Overall great experience at this resort. It is directly across the street from the Gorgeous white sand beaches. Check in was a quick and easy process. The front desk is not open around the clock like a hotel. They are basically there through the day only and you're on your own afterwards. It's basically like staying in an apartment. The inside of the resort in the "common area" were very dated and even smelled a little bad. You are given arm bands to wear Everywhere...don't lose or break them...they're $10 a piece if not retuned when you check out. Parking was free and it was nice that they had an actual parking garage. Our room was a one bedroom with a kitchenette. When you enter the room it was barely wide enough for one person to walk through the narrow kitchen area before getting to the bedroom. The bedroom was spacious enough for two. The bathroom was very small but surprisingly had a large, nice, walk in shower. Our room had a sliding glass door out to the balcony which had a small table and two comfortable chairs. The railing around the balcony was glass so you could sit and still see out. The room was at the back side of the property which overlooked the tennis courts (which are on top of the parking garage) but was also overlooking 3 large pool areas from the other resort right beside us. Upon booking, it showed that our room overlooked the water...if you looked hard you could see a small part of the bay in the distance. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable and the bathroom looked like it had recently been updated. Furnishings were very dated but linens and towels were all fresh and clean. I highly recommend you bring your own pillows (but that's everywhere). There is a tiny closet and no countertop space in the bathroom. There was no dresser or storage/countertop areas at all. This was the major downside for me. I literally had to turn part of the kitchen countertops into an area to put clothes. The kitchen is fully equipped with all the necessary dishes, pots & pans & appliances you would need. There is an ok pool..not really nice but ok, and a decent restaurant but the best feature was a crosswalk bridge directly from the pool area to the beach. When we went to the beach there were beach chairs with umbrellas already set up. Apparently when you book your room you have to add the beach chairs & umbrellas with your room or pay $35 a day for them. Luckily they were included in with our room. Where they are is a marked off, private area of the beach that only people from the resort can go...and they go through checking routinely! This made it super nice! If you want chairs on the 1st row right up by the water...you better get there Early...like 7am early...no joke. There is even a private tiki bar that opens at 10am so u can walk up in ur swimsuit without having to leave the beach to get a drink. They have an outside shower area where you can rinse off at all areas where you leave the beach. This was an excellent location. 5 stars for location, private beach area with cross walk and tiki bar. 3 stars for dated lobby a pool area. Main takeaway from our stay here: nice place to stay for the $ and would stay again. We were only in the room to shower, change and sleep. If you're planning on spending much time relaxing by the pool and in your room..you might want to check out...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I travel very often (Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cruises..etc) so we have high standards for where we stay. This was our very first time vacationing in Florida and after doing loads of research for best in quality and price we chose to stay at Surfside Resort. Keep in mind that this is not necessarily a hotel as each room is owned by different people who have their own amenities, services, and rules. We chose to stay in room 1209 (12th floor facing the East for phenomenal sunrises). This room (condo/suite) is owned by a man named Kosta. Choosing your room can make or break your vacation and I must say that this room was perfect and here's why:The suite consists of 2 bedrooms each with a private balcony entrance and one with a walk-in closet. There are 2 full bathrooms, one with a Samsung washer and dryer! The living room has a very nice LG Smart TV with included entertainment (Netflix, a gaming system, and others). Included were 2 decks of playing cards, puzzles, beach toys, a beach ball, tennis balls and racquets, a basketball, vollyball, bubbles, and noodle floats. Both bathrooms were socked with Selsum Blue Shampoo and Dial body wash as well as lots of super soft towels for all of your needs. There was supposed to be laundry detergent pods, but our bag was empty upon arrival and that was a bummer for me. The kitchen has all dishes and cutlery needed with the exception of grilling tools, which we could have used as we grilled out for