Beneath the weight of travel, my son and I approached the doorstep of a modest inn, its promise of rest a mere mirage on the horizon. We arrived with the sun high and harsh, 42 minutes shy of the appointed hour of three, only to be met with a cold rebuff from the sentinel at the desk—no shelter before the hour struck.
In search of solace, we wandered to a welcoming tavern nearby, where the drinks flowed with the ease of the kindred spirits who served them, a stark contrast to our initial reception. Quenched and momentarily heartened, we returned to our designated refuge as the clock permitted entry.
Upon our return, the door to our temporary abode resisted, its lock a reluctant beast that required a dance of jiggling and coaxing to tame—a ritual I later shared with a neighbor equally challenged by such cryptic mechanisms.
The room itself, clean to the eye, bore the humble marks of many a weary traveler before us. The sink, a defiant fixture, nearly claimed victory against functionality, but I managed to mend the broken stopper, restoring a semblance of order.
As the cloak of evening descended, the quiet was shattered by the vibrant strains of a southern blues rock band, their music spilling out from the biker bar across the narrow street. Their fervent symphony, though skilled, was an intrusion we hadn't invited. We fortified ourselves against the relentless serenade with the mechanical hum of air conditioning and the synthetic whispers of our phones, a feeble bulwark against the tide of sound.
At the witching hour of two, the bar's embrace relinquished its patrons, and the night air was rent asunder by the lamentations of steel steeds. The bikers, ghosts of the roadway, saddled their Harleys, engines thundering in the quietus. Among them, a lone figure, his machine's heart misfiring under the moon's cold scrutiny, unleashed the fury of his engine. It was a howl primal and raw, a cry flung at the indifferent heavens—a soul wrestling with the specters of squandered yesterdays. As he revved his beleaguered beast to its limits, it seemed a desperate sermon preached to the unheeding void, lamenting a life marred by wildness and spirits, doomed to echo the same sad, lonely journey come dawn.
Morning light revealed a more insidious betrayal; my skin a tapestry of red welts—the silent testament to the nocturnal assaults of bed bugs, those stealthy marauders of the dark.
Thus, our stay was a tapestry woven with threads of stark contrasts—brief encounters with hospitality shadowed by moments of indifference and the unexpected, each leaving an indelible mark upon the canvas of...
Read moreI would love to give this inn a 5 rating but I cannot.|The room was perfect for the overnight stay that I needed BUT I literally spend over 5 hours (more like 6) trying to contact the owner so that I could get in the room. She admitted that she missed my reservation, and she offered me the room gratis/no charge ... all good ... BUT, guess what was on my credit card bill ... yep the room charge...||Back story: |I stayed over Thanksgiving night. Because it was a holiday and last minute scheduling, I checked everything to make sure that there wouldn't be any problems. I scheduled and got a room confirmation ... printed the confirmation. Check-in was at 3p. The key was at the restaurant down the road: not problem bc I checked the restaurant website and there was NO indication that they were closed for the holiday. I planned to I would eat there also. Yes, odd to be open on Thanksgiving but the website showed no closure and the phone recording didn't note any closure.|- I arrived at 3:05 p... the restaurant was closed ...|- I walked around a bit and started emailing the inn at 3:35 p ... emailed the owner/inn continually ... the phone number for the in was disconnected ... I gave a description of myself in case she was about town ...|- went to a different town 20 min away at 6:35 p to eat bc everything was closed ... still emailing ... |- started looking for a hotel in that other town ... no, luck so off to another town about 60 min away ... |- I kept the inn owner in the loop via email and asked that my stay be cancelled bc I couldn't get into the room and I hadn't heard from her .... |- as I was pulling into the other town (found a hotel), I got a phone call from the owner of the inn: she apologized for missing my reservation (she hadn't seen it) and offered me the room for free bc of the mix up. I accepted and headed BACK to the inn ... got there about 9:30p ... so over 6 hours later! |- She kept my card on file for incidentals: no problem. |- Checked my credit card bill on Sunday ... the room was charged for the full amount on the 30th .... I was not even there on the 30th |- I emailed and texted the inn owner 2x at this point ... NO reply|I would love to say that it was a great place BUT the experience...
Read moreWe checked in a little after 3:00 on 07/03/24, the girl at the restaurant who checked us in wasn’t very friendly, not even a smile, as if she didn’t want to be there or was annoyed with us for being there and spoke above a whisper. I had to ask a couple of times to repeat herself. We unloaded our luggage in the room and took off. When we got back to the room about 8:00, the room still wasn’t very cool even after we set the a/c on 60•, resulting in a restless night because it was too warm in the room. ||There was no tv remote so we attempted to call the restaurant but the call would not go through, the phone didn’t work. So we walked to the restaurant and the rude guy said we can’t do anything about it until tomorrow. I told him we’re checking out tomorrow. He simply turned his back on me and walked off. No apologies, no smile, just walked away from me. This was the same guy who earlier, after we ate, saw me looking at the glass mugs on the shelf. I was trying to get close up to read the inscription in the mug. Out of no where, he says those are not for sale. I didn’t want to buy one, I was only trying to read the inscription. I got the impression he either didn’t want to be there or didn’t want me being there.||We check out this morning, 07/04/24 and I hope to speak to the manager and ask for a discount for the a/c not working properly, no tv remote and the phone not working. I’ll recommend hiring older people who remember what customer service is about. I doubt I get it and if I get the same vibe from the manager, I’ll be editing this post.||Service is nonexistent. If Housekeeping is only available from 11:00-3:00 I would except someone to be available to help us before and after those hours. I’ve stayed here several times before because of the great location, but this will be my last. Next visit I hope to stay in a cabin but certainly not one they own.||I do not recommend staying at this place or any of the cabins they own, you’re SOL if you need anything.||Not surprised I couldn’t post a review on their page, so I...
