La Catrina Cocina Mexicana is THE place to go for delicious Mexican food in the Upper Peninsula (and honestly anywhere)! I am absolutely in love with this place; the service is second to none, the prices are great and the food is superb! We will be getting food from here weekly, it's that good! I called in an order for take out on 4/19/2022.

I ordered the Pollo Chipotle and Camarones Al Mojo De Ajo. I had a few questions about the spiciness and the dishes, and what they would recommend between the Camarones Al Mojo De Ajo or the Steak Fajitas. I received absolutely perfect - and accurate - information from the worker.
My food was ready for me when I arrived - and I was impressed with how beautiful it is inside! Juan Carlos helped me pick up my order, and he is an incredibly talented and genuine worker. This is the perfect place for a date night, business lunch or dinner, or if you simply want to kick back and enjoy the best Mexican food the area (And honestly anywhere) has to offer! The workers are very professional and courteous. The restaurant is very clean.
Once home, the best part; the food! Both dishes were generous portions; and the attention to detail was unmatched. The chicken and shrimp were perfectly cooked - no dryness, excellent texture and perfect seasoning. The blend of delicious vegetables was a pleasant surprise; summer squash, herbs, fresh garlic, things I have not had before all came together in each dish to make them both unique and authentic.
The price was good for the two meals + the large bag of chips and delicious homemade salsa. They also have incredible daily deals and a lunch menu that we will be trying that goes until 3 PM!
Thank you so much La Catrina Cocina Mexicana! You made my day so much better and I cannot wait to come...
Read moreI've been waiting to try this place out. Honestly, it's nothing to write home about. First of all, let me say that this is a BEAUTIFUL, practically brand new restaurant. The Mexican decor is impeccable and very pleasing. Mexican tiles and vibrant colors. There are tall wooden booths and some long table/banquette seating which is prime space for family or group seating. I didn't get around the whole restaurant, so there may possibly be single tables, as well. Let me add that the tables in the booths are MOVABLE! That alone added an extra star to my review. So far, so good. The free chips and salsa are less than notable. The chips are restaurant commodity quality. The salsa is a sauce, not a pico de gallo type (chunky), and is served in little plastic cups - the kind your salad dressing comes in when you order out. It has a little kick to it but not much. We didn't ask for a refill. I ordered off the menu because I couldn't find a simple cheese enchilada, rice and beans. The enchilada tasted kind of sweet somehow. I couldn't put my finger on it. The cheese blend? The flour tortilla (obviously not homemade)? The red enchilada sauce was good. The refried beans had a nice amount of real cheese melted on top. As for the rice... I have never, in all my years and patronage of west coast Mexican restaurants, seen rice mixed with corn, green beans, etc. Not a win for me. The rice that I picked from around that stuff tasted good. Oh, well. My friend had lunch special #5 (beef burrito, beef taco & rice). She said the taco shell was the same as the chips, felt the same about the weird rice, and she thought TB down the street was better. Both meals arrived PIPING HOT on hot plates. I doubt if I'll return. Unless it's for drinks with friends. Neither of us partook of the tempting and varied margarita/bar drinks because we each had places to go after lunch. The restaurant opens at 11:00 am. We arrived at 11:30 and were seated immediately. It got noticeably crowded...
Read moreWe stopped here last night when we were passing through Marquette and needed some dinner. We ordered two appetizers, elote and cheese dip. First of all, our appetizers and entrees came out at the same time. The elote was just corn on the cob smothered in Mayo and tajin, no butter. Which like, nasty. “Elote” on the cob??? This is not how it should be made, it was seasoned wrong and it should be in a bowl. Terribly disappointing, we didn’t eat it. The cheese dip and our entrees were fine, not great but fine. Not a lot of flavor but good enough to eat. The queso was probably microwaved and out of a jar, but whatever.
Service was terrible. My husband ordered his tacos with flour tortillas instead of corn and asked for a side of rice. He got the corn tortillas and no rice. I had to ask 3 times for a side of salsa with my nachos before I got it. The biggest issue was that when we complained about the elote, which had 2 bites taken out of it, she apologized and asked for feedback but didn’t comp it. We shouldn’t have to ask, if you’re taking food that’s uneaten off a table and the guest is complaining about it, your response should be “I’m so sorry, let me go get that removed from your check.” The kicker was that when my husband said that elote should be in a bowl and not on the cob, she told us that the staff in the kitchen makes it that way for themselves. So whoever is cooking knows the right way to do it, but whoever is making decisions doesn’t have a clue. Very unfortunate.
Overall a terrible experience, I’m shocked that this place was so well rated. Can’t help but wonder if y’all bought...
