It’s a little challenging to find something to eat on either Monday or Tuesday in Medicine Park, but Tu Familia was open and ready to fill me up. I was there on a recent Tuesday evening at about 7:30pm, a little late for typical dinner time in the US. Since I was traveling solo, I headed straight to the bar, where I can usually get much faster and better service than at a table.

As is typical in Tex-Mex places, there’s little chance of finding a good local craft brew on tap. Instead, you are faced with a few macro beers, and four or five Mexican imports. Although I don’t typically drink any of those, I followed the “When in Rome…” advice, and went with Dos Equis with lemon and salt on the rim. I must confess that this is an amazingly refreshing beverage on a warm summer’s evening, and it was served to perfection!

The obligatory chips and salsa were excellent, not too heavily fried, and they did their job to whet my appetite for the main course. I unwittingly threw a little bit of a curveball, though, when I went off-menu and asked for basic veggie fajitas, and to please hold the cheese and sour cream. I’m pretty sure the guy behind the bar had never been asked for that before, but he told the kitchen what to do, and they delivered with an enormous plate of what I am convinced was every vegetable they could find laying around.

It was delightful, and the four tortillas served with it meant I could gorge myself on goodness in a rather low-calorie kind of way.

Having hiked a couple of hours earlier in the day, I had stockpiled enough beer credits to have two more of those amazing Dos Equis con limón y sal, and when I finished, it was at least 9:30pm, a half hour after closing. Thankfully, they were in no hurry to kick out bar patrons, so I consumed my beverage in peace, paid my tab, and was on my way, knowing I would return next time I come to the Refuge and...

We ate here Saturday July 6 2024 around 1400hrs. They were able to seat us right away outside which was perfect because my 70 yr old mom was with my husband and I along with my mom’s small Bewer about 8lbs and her 82 yr old friend. It was nicer/cooler there than inside. They came in the side of the outside area and we all sat down. I ran to the restroom, came back and now someone else is sitting at the table and they are sitting at another outside area in the heat because we had a small pup!!! This is acceptable!! It was too hot for my elderly mother and her elderly friend, they all sat in the shade while I sat in the sun. We would not have eaten there if little Luna was not an obedient pup and wasn’t offered an “outside” area!!! Not an “outside, outside” area!!!

My meal had no flavor, the Queso birrias tacos. The sauce was more like tomato soup…. Seriously disappointing!!! I won’t get those again.

However the other three meals were really good, shredded beef burrito, with cheese sauce, and the Lawton Dinner. And I’ll say the cheese sauce, and salsas we got before we’re on point!! We will visit again, but you need to fix the air conditioner and have better consideration for...

The location is beautiful and the food is good. We have been back 3 times since there are new owners and the first time in the winter was great, the 2nd time in the winter …the service was not good, but the food was. We went back yesterday in June service was not great again and took forever. Drinks did not get filled up, nor were the chips or salsas (though they are good). The worst part was the inside restaurant read 82 and they sat us in the back with the room that is clear plastic walls with the sun beating in and the doors open to the outside with fans. I know it was even hotter in that box. We were sweating! Customers were sweating and beside us wiping their face off with napkins bc of sweat. My legs were sweating and sticking to the chairs. The staff was sweating. This can not be sanitary. We will not be coming back and we frequent Medicine Park all the time. It’s a shame to have your restaurant and employees sweating. It was not a 1 time thing bc there are other reviews with people being hot on different dates. Definitely needs to be fixed before it gets 100...
