I can't speak for other rooms in this establishment but we stayed in Room 126 and were very disappointed with several issues. I will speak to our biggest concern which was the shower.
When we turned on the spigot the pipes in the wall rattled so hard and loud it was like a locomotive coming through the wall. Not only was it difficult to take a shower at this level of noise- right next to your ear- but the water pressure was about half of normal (LOW) and so it took longer to complete the task. This was not only an issue for us, but I can not imagine how the room next to us would fair if someone in 126 were to take a late evening or very early morning shower. I phoned the girl at the front desk. She was familiar with the issue and gave me the pat response: I am so sorry for your inconvenience. I will have them look at it again, but it is a problem with HIGH water pressure. And that was it. Since this was probably a low/level/wage employee I decided to deal with it at check out.
Next morning the man at the desk asked me if we enjoyed our stay. I replied in as polite a tone I could manage- Do you really want to know? He didn't say a word and kept on completing the check out.
Why ask if you all you want to hear is, yes?
After a long pause I told him Room 126 never should have been rented. Nor was this fair to people who would stay in the next room. His coworker's response was they put it on their list and would take care of it. No reduction in the room charge, nor an apology.
The shower was a problem yet the way it was handled was worse.
Next visit, for $169, we will drive a few miles farther and stay at...
Read moreThis hotel has been completely remodeled recently. We stayed in the King Cottage Suite which was lovely, quiet, and very spacious. |There is afternoon sun on the pool and private deck area which allowed us to come back from Stanford treatment and relax in the sun and feel like we were on vacation. |The workout area is tiny but very efficient - Peloton, and a great weight machine and free laundry (like if you just want to dry your bathing suits). ||The breakfast is incredible - definitely the best free breakfast I have had in all my hotel stays, including Hawaii. Premade spinach frittatas, bacon, omelettes, pastries, oatmeal, fresh fruit cups, etc etc. It actually reminded me of the concierge level at a Thompson hotel. They have free cappuccino's all day long (with Equator coffee), and little niceties - like a candy bowl, dairy free milk and outstanding LATHER skin care products.||The housekeeping is lovely, the front desk is small but efficient and the hang out areas around the small property are well set up. Safe free parking. ||Some of the people mentioned hearing people snoring at night, so in the other rooms that might be an issue with shared walls, but in our room the fan in the bathroom ran constantly and the Suite cottage has no shared walls. You can hear the train in the morning, but it is faint and also...
Read moreWe’ve stayed at hotels all over the world, including some of the fanciest. To give you an idea… the last couple times we visited the Palo Alto area, we stayed at the Rosewood and Stanford Court. This time, we needed to be close to Menlo College and decided to take a chance on The Cottages, a small boutique hotel right across the street.||We absolutely LOVED our stay at The Cottages. Here’s why:|- The hotel, apparently very recently renovated and redesigned, is just beautiful. Quiet luxury at its finest. Our room had very high-end furnishings — even the light fixtures had a designer look and feel. The landscaping and fire pit were also just lovely.|- Great beds and bedding. Loved our bathroom, too, which had a rain shower. |- We stayed five days and had laundry to do. High end machines that don’t destroy your clothes were free for guests to use. Such a thoughtful touch!|- We loved our private patio, which had chairs, a small table and strong WiFi. We used it quite a lot for remote work. |- The staff — from the front desk to the maids — were Old World classy. More genteel than staff at 5-star hotels...
