FEY Restaurant:An outstanding Sichuan restaurant in Bay Area

This restaurant has been Fei Fei's go-to spot for over 20 years. Even after a fire and reconstruction, it's still super popular 🔥. Perfect for a weekend brunch, and it offers international flavors! #Foodie #BayArea #RestaurantRecommendation #HiddenGem #BayAreaEats

I love this place! It’s great to get traditional Chinese food. We also order their takeout occasionally and that’s been great too. Some of my favorites dishes include their steamed fish, stir fry eggplant, and spicy beef tendon . I also like their salt and pepper tofu, yang zhou fried rice, grilled cumin lamb skewers, egg drop soup. My boyfriend likes their hong shao rou, and the The service is good. I don’t feel like we ever wait too long to order or get the bill. The wait staff speaks both English and Chinese so if you prefer speaking in Chinese there’s always that option. The interior is nice. It feels like a traditional fancy Chinese restaurant. They have pretty light fixtures and sculptures on the wall. We usually sit in one of the booths, but they also have family-style seating in the back (big round tables with a lazy Susan). Parking: The parking lot’s pretty small in the back but we usually manage to find a spot. If not, Menlo Park downtown has a lot of free parking lots you can park at and then walk over

Customer service: First, we were not greeted or even glanced a look at the entrance by the owner sitting at the entrance desk. Secondly, while waiting for us to decide our orders, the owner was impatient, pacing back and forth, and while taking our orders he was rude and condensing. And yet, when caucasian customers entered, he was kind and helpful. The complete opposite when servicing us. We greeted him at the entrance and he did not respond. When a caucasian customer entered, he immediately greeted them and offered them his services. We thanked him when taking our orders, in which, he ignored. When other customers entered, he thanked them. To give background, we are Taiwanese-Americans. Food: Green onion pancake - Good, crispy, and authentic Sweet Soy Milk - Normal, good, nothing special Beijing Style Tofu Pudding - my dad in the hospital enjoyed it and he normally doesnt have much of an appetite Chinese Donut - not authentic, not crispy, not good Salty Rice Ball - my Taiwanese born and raised mom said not authentic and not good. I think it was okay, too salty, but cant say i would order it again Lastly, the most disappointing, the Steamed Pork Buns (showed in the picture): Cold, no soup in wrapper, shriveled, not good, not authentic. We had taken it to go for my dad in Stanford Hospital to eat, and when we opened it up at the hospital, about 15 minutes after receiving it, it was rock cold. To compare, the tofu pudding was still hot and recieved and opened at the same time. We considered ordering again from this restuarant whenever my dad craved Chinese/Taiwanese food given how close this restaurant is to the hospital. We wouldve ordered again even with the owner's rude attitude for my dad. However, given that even many of the food is not authentic or good, and on top of that the rudeness of the owner, we have decided to toss the take-away menu and never go back again. We were polite and not disruptive. Don't know if it matters to mention but we did tip. But even when leaving the restuarant after we said thank you, the owner still did not respond, and we were ignored. He seemed nice to the other customers and some of the food is good but overall for us, this is not an establishment that we would like to support again.

This place is amazing!! They're dishes are so rich of flavors, good spices, everything is perfectly cooked, simply delicious! Kind of pricey, but the food is too good. I recommend the Chounshing Chicken (I usually get the boneless, but both are equally good!), I get steamed white rice, also Boiled Fish, and Boiled Beef, and the cold noodles are my favorite dish, its so. Good. Cold noodles are basically pretty spicy, rich, noodles, that are cold. Simple, yet phenomenal. They're tea is also good, and I love how they give out water with ice, most places don't. The service is pretty good too. I come here with friends, and sometimes alone, regardless, this Chinese restaurant is a very nice, sheek setting. When you walk in, one of the first things you see, is a big, thin water tank with about a dozen beautiful, strange looking orange fish, really cool, bathrooms are always clean as well. A solid 5 stars.

There was a fingernail in my Dan Dan noodles. This is absolutely unacceptable. I felt so disgusted and could not eat the rest of the food I had ordered. I used to love this place but having someone’s fingernail in your mouth is an awful feeling. I pulled the fingernail out of my mouth and it was stained orange from the noodle sauce. I ordered on Uber and was refused a refund. Only when I pursued this matter further they said it would be under investigation. If Fey does not issue a refund I will be extremely disappointed in both the restaurant and the platform for upholding such a poor level of basic food hygiene.
