This is an updated review for this hotel, as we stayed here again in January of 2018.
Having had a pleasant experience a year earlier, we decided to to return again during our annual trip to Florida. Unfortunately, 2nd time wasn't a charm and we won't return again.
Our latest visit found the bed extremely uncomfortable, with my wife declaring it was the most uncomfortable sleep ever. I'd suggest that the mattress was well beyond its life expectancy, with staff having added bed toppers in a failed attempt to get more time out of it. Our particular room had two queen beds and both were equally bad.
Apart from that, I'm guessing that management had changed since our prior visit, because every one of the staff we encountered seemed to really act like they wanted to be somewhere other than working here. From check-in to the breakfast staff (apparently they had a big crowd first thing that morning and didn't care to top up the food offerings by the time we arrived for breakfast, just after 9:00 AM). Even after we had left, I called the reception a couple days later to get a copy of the invoice emailed to me and the fellow I spoke with sounded like I had disturbed him from a nap.
All in all, a poor experience and something we, as frequent travelers, don't have to deal with in the future. There are plenty of other choices along the road, but this one won't have a chance to be one of those again.
For reference, here's my original review from the year earlier: While heading south to Florida for our winter vacation, our first stop was in Erie, Pennsylvania. After a couple of searches on Google Maps for places to grab some food and a place to spend the night, this Fairfield Inn presented itself. We had only 'discovered' the Fairfield brand a couple of years ago, while on another trip south and were impressed immediately. Up to then, we had generally sought out a Hampton Inn for overnight stays, but that first Fairfield experience led us to a new possibility when on the road and this location accommodated us well. The king room was comfortable, the bathroom clean and we took advantage of the in-room microwave and fridge. Access to the Interstate was easy and the part of town it's located in was much more appealing than the old section that we had driven through :-/ The included breakfast was good and the staff freindly and helpful. There is also an indoor pool, but we didn't go swimming while there. All in all, we would stay here again and would...
Read moreI called ahead and talked to one of the male hotel desk employees. We have had a tough year (as a lot of people have had) and this was our one chance to get away as a family (stayed 4 nights). My daughter and wife really wanted to be able to go swimming so I called to confirm the pool was in service and warm, etc. The person that I spoke with indicated it was VERY warm and in service.
The first night, my daughter could barely get in and wade around. She was shivering. There was one other woman there who said, “yeah, way too cold for me”. So I went to the desk the next morning and asked for the manager. She was apologetic but as we started to discuss it the guy that takes care of the pool ducked in and started to “educate me” (in a condescending way) about water vs air temperatures and what the effect is coming out of the water when the air temp was colder. I had to explain a couple times that I was well aware of that effect (and so is anyone who has ever gone swimming before) but that the water itself was very cold and the air temp was also cold for any sort of enjoyable swimming experience.
After my education, I was told the temps would be increased but that night the temp was only marginally warmer and my daughter (who swims all the time at various places) still couldn’t do more than wade around while shivering. It was the same each night. Never got better.
The manager indicated she would follow up on educating employees in how to describe the pool to people calling and asking about it. As of now, the way that question should be answered as: please do not waste your $650 here if you really want to have a viable / enjoyable option for swimming.
The manager asked for my name and room # but never followed up with me to ask if it was any better as well. I will be adding this same info as a review for the hotel elsewhere.
Very disappointing experience. Please do NOT stay here if you want to...
Read moreStAFF worked hard. Olivia did superb job fixing issues caused by others prior to her shift. Unfortunately those issues were plenty. Walls and ceilings were thin Sounds traveled thru and I had misfortune of staying same night a young adult basketball team did. Room above kept jumping or bouncing around till 12:30. Complained then and later at 1. 1:30 is when sounds ceased. On top of this I reserved a handicapped room with roll in shower WITH TWO beds for myself and my parents. one parent is non- ambulatory in wheelchair. Received a "upgraded" room with ONE king bed and a handicapped bathtub. Not an upgrade in the least for people in our situation . As for a second bed they had to borrow roll away bed that wasn't up to snuff. I have slept in multiple roll aways in many years of travel. This won worst in show. The mattress was so thin you could feel every spring in frame. Not to mention two prominent bars where the bed folds up on. I have a condition that requires ample sleep between 7-9 hours lest bad things happen. Due to noise and inferior bedding provided, this process wasn't able to occur. This caused me to sleep on floor without frame on an uneven mattress (fold points are thinner). Asked for a different bed options and got denied. Solution offered was towels to place under mattress. This was slightly better but still not acceptable even to a seasoned camper. Suggest going down to any sporting goods store in immediate area and buy a proper Therma-rest. Perhaps I got 5.5 hours. Will have to sleep more later in...
