes at 11pm so if you have anything you want to heat up past then, you’re out of luck. the refrigerator wasn’t plugged in. the beds were hard, i woke up with so sore every morning. i sent my comforter out to be washed and they never brought back another one for me so i was freezing the last night there and ended up having to use a blanket they provided for the dogs (attached). the continental breakfast lasts for 2 hours and the staff hovers the entire time. it’s attached to the pool room so everything reeks of heavy lingering chemicals and chlorine. because of the stench, we didn’t bother using the pool.
the people working in the office made my mother feel uncomfortable for asking to have a pot of decaf coffee made since we don’t typically use the private coffee pots in the rooms as we don’t believe them to be cleaned properly (in any hotel). the ice machines and vending machines were really far from the room we were staying in but the amount they had were nice, though they could do with more snack machines and maybe healthier options to choose from. the internet kept going in and out, would only keep a connection for 5-10 minutes before losing it again for about 5 minutes.
the biggest problem we had was the BLACK MOLD growing on the outdated shower curtain. right after i showered, my mother and i went to tell the owners off the problem and she asked what we wanted her to do about it. obviously, clean it and maybe give us some sort of compensation discount. the woman proceeded to tell us that we should have told her when we first arrived, we told her the second day we were there which was also the day before we left, and insinuated that it wasn’t their fault only to tell us that they only clean the shower curtains ONCE A MONTH because it’s too tedious to clean, that people typically look for stuff that’s wrong with the room when they first get there - which reflects negatively on the hotel if it’s typical for their guests to be looking for problems with the room. a woman came and washed down the curtain, told the owners that she saw no mold, a man came to the room and told me to email him the pictures (attached), and then a woman came down and cleaned it with bleach - the rag did have black mold on it in the end. myself, nor my mother, bothered showering again until we got home.
all in all, we won’t be coming back here. if we had read the reviews and saw the alarming amount of negative ones, we would have gone elsewhere. the owners will probably say that there were no records of my stay but it’s under my mother’s name. in the end, being in this hotel just made me want to...
Read moreI arrived at the Cedar Inn at 10:30 A.M. and went inside to the front desk and was greeted warmly by the lady behind the counter. It had been snowing the previous night but inside the office was warm....made even warmer by the friendly lady who greeted me. I explained to her that I had been driving through the night, was thoroughly exhausted from the drive as the roads were not yet plowed which made navigating my automobile a harrowing experience that I'd soon rather forget, and could I possibly get a room at this time? As many are aware, usual check-in times vary, but rarely do hotels let rooms before 3 o'clock at the earliest. There was no hesitation in her reply, "sure, no problem" she replied. I was in a decent, clean, fresh smelling room within 7 minutes. I was grateful for the friendly person behind the counter as well as being in a room so quickly. The bathroom was super clean equipped with plush towels that felt brand new. The bathroom was dated early 60's tile but there was not a missing tile that I found even where the spacious tub met the tilework. The water had excellent pressure and the hot water was exactly that....HOT. After a soaking hot shower I pulled the bed linen back and crawled under the sheets and laid down on a super comfortable bed complete with a warm blanket with another on the clothes rack in case I needed more warmth. The pillow felt like my head was on a cloud soft yet firm. I fell fast asleep and woke when I had rested. There was no outside noise that disturbed my rest even when other guests had arrived and were walking past my room....it was that quiet. I enjoyed the sauna and the whirlpool hot tub, me being the only one there at the time. I left to attend some business that brought me to the area and when I had finished I went to a local restaurant and had an excellent meal. The name of the establishment doesn't come to mind but the meal was excellent. I returned to my room and enjoyed a great nights rest. I awoke the next morning feeling refreshed. I went to a local diner and had coffee and breakfast and returned to pack my belongings. An hour later I felt a migraine headache in its early stages begin to evolve. I get these infrequently but when I do they are debilitating to the point where I feel as if I were crippled and the pain is excruciating. The time was now 11:00 A.M. checkout time. I lay on the bed until noon, the whole time I was undisturbed by a knock or telephone call reminding me that it was past checkout. I dragged myself to the office to explain my condition. The person heard my complaints and when I asked for some aspirin, this kind young woman gave me some excedrin extra strength and gave me enough (4) so I had some for later. I went back to my room and did not leave until 3:30 P.M. The whole time was not disturbed. If I could give this special hotel 10 stars, that would be my rating. The people running this hotel are good people who, in my opinion, care about the guests and their stay over and above even a 5 star hotel gives its guests. Stay here you wont be...
Read moreIf I could assign this hotel a rating of negative zero, I would. I booked a room for a girls' night with my best friend, and while the lobby appeared clean and recently renovated, I soon discovered that the rooms were not up to the same standard.
Initially, we were placed in a room that was so unclean we had to request a switch. I will provide pictures to illustrate the conditions. The curtains failed to adequately cover the window, leaving us exposed to anyone passing by in the hallway. The floors, beds, and bathroom were in appalling condition. The floors had not been vacuumed, the beds were stained and littered with hair, and the bathroom looked as if it had never been cleaned.
Having previously worked as a housekeeper, I recognize that maintaining cleanliness is a challenging task. My best friend has traveled extensively and encountered much sketchier hotels that were cleaner than this one; it's simply unacceptable.
We approached the front desk to request a room change and showed the hostess the photos. They moved us to another room, which was located much farther from the lobby and pool area, so it hardly felt like an upgrade. This new room, supposedly remodeled, was even worse than the previous one. Not only was it just as filthy, but the hot water also didn’t work, and we discovered bugs on the bed.
When we reported this to the hostess, they attempted to downplay the situation by claiming the bugs were merely rocks or dirt. My response was to question why they were there in the first place. They offered to bring us fresh bedding and pillows, but then informed us they were busy helping other guests, leaving us to make our own beds.
I want to clarify that my frustration is directed at the ownership, not the hostess, who was the only staff member managing the hotel at that time.
Adding to our discomfort, the door lacked a deadbolt and a peephole, and the exterior light above the door was broken. As two young women, we felt unsafe and uneasy under these circumstances. I requested a discount or a refund but was told I would need to speak with the manager on Monday, which I fully intend to do.
I strongly advise against spending your money at this establishment. My friend and I had hoped for a fun evening to relax and reconnect, but instead, we were left with a negative experience and struggled to sleep due to the overall uncleanliness of the room. This hotel may have once been nice, but since the change in ownership, it appears to be treated merely as a source of income rather than a place of...
