Upon entry to this 3rd floor non-smoking room, there was an intense and unpleasant mold-like odor, even though the flooring is laminate, and the only fabrics were of draperies and bedding materials. We got used to the smell but got nasal congestion through the night, which meant a poor quality of sleep.|The finishes and furnishings in the room have obviously been updated, but were mixed and matched to older finishes. The sink counter had a granite top from an older renovation, but was badly stained and blackened at the rim. |This is an older 3 story motel building with walkways on the outside. The single elevator is very noisy, making us wonder if it was safe to ride. The vintage rooms are small, and the bathroom is especially small, where opening the door into the bathroom swings just an inch from the edge of the toilet bowl. One of the two beds was situated only about a foot from the side wall, which made it a challenge to get in and out of the bed.|The single large front window has only blackout drapes, and no sheer liner or blinds, meaning you’re fully exposed with the drapes open, or in full darkness when closed. The lighting in the room was grim, with cold white LED bulbs. Some bulbs were burned out in the fixtures over the headboards. The table lamp on the dresser was old and the base finish of it was very rusty. |Though a single cup coffee maker is in the room, the tap water taste and smell is terrible here, so I would suggest bringing your own bottled water if you want to use it.|The only nice amenities are that the room has a college size refrigerator and a safe for your valuables. The toilet and tub were clean. The mattresses were very firm, but decent. The through front wall AC unit worked well to lower the temperature, but the room air remained very moist. The motel location is convenient to the Interstate exit and the parking areas are very well lit. The overnight room fee was reasonable. Check-in and check-out was quick, but their credit card reader would not work for my card, and it would not accept Apple Pay as an alternative. Fortunately we had another credit card. If we didn’t, we would have had to pay in cash only.|I do not intend to ever stay at this...
Read moreThis is a basic hotel. It doesn't offer any extras, but what it does offer is excellent! We stayed there to attend a nearby graduation and were so grateful to have found this hotel! It's a short drive away from the Metro North station and only one stop away from New Haven! A bit farther from NYC but very doable, especially if you're only planning to see Manhattan (we even ran into a friend from Upper Manhattan who had come to a medical appointment in Milford at the train station).
When we arrived, the person working at the front desk held the door open to the lobby for us. It was such a kind, unexpected gesture –– something you usually only get at fancy hotels. That set the tone for the hospitality we received while staying 2 nights. The hotel offers coffee every morning in the lobby, and it was unexpectedly delicious. The room was clean, and almost everything worked well. We noticed there was no way to plug the tub to take a bath. Luckily, our toddler was OK with showers. Other than that, the TV had cable (including Disney for watching Bluey); the water pressure and water temperature both worked well; sheets were clean, etc. There wasn't an iron in the room, and I'm not sure if you could ask for one from the lobby, so ask ahead if you know you'll need one.
The rooms don't have refrigerators or microwaves, and there are no stores or restaurants within walking distance (though we didn't look too hard), but it's possible to order in through something like Door Dash or Uber Eats (the hotel even had an app it recommended; sorry I can't remember the name). We brought our own toiletries, and I can't remember if they give you conditioner or just shampoo. The wooden hangers in the closet were great for hanging our formal clothes, and the blackout curtains blocked out all the light, which made it possible for us to sleep in the day after the graduation party.
I'm grateful for all the positive Google Reviews that led us to the Red Roof Inn Milford–New Haven and wanted to add my voice...
Read moreAfter driving 3 days I was excited about finding a place to take hot shower and lay my head down. I booked through PriceLine and it said I would have mini fridge and micowave and that they would require CC for incidentials. I arrived and while waiting to check-in a lady was saying they called police on her so I could go next. She didn't have any of the amenties and wanted early check in, desk clerk didn't like her attitude and called police. Actually she just wanted what was promised and to pay the quoted amount for early check in, Upon my check in I was told there was a deposit of $50 and would be refunded 7-10 days. PriceLine didn't have that information. I got to room and 1 of the 2 beds were not even made up, blankets and pillows thrown in corner. No fridge or microwave. Had to hole the drain cap open with a knife so the tub would drain. No wash rags only 2 towels. No ironing board or iron, and my holder for iron is in top of corner by window. No toiletries at all. I phone desk clerk to ask him make note on my registeration about beds and amenties and he said he would give me different room. I explained I had driven a long ways and wanted hot shower and wasn't sleeping on both but I wanted management aware of inconsistences. He kept arguing with me and said he wouldn't give me any credits or discounts (I didn't even ask for one). I hung up on him and he continued to call my room for next 45 minutes trying to change my room. I attempted to use blow dryer and could not plug in because the plug didn't fit into the outlet. It had 2 small slots instead of normal 1 small and 1 larger. So why they even had one in the room I don't know. I probably will never stay at a...
