My family and I have come to this restaurant so many times. It’s been probably 5-10 years! The owner and staff used to be very nice and accommodating. The food itself is great! This last time I went there and this will be the last time I step foot in that restaurant was the most horrible experience. The owner herself was absolutely rude. Me, my mom and my grandma (mind you it was only us 3) ordered few items food, one dish was very very spicy and we were not a fond of. We asked them if we can choose another dish (we only had one bite). We originally had the Mongolian beef and wanted to switch it out for general tao chicken. They gave a bit push back but allowed it. When we got the check, it seemed they did not correct the item and put Mongolian beef on the receipt. I asked them to please change the receipt to reflect the correct dish. The owner was furious. She said some awful things and she went back to her desk to print the correct one out. They brought out the second check and immediately didn’t let us see the 1st check and put the second check down and said “sign here!!” We were not going to sign anything before looking at the check. When we looked at the second check the total cost increased !!! HOW?!? Well, They added a service charge of 18% which was not originally on the 1st check. They were trying to have us sign that! Scammers!! We were furious that they thought this was acceptable. The owner rudely, stated that there is a charged fee for changing the dish. I had told her, I would’ve understood that charge if it was a party of 5 or more. Not just the 3 of us. They did not tell us any of this information about additional charges. She then stated “no you HAVE to give a tip”. When I tell you, my family and I were FURIOUS!! WOW!! We said “excuse me?!” She went on being rude until we told her we were not leaving without the correct check. She went back to her desk and made us wait and sit for almost 10 minutes!! My grandma said “hello, we need to get going” which then she printed it out and threw it on the table. We will never be back there again!! Absolute horrible experience and the owner didn’t have a care...
Read moreSolid Schezuan food. Almost everything is spicy so make sure that you come here with people who love spicy food and lots of schezuan chili peppers and chili oil! 3.5/5 stars because the service is not the best. The portions are a good size and it is reasonably priced. The setting is very fancy and I've seen people host some baby showers and parties in the back!
I've had the hot pot once which was pretty good (I recommend the spicy broth!) but we usually order dishes off the menu and share family style. Dishes can be hit or miss but here are some thoughts on what to order and what to skip:
BEST dishes: Hot & Sour Soup, Twice Cooked Pork, Twice Cooked Tofu, Chongqing boiled fish, Chongqing Spicy Diced Chicken, Dry-Cooked String Bean
OK dishes: Mongolian Beef, Kung Pao Chicken, Pork Dumplings, Garlic Chicken (a good dish for people who don't want to eat spicy food)
Underwhelming dishes: Beijing Family Style Eggplant, Beijing Bean Sauce Noodles, Cold Noodles
There is a small parking lot in the back but make sure you park in a spot where other people will not come in behind you and block your car. If this is full, you can find some parking by making a right on Glenwood and then a left on "Garwood Way". You'll have to park on the street there and walk over (3-5 min walk next to...
Read moreVery nice decorations. Good menu. Nice people. One would like to enjoy the food far more. The menu is scattered over many chinese regions, and I can't tell where the chef is from. The szechuan dishes don't have the bright flavors of that region, and very few peppercorns. In my last visit, the wontons fell apart, very poortly made. The tastes are never as vibrant and precise as this kind of food should be. There are a number of better chinese restaurants, such as Crouching Tiger in RWC, Chef Zhao in Palo Alto ( or the other Zhao in Mt View, bother are better ), or Da Sichuan in PA or the Burmese restaurants in Palo Alto. It is true that for specifically Menlo Park this is the most plausible Chinese restaurant, but the others I mention are only an extra 5 minute drive, or closer, depending on where you are. I am always so disappointed because the restaurant looks and feels good - why can't they upgrade the food a little? This place has a lot of native chinese visitors and feels very chinese, but the food is simply short...