dinner. (bring your own charcoal). There is a Keurig Coffee maker and a variety of coffee and tea is provided! I assume it gets restocked each time, but I am not sure as some were close to empty upon our arrival. All of the appliances, kitchen and bathrooms alike, were chic and modern. The sofa was soft and comfortable and one big factor for me was how much better the patio furniture is than any other condo/suite. Having coffee each morning and watching the sunrise on that patio furniture filled my heart with joy and madeall the difference. Also included are cleaning supplies, brooms, vacuum, disinfectant, soap, trash bags, extra pillows, and fans. The room overlooks the pool area and the ocean with no obstructions! To enter the room or the private beach, you must have an access code! Admittedly, I loved this feature about the resort. The room, since privately owned, does not have daily housekeeping, but that was not an issue at all due to being supplied with everything needed to keep a tidy and comfortable space. If you need ice for a cooler, go to the Lobby. its 25 cents for a bucket full. The pool is kept warm and the 2 hottubs are kept hot! There is a nice bathhouse with restrooms, showers, and a sauna. The water is crystal clear and clean and the sand is powder soft and white!!!!! ♡This particular room comes with 2 beach chairs and a shade umbrella included in the cost for the room. Not every room offers this amenity which otherwise costs $40 or more each day!I had one downfall to this vacation and location... The noise. =( Mirimar Beach is in the direct flight path of military planes, helicopters, and jets which constantly, and I mean constantly, fly overhead. It's annoying and gave me anxiety, but nothing can be done about that. You gotta take the good with the bad.Other than that, this vacation was perfect. I hope this review helps...
Read moreMy family has visited the Surfside resort in Destin Florida about once each year since 1990 and enjoyed each visit. Great views, nice heated pool and hot tubs, and a walk way to the beach (over a busy road way) However, our visit Feb 13-16, 2021 caused me to fear for our health and left me very frustrated.||We stayed in room 502 Feb. 13-16, 2021 and always wore masks when outside our condo except on the beach when there were few people. The room was nice but the view was a bit diminished by power lines. Our main issue was with the building contractors and staff. ||To start, when I was unloading after we arrived, a security guard without a mask came to my car door. In a rude manner he demanded to know why I was there. I had a parking pass and explained I was taking luggage to my condo. He told me I could not park where I was but parking is tight at the resort due to construction. I explained I parked by the dumpster so I did not block other cars and to leave room for others closer to the door. He said gruffly “okay, you have 2 minutes to unload and move your car” I went as fast as I could and took about 20 min.||Also, there is a sign on the temporary entrance most people use stating clearly that “masks required of all vendors and delivery personnel”. None of the contractors coming in and out of the same entrance most convenient for us to use (due to construction) wore masks. I pointed this out to Scott at the front desk explaining that contractors are not obeying the sign. He said “there is no sign like that” and that they can’t require contractors to wear masks. He said the Surfside HOA decided they will not require people in the building’s public spaces to wear masks. Contractors without masks cause me to fear for my families health and we did our best to avoid them. ||Finally, the beach bar is completely disgusting. If you use the walk way over the road you must pass through the bar to reach the beach. There are lots of smokers there and no one wears a mask. We held our breath as we passed through and normally went way out of our way to use the temporary entrance (contractors and employees with no masks) walk down an alley and across a busy road to reach the beach. It is as if COVID 19 does not exist as far as Surfside HOA, Surfside employees and contractors are concerned.||In summary, the 502 unit is nice with the view reduced a bit by the power lines. The no masking attitude is very upsetting to my wife and I . As I mentioned, we have stayed at the Surfside almost every year since 1990. Due to this experience we will not return any time soon; perhaps never again. We don’t mind paying top dollar at the beach for beach front view. However, we will not stay at a resort where the HOA, employees, and contractors put our lives at risk and employees/ contractors are repeatedly rude, unresponsive, and uncaring. I strongly advise anyone that takes COVID-19 seriously and cares about good service to stay far away from the Surfside. LOTS of other properties near by to...
