This pains me to write because the man running this place was just a nice guy. The exact type of person you want running your hotel. Unfortunately the room I was in was one of the worst I’ve ever stayed in. I’m a budget traveler so I’m used to 2-3 star hotels. I stay in about 20-30 hotels per year in 20-30 different cities. From the reviews and the pictures everything seems all good. First thing I noticed when we pulled in was that it was 95 degrees and no one was in the pool. I saw clothes hanging from the railing and I assumed they were wet pool clothes. Then I looked closer and it looked like aluminum foil over two windows and realized this is a hotel but also people live here long term. Then I looked into the pool and realized why no one was swimming here. It was just dirty. Check in went well. Really nice guy checked me in. On the way to the room I noticed two more rooms that had decorations and plants in the windows and a camera in the window facing the stairs. That door looked like some had tried to kick it in at some point. The room surfaces were clean. I wipe everything down myself just to be sure and the room was really cleaned well. The room itself was just falling apart. I used the toilet and when I went to flush the handle came off easily. So I had to take the top of the tank off to flush the rest of the time. The manager offered to come up and fix it but I said no. Because I’d only be there one night and because of covid. There was mold all over the inside of the shower curtain, dead bugs in every light cover and the baseboards were coming off the walls. There was an old SUV in the parking lot jacked up with no hood or tires., There was some kind of stain on my pillow case also. I looked up and noticed the smoke alarm battery door was open and there was no battery. I went downstairs to get a battery and put one in myself. I tested the alarm and it worked fine. There wasn’t any noise at night really other than the little dog in the room next door yapping away. They do have a big spotlight that lights up the parking lot for safety. No breakfast or lobby access. I checked in through a glass window with a mail slot on one side. Like I said earlier the people running the hotel were wonderful. It’s the actual hotel itself that needs a lot of love. It’s old and beat up. Even the stairs leading up to the second floor by the truck sitting on tires in the parking lot were sketchy. They all aren’t the same height so be careful coming down. This place could be such a nice place if someone could just invest some money and fix up the dated rooms and keep...
Read moreLast night's horror of a motel room at the Knights Inn, Mineral Wells, TX:
Mosquito infestation in the room Got bit 6 times, followed by anaphylactic reaction (throat closing up) Swatting said mosquitoes until midnight, had to sleep under the covers to not get bit Wet, dirty carpet Socks ruined from stepping on said wet, dirty carpet and one of the swatted mosquitoes Dirty, sticky comforter Dingy smell Air conditioning was cool but the room stayed damp Hair dryer not working Unsympathetic manager did not offer a refund (much less a mosquito net) despite my asking nicely for a refund given reason of my allergic reaction to the mosquitoes. It's ironic that this place is next to the Health Department.
These rooms go for 80$+ per night, the plus being this weekend's rate hike up to $200/night. Never Again. I'll camp out in my truck before I give this establishment any...
Read moreFirst, don't book this hotel through Hotwire. I said 3 people were staying and they reserved a room with 1 bed! As for the room, it initially looked clean but pulling back the covers on the bed revealed an old blood or coffee strain... I'm hoping coffee... some other issues, the blinds don't fully close so you get outside lights all night. The bathroom light switch is outside the bathroom which means trying to sleep when someone has to use the restroom will give a bright awakening. The bed felt like a rock and they said free HBO but I sure couldn't find that channel when trying to watch the TV. If you are desperate for a nights sleep then this hotel is perfect otherwise look elsewhere if you need to stay in...
